FROM NECROPHAGIA (JOHN MCENTEE):

I’m humbled and beyond honored to share that I’ll be performing with a project dedicated to honoring my friend and one of my mentors: Killjoy and the music of Necrophagia. For me, this is about carrying on a legacy and a vision that combined horror and metal in a way no one else had done before. Killjoy brought his vision to life and created something truly original and distinctively Necrophagia.
Back in the mid to late 1980s, early demo bands like Necrophagia were a huge influence on me, along with other bands like Death, Necrovore, Morbid Angel, and many others. But Necrophagia painted horror like no one else did in extreme music at the time, in my opinion, no one has done it quite the same since Killjoy’s unfortunate passing in 2018.
Whenever someone who inspired me passes away, it always leaves a space in my heart that is hard to fill. But when it’s also a friend, it hits even harder. Being part of this project is one of the ways I deal with that. It helps me process the loss by doing something that keeps his music going. Everyone has their own way of handling grief, and this is mine. I know not everyone sees it the same way, and I get that. But if being part of this helps even one person discover Killjoy’s work, then I feel like it’s worth it.
This project means a lot to me. I can’t help but get emotional working on it. Killjoy had a real impact on my life. I feel like he never got the recognition he truly deserved when he was with us and after his passing. I want to be part of changing that, even if he’s no longer around to see it. His music can still live on. As long as I’m able and asked to, I’ll always be here to help preserve his legacy.
Now for the fun part: we’re playing three shows in Italy to honor Killjoy’s legacy, with some amazing musicians from Necrophagia, Goblin and Hour of Penance. I’m incredibly honored to share the stage with them, and what makes it even more special is that it’s all for such a great cause: keeping Killjoy’s music and spirit alive.
Killjoy lives!
