ITP V.013 THE MUSIC BUSINESS: BILLBOARD CHARTS COUNT YOU TUBE VIRAL HITS AND PLAYS

GOING VIRAL: BILLBOARD magazine has modernized the legendary music charts to include YOU TUBE plays, shares and downloads (viral videos official band/artists videos from official accounts and various band/artist YOU TUBE airplay) in the context of what music hits the BILLBOARD charts.

BILLBOARD charts, over 55 years old, has taken an evolutionary step incorporating YOU TUBE, SPOTIFY and other streaming services into determining chart action.

NIELSEN RATINGS (TV) will ALSO be consolidating and incorporating streamed websites, gaming and mobile viewing, therefore changing the definition of TV viewing regarding the digital age.

ITP V.013 EDITORS NOTE: Best news all day, and a relief for all those whom work hard at music viral marketing, PR and PROMOTION and the thankless work for all of whom are bloggers and writers for webzines, VIRAL MARKETING, this is the new model.

FROM BILL WERDE (BILLBOARD):
“The notion that a song has to sell in order to be a hit feels a little two or three years ago to me,” Mr. Werde said. “The music business today — much to its credit — has started to learn that there are lots of different ways a song can be a hit, and lots of different ways that the business can benefit from it being a hit.”
