ITP V.011 SOCIAL NETWORKING: YOU TUBE AND NMPA TEAM UP TO GIVE MUSICIANS ROYALTIES

YOU TUBE AND NMPA TEAM UP TO GIVE MUSICIANS ROYALTIES.
FROM CBS.COM: (CBS/What's Trending) - Musicians across the interwebs can rejoice! A new deal between YouTube and the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and its subsidiary Harry Fox Agency (HFA) is allowing music publishers to receive royalties from music posted on YouTube, including original music videos and content created by fans. The agreement also stipulates that publishers and songwriters can take in ad revenue played alongside all of these videos, which means the countless photo collages set to the hottest ballad or pop anthem of the year will now benefit the song's creator.
According to YouTube, copyright holders who use the site's audio and video matching tool, Content ID, are able to double their potential ad revenue. Content ID is used to determine which tunes are owned by a specific artists, and will give content creators choices about how they're material is shown on the site.
Here's how it works.

It was stated on YouTube's blog that the company has had agreements with all four major record label and a number of independent labels for quite some time.
The post said:
While this deal is only with the publishers, it will also benefit recording artists and record labels. It's been YouTube's policy to run ads alongside videos with commercial music only when the copyright holders for both the sound recording and the composition have authorized YouTube to do so...now that we are broadening our coverage with more publishers, we'll be able to create more revenue streams for all of them.
What are your favorite user-created YouTube videos played to your favorite songs?
