PETER MURPHY: RELEASED FROM JAIL ON DUI/ACCIDENT CHARGE

 PETER MURPHY, lead singer of Gothic/Nu Wave pioneers BAUHAUS was released from jail (on recognition and recognizance) today in relation to his 3/17/2013 arrest in a hit and run/DUI accident as he rear ended a vehicle in Glendale and then fled to Los Angeles, where he was blocked by an eyewitness until police arrived.

MURPHY plead "not guilty" regarding three misdemeanors, DUI, hit and run and possessing methamphetamine charges. PETER MURPHY was barred from driving via the court as his scheduled NORTH AMERICAN  tour will go on as scheduled.

UPDATE: 3/20/2013: 
Dear All

Peter will be performing all tour dates as planned after being released from custody last night.

All charges that were originally filled as felonies were lowered to misdemeanours and Peter was released with with no bail or restrictions.

Even on the lower charges Peter has pleased not guilty.

He wishes to thank everyone for their support and can't wait to start touring

Peter Murphy was arrested by the Glendale Police Department on March 16th and was originally charged with Driving Under the Influence Causing Injury as a felony. In addition, Mr. Murphy was charged with Hit & Run and Drug Possession as misdemeanours.

The Glendale Police Department sought a bail deviation and bail was set at $500,000.00.
However, the District Attorney's Office filed a complaint in Glendale Superior Court charging Mr Murphy with misdemeanor DUI, Hit & Run and Drug Possession.

Mr. Murphy's lawyers from Hutton & Wilson entered a plea of not guilty to all charges and Mr. Murphy was released on his own recognizance.

Just to clarify something after a couple of comments below and please read carefully.

The amount of Alcohol in Peters Bloodstream was measured at 0.01 way under the 0.08 which is legal. This is the lowest amount of alcohol that is able to register on a breathalyser.

We cannot say anything more right now as after pleading NOT guilty to all charges Peter now must say no more until this matter is resolved.

PETER MURPHY struck a MERCEDES in his SUBARU FORESTER at 11:48 AM fleeing the scene and smashing windows as the MERCEDES accrued moderate front end damage.




MURPHY, whom denied drinking alcohol, stated he had only taken his prescribed medication for depression and he was jet lagged as he is from England and lives in TURKEY.




Police found PETER MURPHY trying to discard a small bag of methamphetamine and was arrested on driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possessing  methamphetamine.




PETER MURPHY was still be held for $500,000 bail as he is considered a flight risk.




PETER MURPHY is best known for his work with goth rock pioneers BAUHAUS and went on to influential solo releases including the modern rock staple "Cuts You Up".
