ITP V.016 ONLY ONE PER COFFIN: R.I.P. KEITH EMERSON (EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER)

Progressive rock legends EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER have sadly announced the death of keyboardist KEITH EMERSON whom passed away last night at 71.

3/11/2016 10 PM EST USA UPDATE: While I'm no fan of TMZ and I don't consider it a source, TMZ is usually accurate if sometimes irrelevant. KEITH EMERSON'S (ELP) death is being investigated as a suicide (gunshot wound to head) as he suffered nerve damage, demoting him to using only 8 fingers as EMERSON suffered from depression.

FROM CARL PALMER (ELP and ASIA):
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson. Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz. I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.

To all ELP friends and fans all over the world, I would like to express my deep sadness upon hearing this tragic news. As you know Keith and I spent many of the best years of our lives together and to witness his life coming to an end in the way that it has is painful, both to myself and to all who knew him.
As sad and tragic as Keith’s death is, I would not want this to be the lasting memory people take away with them. What I will always remember about Keith Emerson was his remarkable talent as a musician and composer and his gift and passion to entertain. Music was his life and despite some of the difficulties he encountered I am sure that the music he created will live on forever.

My deepest condolences go to Keith’s family.
May he now be at peace.
Greg Lake.

FROM SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY:

RIP Keith Emerson. This album influenced my musical senses in a way few have. Masterpiece. Beast of a musician. Sad day.

FROM TOM GABRIEL FISCHER (TRIPTYKON, FORMERLY OF CELTIC FROST) :

Deeply shocked and utterly saddened by the death of Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, one of the most significant inspirations with regard to Celtic Frost's experimentation.

FROM BROKEN HOPE:

Rest easy, Mr. Keith Emerson. ‪#‎EmersonLakeAndPalmer‬

FROM COLD WAVES:

As everyone gears up for the next Cold Waves, we hear that Keith Emerson, one of the iconic keyboard innovators of our time, didn't just die but possibly committed suicide.
The suicide risk for artists, for musicians, for people who work 4th shift at night, for people consistently up late, disconnected sometimes as they are from the daylight and the company of people during the day is dramatic.
And sometimes it seems like all we can do is sit and watch people who make some of the things we love lose themselves over and over again.
As we get closer to the Cold Waves event, I hope that we can all keep the dialogue going of how to create a safety net for the people around us, the citizens of the night, the people who drive so much of our most bombastic culture, and remind them that this world is for them, too.
For that bouncer, or that bartender serving you and your friends tonight, that sound person, the band, the dancers and performers, the grinders and burlesque performers. Or just that goth kid on their way to being one of those. I know we can find a way to turn our care into something actionable and real.
