ITP V.012: "DIME TIME": DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT (PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN) TRIBUTE

          GETCHA PULL!!!!
It's ITP V.012's annual tribute to PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT, "DIME TIME".
In case you've been hiding underneath a rock, DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT was the legendary, shredding guitarist of Arlington, Texas Southern thrash metal Gods PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN.
DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT was tragically murdered by a mentally deranged gun man (NATHAN GALE), one minute into DAMAGEPLAN's set at the ALROSA VILLA, 12/8/2004, Columbus, Ohio.
Today, 12/8, is a tragic and controversial date in  music history: Today would have been JIM MORISSON's (vocalist-THE DOORS) birthday, and IS CORY TAYLOR's (vocalist-SLIPKNOT) birthday.
December 7th marks the anniversary of PEARL HARBOR.
However, 12/8/1980 and 2004 tragically marks the anniversary of both JOHN LENNON (BEATLES) and DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT's (PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN's) murders at the hands of psychopaths.

Today, we at ITP V.012 celebrate MUSIC and METAL and the indelible influence of both JOHN LENNON and DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT (PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN's guitarist).
PANTERA disbanded in 2003.

Vinnie and Darrell Abbott activated DAMAGEPLAN in 2003 unleashing the bands debut "New Found Power" in 2004. The tragic murder of DAMAGEPLAN  and former PANTERA guitarist DARRELL LANCE "DIMEBAG" ABBOTT forced DAMAGEPLAN to disband.

PHIL ANSELMO has recovered from heroin addiction and undergone back surgery last decade.
PHIL ANSELMO is expected to release a solo effort entitled "Walk Through Exits Only" in early 2013.
Former PANTERA bassist REX BROWN left DOWN a few years ago for sobriety and new projects.

How many of you attended perhaps PANTERA's last show in NEW YORK, 3/13/2001, Mid Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie, NY? I took a paid personal day off from work, and me and a friend, and the whole Hudson Valley music scene went and moshed out with PANTERA, MORBID ANGEL and SOULFLY.
Also, the 1995 PANTERA shows at the Mid Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie, New York 3/7/1995 were awesome. Awesome shows, good times, and we miss Darrell Lance "Dimebag" Abbott very mutch. R.I.P. DIME.

FROM OTEP:
Today is the death day of John Lennon & Dimebag but also the birthday of Jim Morrison & Corey Taylor. Long live ART. ♥ OTEP

The producer of the my last 3 albums, Ulrich Wild, also worked with PANTERA & he told me a story about the time Dime was at a music store signing autographs when he overheard a father telling his son they didn't have enough money for a guitar. After the crowd dispersed, & the story was almost empty, Dime went over to the father and handed him the guitar. He did it for the love of music.

FROM ABIOTIC:
RIP goes out to John Lennon and Dime today. Pioneers that were lost, but never forgotten.

FROM ROCK FANTASY (MIDDLETOWN, NY)
today we mourn and celebrate the lives of john lennon and darrell lance abbott ( "dimebag " darrell ) both men were tragically taken from us on this date

FROM METAL MOTIVATION (FACEBOOK):
The Dimebag that I remember. These photos are from my personal collection from back in the 80s in Dallas, Texas. This is Dime playing at Matley's, a club that Pantera played often. His nickname was "Diamond Darrell Lance" back then, and he did not party a whole lot in those days—not as much as he did later. That was when he was busting his guitar chops like no other and consistently winning Dallas Best Guitar Player award every year. It got so ridiculous that they eventually just made him a judge. After Pantera would finish their last set for the night, Darrell would disappear instead of partying. Where did he go? He would go home and practice. That's what greatness will cost you. RIP, my brother. So very proud of you.

FROM ROADRUNNER RECORDS:
We all miss you.

FROM TROY SANDERS (MASTODON):

"I heard Vulgar Display of Power in 1992. It absolutely blew up. It took over high school rockers by storm and everyone was rocking it. I got to see them support Skid Row at the ti

me. I remember thinking it was really cool a band like Skid Row would take out a badass band like Pantera as support. It was really awesome. I was an immediate Pantera fan for life at that moment. Now, we've done all these shows with Down. It's so cool. We're sitting around talking about swimming pools and saying, "You blew my mind in the early '90s with your old band". We did Soundwave across Australia with HELLYEAH. Vinnie Paul is a total sweetheart. I drank a lot of booze with that man."
FROM OBITUARY:
Today marks the 8 year anniversary of Dime's death. Today we will celebrate his life by Jamming plenty of Pantera, DP and RmR backstage and in club along with a few Crowne pulls onstage.
.......miss you brother!

FROM HELLYEAH:

On this day 8 years ago my brother and best friend was taken away from us for ever!!! His spirit is still with us and drives us on!!! Today I say celebrate the life of the baddest bad ass ever!!! Cheers DIME!!! I LOVE YOU!!! Black tooths for everyone!!! HELLYEAH!!! Kansas City shine for dime tonight and bring it!!!!
FROM RANDY BLYTHE (LAMB OF GOD):
"Tonight's show in Kansas City was an emotional one for us on this tour, especially the HELLYEAH guys. Eight years ago (December 8, 2004) a crazy man jumped onstage and killed Darrell 'Dimebag' Abbott in front of two members of HELLYEAH, one of which, of course, is his brother Vinnie Paul. This night changed EVERYTHING for those of us in metal bands — something had been taken away from us, and it wasn't just Dime. It was our care-free sorta attitude; this sort of thing just didn't happen in OUR SCENE.

"But it did, and we are all the worse for it. Things have changed, but we still are out here. Vinnie and Bobzilla are still out here rocking their balls off — they have my utmost respect for that. I don't know if I would step foot on a stage again after witnessing and going through what they did. But they are musicians — plus Dime woulda wanted it that way; you can bet your ass on that.

"The other day, Vinnie came to me and said, Hey, man, can we have a few extra moments in Kansas City to have a drink in memory of Dime?' Are you kidding me? OF COURSE. So tonight, the whole damn tour, every member of every band, got up on that stage and had a drink in his honor. It felt like family to me, in those best moments of tour when you all are there together, doing this incredible thing, as a FAMILY.

"I wish Dime coulda been there in person with us. But it's like I said tonight onstage — a mad man's bullet can take this mortal shell, but TRUE LEGENDS NEVER DIE. We keep them alive, all of us, when we come together band & audience and do this thing we all love so much.

"RIP, Dime. See ya on the other side, bro!"
