FALSE: ""We were recently made aware of accusations of sexual assault against a member of False. The rest of the group believes the survivor and stands with all survivors of rape, assault, or abuse."

Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A. black metal warriors FALSE have posted the below statement as the band is breaking up over a member accused of sexual assault.

FALSE unleashed "PORTENT", 7/1/2019 via GILEAD MEDIA.

FROM FALSE:

Statement from False:
"We were recently made aware of accusations of sexual assault against a member of False. The rest of the group believes the survivor and stands with all survivors of rape, assault, or abuse. No other part of False or Gilead Media was aware of this single member's reprehensible, inexcusable behavior.
Effective immediately False will cease to exist. The band is over, and we have permanently severed creative ties with the accused member. To be part of a creative community is a privilege. No person that has perpetrated any type abuse or assault can be given a position of power or influence to prey upon others.
Farewell,
False, Minneapolis"

Our bandmate Jimmy Claypool has been accused of sexual assault from multiple survivors and we believe and stand with them. Yesterday we made a statement that did not name Jimmy as the abuser, and it was done so that we could honor the requests of the survivor who contacted us initially. A survivor requested that Jimmy himself be the one to come forward and admit that he preyed upon drunk women, and violated consent and specific boundaries. Unfortunately he is unable to do this at this time, as of Saturday he has been institutionalized for his own safety and health which is where he currently remains. We recognize that not naming him immediately has caused confusion and the appearance of us sheltering an abuser, and we apologize for putting that impression forwards, it was not our intention.
As yesterday unfolded we learned of more instances of Jimmy's reprehensible behavior from multiple sources, and we believe them all. We as a group are taking time to process and unpack the fact that for the past 10 years we have enabled and been blind to a manipulator and abuser of this magnitude. These feelings are ours to unpack as a group and in private, as we are dedicated to centering the voices of the survivors and doing what we can to make sure their preferences are honored with accountability, honesty and integrity. Please don’t be sad about our band being gone, instead please focus that energy on supporting the brave survivors.
It has also come to our attention that there are worries that Rachel has known about Jimmy's abuses and ignored them, she would like to address this specifically:
From Rachel: "While on vacation 4 years ago I was approached by an individual from Minneapolis. They told me that Jimmy was shitty to them and I didn’t delve into it further than that. I called Jimmy and told him about this and asked him to deal with it. Sexual assault was not mentioned and if it had been, I would have handled the situation much differently, and with more severity. That will not happen again. I believe and stand with the survivors.”
We want to make sure it is clear that if people are comfortable coming forward to us with more information we are here to listen, learn, and move forward in a way that helps you heal. We are here to hold Jimmy accountable and to be accountable ourselves for the part we played.
