DEATH METAL ANGOLA CROWD FUNDING CAMPAIGN VIA ROCK THE HUB:

VIDEO BELOW: DEATH METAL ANGOLA CROWD FUNDING CAMPAIGN VIA ROCK THE HUB :

The award-winning documentary DEATH METAL ANGOLA is teaming up with the Fulbright Association to launch THE DMA RESILIENCE TOUR.  Using the electrifying story at the heart of the film, we'll ignite conversations across the US, in cities and communities that are fighting to bounce back from adversity.

THE FILM
DEATH METAL ANGOLA tells the inspiring story of Sonia Ferreira - a war survivor, lover of rock music, and mother to 55 orphans - as she and her partner, the Death Metal musician Wilker Flores, launch Angola's first-ever national rock concert. Their dream is to help their country recover from decades of war, through the power of music and their love for one another.

Dubbed "raucously crowd pleasing" by the Hollywood Reporter, a "cult classic in the making" by the Huffington Post and "a beautifully shot, superb film" by indieWIRE, DEATH METAL ANGOLA follows Sonia and Wilker’s story, giving audiences a look at a rock show off the grid that is fulfilling, haunting, and real. Watch the Trailer

THE TOUR
Having screened in over 40 festivals world-wide on every continent except Antarctica, DEATH METAL ANGOLA is now joining forces with the Fulbright Association to kick off the DMA RESILIENCE TOUR and jumpstart conversations about resilience here at home. The Tour will be a series of screenings, town-hall discussions, and concerts in communities throughout the United States that have been hit hard by economic and natural disasters. We will partner with local schools, community centers, community leaders, and many more, to provide a platform for these communities to connect with each other and to share their stories of resilience and strategies for renewal.

YOUR SUPPORT
Are you a metal-head? A community activist? A believer in dreams? A rock-n-roll fanatic? Someone who believes in women’s right and children’s rights?  Someone who can’t stand Metal or Rock, but loves an incredible story?

WE NEED YOU.

Join us in starting a national conversation about resilience.  About picking up the pieces and bouncing back from the brink.  About how music and art and storytelling bring people together to create communities that thrive.  About the power of dreams.

If we reach our $50,000 goal, the Tour will kick off with limited theatrical runs in New York and Los Angeles. From there, we will move out to the first five cities: Detroit, New Orleans, Baltimore, Oklahoma City, and...a fifth city that YOU get to choose!

How can you choose? In order to engage our supporters as much as possible, we will bring the Tour to the community  that reaches the most pledges by the end of the RocketHub campaign. So grab your friends, and spread the word. Let’s do this together!

Remember, it’s the NUMBER OF PLEDGES that counts, not the amount of money raised. If we happen to go BEYOND our $50,000 goal, then we will expand the tour to more cities across the country on top of the initial five.

AND ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX - DEDUCTIBLE! : The Fulbright Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit, so If you would like a letter of acknowledgement for tax purposes, simply fill out this request form and we will send it to you within two weeks.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Two years ago, when I was in Africa filming Death Metal Angola, something happened that I never expected.   There, in the middle of the bombed-out city of Huambo, Angola, I met a group of people who reminded me of the folks I grew up with in a city that had taken a beating on the other side of the globe: Detroit, Michigan. My hometown.  Like my friends and neighbors back home, they were tenacious, full of grit, perseverance, humor and love for one another. And crazy enough to dream big against all odds.  The musicians at the core of Death Metal Angola have lived through some of the worst humanity has to offer, and in the aftermath they’ve turned to each other to pick up the pieces and build something gorgeous.

They are, in a word, resilient.

Their resilience has inspired me.  And now, I want to share their story with my friends, family, and neighbors in Detroit and cities around the country.  I want to open up a conversation about what it means to be resilient, how ordinary people can create community out of destruction, and how, together, we can make new life out of our dreams. Given what they’ve been through, if they are able to dream big and make those dreams a reality, I know we can to.

- Jeremy Xido
