Formed in 1996, Tampere, Finland's BEHEXEN are one of the premier black metal occultists emerging from the very talented FINNISH metal scene.

BEHEXEN are known for a raw, grim and necro brand of black metal.                                                         Occult in theme, minimalist in production, BEHEXEN's misanthropic black metal and KVLT rituals are legendary.

Here at ITP V.013, we have BEHEXEN's  latest release, "NIGHTSIDE EMANATIONS" (2012), the bands first full length since 2008.

BEHEXEN's "NIGHTSIDE EMANATIONS" kicks off with a (1:13) organ intro and segues into "Wrathful
Hau-Hra".

BEHEXEN's "Wrathful Hau-Hra" invokes a heavy and clean guitar tone with the usual blast beats (HORNS) an amazing vocal performance via Hoag Torag. BEHEXEN thrash out,  evoking a second wave of Black metal (early GORGOROTH).

BEHEXEN's "Death's Black Light", destroys with an intense, misanthropic performance and some melodic rhythm guitar segues as this tune will  perfect for a live ritual.

BEHEXEN's "Circle Me" evokes a mid paced as the band perform at high level of quality musicianship, all while retaining a dark,
doomy atmosphere.

BEHEXEN's "We Burn With Serpent Fire" features awesome guitar solos and tight riffing as "Luciferian Will" brings to mind early GORGOROTH as opposed to the more rawer BEHEXEN of old.

"Awaken Tiamat" evokes originality in riff selection as BEHEXEN do have again, a talented lineup as perhaps songwriting is a weak spot.

BEHEXEN's "Temple Of The Silent Curses" focuses on atmosphere until those cheesy GORGOROTH rip
off melodic guitar riffs are segued. BEHEXEN's "Temple Of The Silent Curses" breaks for a mid tempo with a similar melodic rhythm guitar, into a darker hell ride.

BEHEXEN's "Shining Death"  features awesome blast beats and quality tremolo riffing, ingenious musical ideals with in itself.

BEHEXEN's "NIGHTSIDE EMANATIONS" closes with it's longest track (7:14) "Kiss Of The Dark Mother", a misanthropic and somewhat monotonous dark hymn of ritualistic despondency.

BEHEXEN went balls out for a more sterile production, depending on your taste this can be a positive or negative as many tunes featured on  "NIGHTSIDE EMANATIONS" sound identical.

BEHEXEN are quality musicians entrenched in the FINLAND's talented black metal scene (SARGEIST).
However, the bands musical identity borrow from the second wave of black metal and early 90's Scandinavian bands similar to "Panzer Division" era MARDUK, and GAAHL era GORGOROTH.

Although the BEHEXEN's musicianship is stellar, the lack of songwriting and over all originality disappoint.
It's not that BEHEXEN haven't shaped black metal in FINLAND, they have, it's just the band doesn't progress musically and they do have the talent to do so.

Perhaps, some of us prefer the more minimalist black metal or ov the avant, and we've changed.

BEHEXEN's musicianship is still awesome and if consolidated with more progressive and varied songwriting
these FINNISH occultists could really give the second wave of black metal veterans a misanthropic kick in arse.

However, for BEHEXEN, while demonically ingenious, 15 years too late.
