(EDITORS NOTES: I think TOM G. WARRIOR already explained the break up of CELTIC FROST, However, BLABBERMOUTH.NET has a sensationalist piece on this, as TOM WARRIOR has updated his blog).
FROM DELINEATION II: In late 2005, on the eve of the release of Celtic Frost's "Monotheist" album, Martin Eric Ain suggested that the three of us in Celtic Frost should form a limited liability company, in which all the band members would be equal partners and through which all business transactions, particularly international ones such as touring, merchandising, etc., would be conducted and monitored. I suppose this was the logical and professional thing to do, but I was skeptical inside. Probably due to the nature of our music and due to my - and indeed the band's - very humble beginnings, I still somehow wanted to see Celtic Frost as something of an underground entity. The concept of a corporation did not seem to fit this concept at all.

Nonetheless, the limited liability corporation was duly formed in May of 2006, the month "Monotheist" was released and we embarked on Celtic Frost's most extended tour ever. Ominously, the corporation was called "Ain GmbH", almost as if an omen. As intended, technically we all were equal partners. But in reality, there existed a fundamental flaw in the corporation's articles of incorporation which unhinged this utterly crucial foundation. We were given joint signature by two, meaning if two of the three partners agreed upon something, they could make a legally binding decision for the corporation. In a three-partner corporation, this tiny one-sentence stipulation encourages and enables the formation of lopsided alliances and special-interest affiliations (I am trying to word this nicely), instead of forcing us to act prudently and find a consensus between the three of us. I will blame myself forever for having missed this in 2006 and thus not having insisted on altering the stipulation to require joint signature by all three partners for any and all decisions.

Ain GmbH still exists and convenes once or twice a year, since Celtic Frost's albums and merchandising are still out there, on the market. The first such meeting after the group's spilt was held in August 2008. It was attended by Celtic Frost's manager Antje Lange, by the corporation's accountant, and by Martin and me. By means of a written proxy, Martin also represented Celtic Frost's final drummer, the third partner of the corporation. The meeting was a somewhat subdued and terse affair, but still very constructive and pragmatic.

That such pragmatism was not going to last forever was already evident by the fact that it was impossible for some ten months to get the minutes of the above meeting (designed merely to formally record the decisions already taken at the meeting) approved and signed by all three partners. How pathetic. This situation revealed the prevalent enmity and pettiness. It was a clear indication that the next meeting, to be held on June 29, 2009, was likely not going to be quite that constructive.

The rhetoric emanating from one of my former band mates in Celtic Frost in the days before the meeting served to confirm this assessment. How many times in the past did I swallow or ignore such insults and testosterone-induced vocabulary, for the sole purpose of keeping Celtic Frost operational. Now, however, I was at last able to look at such posture from a distance and with the appropriate detachment. In spite of the seriousness of the situation, the e-mail in question made me laugh spontaneously.

Nevertheless, notwithstanding the fact that we created, rehearsed, recorded, and performed unique music together for some five and a half years, it seems we are now unable to meet face to face. Such was the gist of the communications sent to Antje Lange. The relations between the three former members of the last ever Celtic Frost line-up are, apparently, at a low. Predictably, the meeting resulted in dispute, in further insulting rhetoric, and in an inability to arrive at a levelheaded consensus.

I left Celtic Frost, the group I myself formed with Martin, and in many ways the sum of my life's work, specifically to escape from megalomania, overblown egos, and chronic negativity, after all. And I do not wish to return to such an environment, even if it is only once a year. I wish to write and play music, no more and no less. Following this most recent meeting of the limited liability corporation, I thus relinquished all my financial claims resulting from the sales of Hellhammer's and Celtic Frost's entire catalogue and merchandising and transferred them to Martin Eric Ain and the final drummer of Celtic Frost (I had relinquished my rights to "Monotheist" some time ago already, for the very same reason). At the same time, I tendered my resignation from the corporation, effective immediately.

Some will call me crazy and some will never understand. So be it. It might not be possible to understand this from the outside at any rate. But this is the only way I will be able to avoid having to ever be involved again with another one of these demoralizing annual gatherings and with this disparaging situation.

New shores line the horizon.

Tom G. Warrior (Ex CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER and currently in TRIPTYKON) has announced that NOCTURNO CULTO has written the introduction of the HELLHAMMER biography "Only Death is Real".

Nocturno Culto states: "The moment I got the question if I would write these lines, I was struck by a sensation of true joy. This joy soon transformed to utter fear because I knew, from the bottom of my soul, what impact HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST has had on so many people and the development of a darker metal scene."

"Only Death Is Real" is due to be published in November 2009, the culmination of four years of research, writing, and design. All of the former main members of HELLHAMMER — Steve Warrior, Bruce Day, Martin Eric Ain, and Stephen Priestly — have contributed to this project, along with primary original HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST photographers Martin Kyburz, Andreas Schwarber, and Csaba Kézér.

DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal) is a most talked about sub genre of black metal. DSBM differs from it's genre cousin of black metal as the thrash and brutality is tempered for a melodic dark, ambient, metal/ rock sound and the lyrical concepts revolve around depression, hate and suicide as opposed to anti christian and satanic themes.
Here we have a split 7 inch from DSBM legends JOYLESS (NORWAY) and ambient DSBM heroes URFAUST (NETHERLANDS). JOYLESS abandoned their earlier, nihilistic black metal roots on "Wisdom and Arrogance" (2000) for dark, depressive black pop. On the JOYLESS/ URFAUST split 7 inch, both bands perform their unique brand of depressive avant garde rock as URFAUST are stripped of their ambient folk, drone experimentation for a more straight forward approach. Dutch duo URFAUST are the masters of ambient/drone post black metal. URFAUST employ melodic folk over tones, clean vocals, drone and a raw black metal/production that would make DARKTHRONE proud.
I would have to say that "Unter Töchtern Der Wüste" is quite the departure from URFAUST's dark, ambient post black metal, "Unter Töchtern Der Wüste" is soo melodic and damn beautiful, it can not be denied. The diversity of URFAUST's avant garde (folk, ambient/drone black, depressive, black metal) experimentation is well worth the consolidation into one release as URFAUST perform all very well.
URFAUST's "Unter Töchtern Der Wüste" fades in well with Willem's soaring clean vocals as this is his best performance yet, as "Unter Töchtern Der Wüste" sinks in for a beautiful, melodic slow dance of melancholic depression. Interesting to hear URFAUST enter some post/black rock territory, and "Unter Töchtern Der Wüste" still feels raw and intimate, an anthem of melodic depression. Do check out URFAUST's latest ambient DSBM masterpiece "IX: Einsiedler", it's devastating.
Norway's DSBM legends JOYLESS round out the second half of this split 7 inch with "The Adorn Japetus" with it's beautiful chanted intro ala Ida Helleboe's mesmerizing vocals. "The Adorn Japetus" is a prozac crawl of gorgeous vocal melodies and a abrupt ending. "The Adorn Japetus" feels slightly incomplete, as if you genuinely wanted to tell someone they're beautiful, you never got a chance, and hours later he/she decided to take their own life. "The Adorn Japetus" leaves you wanting more, if not for the memorizing effect that JOYLESS can have on you.
The JOYLESS/URFAUST 7 inch over all is a keeper, two great DSBM legends, two quality tunes, a musical, Prozac laden soundscape of beautiful, melancholic depression.

****Indiana USA doomsters THE GATES OF SLUMBER have completed work on their new CD "Hymns of Blood and Thunder" due out 9/13/09 on RISE ABOVE records. FROM GATES OF SLUMBER: GATES OF SLUMBER COMPLETES WORK ON NEW ALBUM “HYMNS OF BLOOD & THUNDER

Critically acclaimed “True Heavy Metal” band THE GATES OF SLUMBER has completed work on its new studio album Hymns of Blood & Thunder. The album is slated to drop in North America on September 13, 2009 via Rise Above Records.

THE GATES OF SLUMBER encapsulates the metal experience for true believers. Weaned on Black Sabbath, St. Vitus, the melodic might of Iron Maiden and a host of classic bands from Thin Lizzy to Rainbow to Mercyful Fate, THE GATES OF SLUMBER draws deep from heavy metal's most powerful blood and delivers doom metal in its purest form.

The band’s hotly anticipated new album, Hymns of Blood & Thunder drops on the heels of the brightest and busiest year in the respected power trio’s history; one that saw THE GATES OF SLUMBER pack clubs during its first U.S. headlining tour and land atop many year-end media polls with Conqueror, an album that was hailed as “a breath of fresh air within the doom / true metal underground.” The record placed at the #5 position in Decibel’s "Top 40 Albums of 2008" and made Village Voice Media’s "Top 10 Metal Albums of 2008", joining an impressive list of some of the genre’s finest including AC/DC, Judas Priest and Metallica.

Recorded in Chicago’s Semaphore Studios with producer Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Pelican), THE GATES OF SLUMBER unleashes its holy grail in the formidable Hymns of Blood & Thunder. A mighty document of both powerful songwriting and instrumental skull-crushing, the album is heavy and chillingly bleak; in an almost unrelenting way that hasn't been heard since Judas Priest's heyday (Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin, etc.). Displaying a powerful focus and direction and demonstrating a very compelling emotional range, THE GATES OF SLUMBER have upped its levels of both technique and melody, resulting in an album that is at once frighteningly dark in its effect, tight in its grooves and unrivaled in its sheer power.

"Just prior to the band’s 2008 U.S. headlining tour, I started working on songs for the new record with the goal in mind that it had to be a step forward for us compositionally as well as production wise,” THE GATES OF SLUMBER front man / guitarist Karl Simon remarks. “I knew that I personally wanted to work on more integrated and composed solos to allow for different sides of me to come out - sides that are more influenced by Judas Priest and The Scorpions, rather than the flurries of hammer-ons that I owe to Tony Iommi and Wino. The songs are more aggressive, more riff-y this time, but they also retain the musical elements that we've explored over the last couple of records. Lyrically it's a continuation of our obsession with war, and death and the fantasy worlds where those things are all so common and cool."

Hymns of Blood & Thunder is a sinister, muscular collection that ties the disparate strands of the band’s style together while jacking the adrenaline rush up to previously undreamed-of levels. The group is at the absolute peak of its powers in terms of technical execution and the result is a hard, driving sound that is faster and louder. From the moment the album’s battering-ram sound kicks in all the way through to its ominous title track closer, the group’s fourth full length rocks with a classic heavy-metal vengeance and a hooky, driving momentum that's usually absent in metal's doomy end. Like it or not, heavy metal is here, there and everywhere and THE GATES OF SLUMBER scores a head banger's bull's-eye with Hymns of Blood & Thunder.

"I started working on “Hymns of Blood & Thunder” almost immediately after the “Conqueror” sessions,” Simon continues. “From the first moment I began work on the music for this record, I knew that it was going to surpass everything on Conqueror; and it has. Each of the songs travels through its own movement. In place of "the epic song" or "the fast song" each of these tracks takes its turn being that: “Chaos Calling” is fast, but in the bridging mid-section you will be surprised by the feel change. “Beneath the Eye of Mars” is a grinding death march, until we invoke the deep influence of classic 70's metal in the song’s “pause before the final fall”. The album has its lush surprises as well. We've grown, and being true to that are not forgetting all that we have learned. Get ready to fail your saving throw v. shitting your pants."

The final track listing for Hymns of Blood & Thunder is as follows:

1.) Chaos Calling
2.) Death Dealer
3.) Beneath the Eyes of Mars
4.) The Doom of Aceldama
5.) Age of Sorrow
6.) The Bringer of War
7.) Descent Into Madness
8.) Iron Hammer
9.) The Mist in the Mourning
10.) Blood and Thunder

THE GATES OF SLUMBER has clearly become a new American voice for underground metal, and has done so with maximum conviction. With plans for serious worldwide touring on behalf of Hymns of Blood & Thunder, THE GATES OF SLUMBER is out to show why it is regarded as one of the most talked about new true doom / heavy metal bands today. Beginning August 1, the band will team up with Atlanta’s ZOROASTER and Belgium’s SERPENTCULT for the “North America is DOOMED” summer tour. A full listing of upcoming THE GATES OF SLUMBER live dates follows this message.

In addition to Simon, THE GATES OF SLUMBER features Jason McCash (bass) and “Iron” Bob Fouts (drums).

**************Doom metal masters OGRE are disbanding and will perform their last U.S. show 9/12/09 at Genois in Portland, Oregon: From OGRE:

After much band deliberation and discussion, OGRE has decided that our tenth Anniversary show (September 12 at Genoís in Portland) is going to be our final US gig and, essentially, the end of the band. This decision to dissolve the band was not an easy one to come by, but we feel it is the right call. At this point, there is too much going on in each of our lives to sustain OGRE at the level of quality that our fans expect and deserve.

And, before people decide to jump to conclusions (as is often the case when these things happen), we want to make clear that this decision was entirely mutual, all three of us agreeing that this was the right time to bring things to an appropriate conclusion. We have accomplished a lot of great things during our ten-year run, playing with too many amazing bands to mention, recording three well-received albums, and of course, touring Japan last year. We are proud of what the three of us have been able to do (especially considering how little we started with!), and we thought it would be better to end things on a high note, rather than fizzling out, as so many bands do.

With that in mind, we have decided to turn the tenth anniversary show into something of a ìlast waltz,î giving the band and our fans one last chance to jam out and celebrate together. We have a lot of surprises and special treats planned for this show, and if we can pull everything together in time, itís going to be a night to remember. Suffice to say for now, itís going to be an entire night with OGRE, including three (yes, three!) full sets of fan favorites, cover songs, and OGRE rarities. We really hope that as many OGRE fans, past and present, near and far, will come out and celebrate with us on the 12th, so please make sure to keep checking our MySpace page for more details as the gig approaches.

Even though we have decided to make this our final US show, that doesnít mean youíve heard the last from OGRE. We will continue to work on the deluxe vinyl reissues of our three albums, which are slated for release by Iron Kodex Records (Germany) in the fall and are going to be absolutely killer. In addition, before we made the decision to dissolve the band, we were in the process of planning some European shows in 2010, and we fully hope to honor those obligations. Clearly, the OGRE is a tough beast to slay.

Finally, we just wanted to say thanks to everyone, world-wide, who has supported OGRE over the past ten years. We hope to see some of you at Genoís on September 12!

BEHEMOTH have issued an update stating the band has sorted out their Canadian VISA immigration issues.
FROM BEHEMOTH, ABORT MAGAZINE AND BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "We sorted out all our immigration problems and our show this Thursday [July 30] in London, Ontario [Canada] at the London Music Hall WILL HAPPEN AS SCHEDULED!"

BEHEMOTH guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski recently told ABORT magazine about the band's Canadian immigration issues, "One of our passports was missing this chip; we didn't even know about it. We didn't realize it, actually, because a few days earlier we were allowed to enter the country. I mean, by mistake, they probably just didn't even notice this, because they let us into the country to do these two shows, and next time we wanted to enter, they told us we were missing the chip and we just can't do this . . . Fom all the crazy stories about Canadian borders, nothing really bad had ever happened to us and it's always been pretty smooth and no problems whatsoever. So this is like the first time where we've been rejected to enter the country, which we were all bummed out about it. We really wanted to do these two shows. But well, what can I do?! Sometimes there are things that are bigger than you."

DOOM METAL ALLIANCE MYSPACE has passed along the message that doom metal legends SAINT VITUS have announced exclusive U.S. shows this October, the bands first since 1987. (EDITORS NOTE-From the looks of things, sounds like a TYPE O NEGATIVE/MISFITS haloween mini tour, not totally confirmed yet.) FROM DOOM METAL ALLIANCE AND SAINT VITUS:
Saint Vitus to play the eastern
United States for the first time since 1987!!!

Saint Vitus were thee premiere American doom metal act of the '80s.
They were one of the first to fuse the behemoth riffage and bleak atmosphere of doomier side of Black Sabbath with the desperate aggression of punk rock ala Black Flag and the 80’s flourishing hardcore scene.

Saint Vitus re-united in 2003 for two select shows in Germany & Chicago and then early this year to headline the Roadburn Festival in Holland which expanded to a sold out warm up show in New Orleans, three select club shows in Germany and then a one off show returned to Europe perform for the very first time in France, headlining mainstage 2 at the first night of Hellfest.

Saint Vitus last toured the eastern side of the United States in 1993 and will return for three select shows in October 2009 with frontman Scott “WINO” Weinrich (The Obssessed, WINO, Spirit Caravan, Place of Skulls, Hidden Hand, and Probot) who hasn’t toured with them in these cities since 1987!!!

Saint Vitus guitarist Dave Chandler had this to say about playing the October shows; “I'm really looking forward to playing the east coast again! It should be a blast! Back in the day, the farther east we went, the better the shows were, so it's gonna be cool to see what happens now!”

The only upcoming 2009 tour dates are as follows

Friday, October 16th
@ Club Europa in Brooklyn , New York

Saturday, October 17th
@ Palladium in Worcester , MA
with The Misfits & Type O Negative

Sunday, October 18th
@ Sonar in Baltimore , MD

KATON of legendary Bay Area thrash band HIRAX has sent this update on the new HIRAX release “EL ROSTRO DE LA MUERTE (“The Face of Death”)due out mid August. FROM HIRAX MYSPACE:

LONG BEACH- HIRAX will release their highly-anticipated new studio album - El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) - in mid August 2009. It is the veteran thrash band’s first full-length since 2004’s The New Age Of Terror.

El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) is a dual-studio effort, combining the skills of two HIRAX producers which the band has worked with on their past 3 releases. The ten new tracks were recorded and engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studio in Corona, California, and mixed by Michael Rozen at Speed Semen Clove Factory in North Hollywood. The new CD will also contain 1 bonus track from the Chaos and Brutality EP, which was previously unavailable in The US.

“The combination of Haddad and Rozen’s recording and production are perfect for the vision that we had for the sound of this album,” said HIRAX vocalist Katon W. De Pena. “We worked with Haddad on the last 2 HIRAX EPs, Assassins of War and “Chaos and Brutality. He has a great understanding of the power and speed of HIRAX, and he knows how to bring the best of our talents to the surface. We have a lot of respect for him. HIRAX first worked with Michael Rozen back in 2004 on The New Age of Terror album and it’s great to be working with him again. His experience in mixing and production are what we need to complete the mega-epic sound that we are striving for. It’s the first time HIRAX has ever brought two of our producers together, but it seemed like the logical thing to do since they both have an ear for detail and a certain work ethic which brings out the best in the band. Musically, it combines everything that HIRAX is known for and much, much more! TRUE THRASH METAL!!”

El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) will be released on Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records and will be distributed through CM It will be pressed in CD and vinyl formats as well as a limited edition picture disc.

The HIRAX title Not Dead Yet (the band’s two classic thrash metal albums Raging Violence and Hate Fear And Power together) is now available digitally through iTunes, along with Thrash and Destroy, Assassins of War, The New Age of Terror, and Barrage of Noise. The band plans to release make more of their extensive back catalog digitally by the end of the year. A new line of HIRAX shirts can be purchased through Ltd. (

HIRAX’s El Rostro de la Muerte (“The Face of Death”) tour will begin in Modesto, California on August 1. They have 4 dates in the metal stronghold of Texas, a return date in Chile, and a debut appearance in Puerto Rico. More dates, including an East Coast tour, are in the works.

2. The Divinity Of Oceans
3. O Father Sea
4. Redemption Lost
5. Tombstone Carousal
6. Gnawing Bones (Coffin's Lot)
7. Nickerson's Theme

Ahoy, mate..Arise from your slumber, you are at sea, floating on the water..
AHAB are a funeral doom band from GERMANY, and a damn good one. As Atlanta, Georgia's MASTODON used the concept of the classic Herman Melville novel "Moby Dick" for 2004's LEVATHIAN, Germany's AHAB conceptually are obsessed with all of that which revolves around the ocean and sea. AHAB was the tyrannical captain of the Pequod who is driven by a maniacal desire to kill MOBY DICK the whale.
Germany's AHAB caught my attention with their 2007 release "Call of The Wretched Sea" with it's abysmal, isolated atmosphere and ambient guitar melodies.
AHAB's "The Divinity of Oceans" sheds the brutality and ominous atmosphere of previous releases for a more streamlined sound of ambient, death/ doom, clean and death metal vocal transitions. With songs that range from 7 and a half to 12 and a half minutes AHAB give plenty of room for dark, melancholic atmosphere and brutality.
AHAB's "The Divinity of Oceans" kicks off with "Yet Another Raft of The Medusa" with it's lightly strummed intro and peddle effects inducing a melancholy feel of a boat floating on the moonlit sea. At 1:52 of "Yet Another Raft for Medusa", AHAB kick in at full throttle, for an excellent funeral doom tune, with it's slow, creepy, tempo and riff changes. Awesome clean, atmospheric vocals back up this song for a calling out of isolation.
The title track " THE DIVINITY OF OCEANS" kicks in with a doom/sludge, psychedelic feel.
3:05 into the title track of " THE DIVINITY OF OCEANS", the song shifts into a beautiful melancholic texture, with expressive clean vocals, and back into funeral doom territory.
"Oh Father Sea" the shortest song on " The Divinity of Oceans" (7:06) splashes us with waves of death and clean vocals, and 3:40 into the song, huge waves of riff changes pummel the listener as as the song washes to shore.
"Redemption Lost" opens as a post rock instrumental with clean, atmospheric, almost Gregorian chant vocals. UNTIL: 5:30 into "Redemption Lost" where the clean to death metal vocal transition comes in and at 6:45 sweeps into a floating creepy, melancholic, atmospheric territory.
"Tomb Stone Carousal" is as death doom as it gets with a bluesy sludge that would make Black Sabbath and Eye Hate God proud, and Daniel Droste's excellent guttural death growls. At 3:24 "Tomb Stone Carousal" takes a left turn into a melancholy, ambient transition, ending "TSC" in melodic death doom territory.
"Gnawing Bones (Coffins Lot)" begins as funeral doom with clean vocals and a back and forth death doom/death vocal transition throughout the song. Then the floor drops in "Gnawing Bones" from funeral doom to an ambient, atmospheric transition. The back and forth transition of clean to death vocals, ambient to heavy, melodic death, sludge, to funeral doom is quite the ambition, as there is some potential here.
AHABS "The Divinity of Oceans" closes with "Nickerson's Theme", again with some crushing riffage, and the clean/death vocal transitions.
While, I understand AHAB's goal, (lofty as it is) regarding death to clean vocals, brutal to atmospheric, ambient and death to funeral doom transitions. THE DIVINITY OF OCEANS amalgamation of these elements may be incohesive as the ambient passages could be better written and used sparingly. Perhaps these death vs. ambient transitions is an ambition of AHAB to upgrade past the obscure sub genre of funeral doom. AHABS "THE DIVINITY OF OCEANS" occasionally experiments with sludge and stoner doom, as I don't mind. AHABS "Divinity Of Oceans" is awesome with the ambient textures and clean vocals, Daniel Droste performs these vocal transitions well.
While I'm not necessarily shipwrecked on "The Divinity of Oceans" as the waters are quite calm compared to AHAB's previous release.
Best song on DIVINITY OF OCEANS: 1. Yet Another Raft of The Medusa (Pollard's Weakness)

Ahoy, the wonders of the Sea beckon, and I love AHAB's clean and death vocals..
I feel that I'm floating on the Sea and yes, the boat sways, looking for Whale and fish, as we are doomed in these waters in a constant journey for land. I will choose the Sea. All aboard, as "Yet Another Raft of The Medusa (Pollard's Weakness)"=a classic tune from a criminally underrated band.

DECIBEL MAGAZINE has run a blog/column from JOHN MCCASH of GATES OF SLUMBER about a terrible car crash he gotten into at DUDEFEST. FROM DECIBEL: Gates of Slumber guest blogger Jason McCash cheats death at Dudefest

Posted July 23 by Jason McCash

This past weekend was Dudefest! On Saturday of Dudefest, that night in the city I found a pathway to the other world and I turned away from it.

My really good Friend Mike Hill’s band Tombs played the gig. Well they had some break/bearing issues on their van so when they got into town early that day, they dropped their gear off at the venue and then I took Mike and his van down to my brother’s house (who is an awesome mechanic) to work on their van while they do the gig.

Long story short, my brother hooked them up, I guess their front passenger wheel would have fallen off on their way back to NYC without the work.

Any rate, after Dudefest’s main show was over, there was an after show that ICE 9 played in Fountain Square (and if you don’t know who they are, well you are loosing out. One of the best powerviolence bands that has ever graced the earth). Well I hanged out with a lot of friends that night and my wife took Tombs back to my house so they could crash since they had a 12 hour drive back to NYC on Sunday. I should of left then but, no, I had to still have one night in the city!

So, around a quarter past three AM I decided to head home. I was about 40 minutes away from where I lived. Now to the photo.

On the way home I threw in Death Magnetic to stay awake, I started to get really heavy eyed. The yawns started to kick in and the blinks were getting longer and longer. Well, as fate has it, I happened to close my eyes for a second, then another second, and another second… wait for it… wait for it…

Then I heard a massive bang and felt an extreme pressure and jolt all over my body. I was probably going about 50 miles per hour and I rammed squared on into a parked flat bed 1980-esque dual axle work truck that was parked on the side of the road. As you can tell by the photo, my Honda lost the fight.

I was dazed; these four kids (18 or 19 years old) ran over to my van and one of them opened the door and said, and yes this is word for word what was said because I’ll never forget this for the rest of my days: "Man, are you Dead?!?" Of course I responded to let him know that I was still with the living. Then he helped me out. One of his bros said we need to all 911 for the man but the other one responded, fuck that, the police will come! HAHA. I was in an area of town where the locals weren’t too friendly with the police and vice versa. Plus, the Indiana Black Expo was going on the same night so there was already tensions in the air between the locals and the ones who are suppose to enforce the law but typically abuse it more than they enforce it.

Well back to the story, when I got out of the van, I started to wonder around in the street, still completely dazed so one of the guys took me by the arm and led me to the sidewalk so I wouldn’t get hit by a car, then he tried to hand me his cell phone so I could call 911 (my phone was in the cup holder and got thrown somewhere in the van during the collision) but when I reached for the phone I noticed that my hand was turned into a blood faucet. So, the dude called 911 himself and told them where the wreck was. Some time passed and the dudes stood by me to make sure I wasn’t going to collapse and asked me questions like, "Were you drunk, man? Where you on pills?" Stuff like that. Then when the cops showed up all four of them jetted into the dark of night.

Well with the sirens blowing and the lights flashing, the owner of the truck I hit came out to see what was going on and the first thing he said was, Is the driver of that van dead? The front end of my van was totally under the flat bed of his truck.

Well, cops made sure I wasn’t drunk (which I wasn’t) and took down all the info, called my wife to come get me and had the shit towed. I refused the ambulance ride to the hospital because that would have raped my bank account so I had my wife take me to the ER.

The end result: burns on both of my hands, bruised right wrist, a shit load of cuts on my right hand, massive soreness in my neck and shoulders and bruised/cracked ribs on my right side which still fuckin’ hurts 72 hours later like a mother fucker. But I walked away from the damned thing. I walked away.

The dudes that saw the wreck thought I was dead. The dude that came out of the house whose truck I hit thought I was dead. The Police said I should have died. The EMT said I should have died. But yet, here I am. Still kicking around.

So, all I can do is just give a thumbs up and count today and every other day in my life as a gift!

Well, that is about the extent of my Saturday night. How about yours?

South Carolina death metal gods NILE recently spoke to EXCLAIM NEWS (from the studio) about the long recording sessions for the bands new release. FROM EXCLAIM NEWS: Exclaim! Exclusive: Death Metal Behemoths Nile Talk Those Whom the Gods Detest, a Record that “Shreds Every Previous Nile Album into Tiny Bits”
7/21/2009 By Greg Pratt

With news hitting the metal world that Nile are set to unleash their latest strand of Morbid Angel/Egypt-inspired technical death metal, Those Whom the Gods Detest, we had to touch base with Nile guitarist/vocalist/mainman Karl Sanders to see how the recording process is coming along.

“Gruelling. Exhausting,” says Sanders of the album due out in November on Nuclear Blast. “This album has consumed 12 to 14 hours of my life every day since May. It’s now July and we are fucking tired. And we got another month to go.

“We started off in pre-production in Greenville, South Carolina, then relocated to Tampa to work with Erik Rutan on recording drums. At the moment, we are in Greenville, just finished slaving away on rhythm guitars. When we finish vocals, bass, leads and so forth, we will go up to Chicago at Rax Trax to mix.”

The album will be the follow-up to 2007’s Ithyphallic, and it sounds like Nile fans can expect more of the same bone-decimating heaviness the band have become known for since their first EP dropped in ’95. But lyrically? Looks like Sanders may be looking away from his long-beloved Egypt for themes.

“Musically, the new disc is unrelenting, overwhelming brutality, with lots of various Eastern influences,” he says. “Lyrically there are new and interesting influences from various Middle Eastern cultures.”

Sanders says the band will begin their touring cycle (and, in doing so, will “stick these new songs straight up everyone’s asses”) in Europe in November and the U.S. in January. He also goes on to explain that this disc is not only going to decimate listeners’ ears (and bones!), but it’s going to put the Nile back catalogue to shame.

“This album shreds every previous Nile album into little tiny bits,” he says. “That’s all I’m gonna say; this time around I am going to let the music speak for itself.”

New York thrash legends ANTHRAX have announced that vocalist DAN NELSON has left the band, and all of ANTHRAX scheduled dates on SLIPKNOTS current tour are canceled. FROM ANTHRAX's MANAGEMENT AND SMNNEWS.COM: Major drama appears to be afoot after ANTHRAX manager Izvor Zivkovic released the following statement:

“As announced last week, thrash legends Anthrax regretfully cancelled the first three dates on the second leg of their European tour due to new vocalist Dan Nelson’s unexpected illness. An additional seven European dates are also cancelled, those scheduled from July 22nd to July 30th.

Anthrax is thrilled to announce that they will play the August 1st Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with their good friend John Bush joining them for a very special one-off performance.

The members of Anthrax have confirmed the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson. In light of this development, Anthrax’s slot on the US SLIPKNOT dates, set for August and September, has also been cancelled.

Anthrax is already actively considering lead singer candidates, and looks forward to hitting the road before the end of the year.”
FROM BLABBERMOUTH.NET: Former ANTHRAX singer Dan Nelson has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET via his manager, Michael H. Nelson of MHN Management:

"On the advice of counsel, I have remained silent to the statements issued by ANTHRAX in recent days and now must address these issues to my loyal fans and others. I want to set the record straight.

"I was never seriously ill or sick at all, as reported in ANTHRAX's July 17, 2009 press release. This extremely inflammatory statement hurt me tremendously. This statement misled fans, friends and family members into believing that I was seriously ill when I was not. I was not aware such a statement was being issued and it came as a total shock to me, as I'm sure it did to all of you. It was the other band members' decision to cancel the tour dates, not mine. I was ready, willing and able to do my job.

"After issuing the press release, the other band members decided, on their own accord, that I had 'resigned' from the band. I never resigned from the band.

"Even in view of this action and stance taken by the band, as late as earlier today I made it clear that I was ready willing and able to continue to fulfill my obligations. After that offer was made, the most recent press release was issued which announced my 'confirmed' departure from the band. I was not aware of the contents of this release until after it was issued, nor was I aware that ANTHRAX was canceling the European and SLIPKNOT tours.

"I regret any disappointment and confusion this situation has caused.

"I want to thank my loyal fans, family and friends for all their support and their many messages, emails and calls.

"My counsel has been instructed to take any and all appropriate actions to address this situation."

ANTHRAX's manager, Izvor Zivkovic of Split Media, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today that the band's new album, "Worship Music", which was previously due in Europe on October 23 via Nuclear Blast Records, will now be "pushed back to a later date." It is not presently clear if Dan Nelson's tracks will be erased from the CD, which was recently mixed at a New Orleans studio by Dave Fortman (a former member of UGLY KID JOE who has also worked with artists such as MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE).

ANTHRAX will play the August 1 Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with John Bush (ANTHRAX's singer from 1992 to 2005) joining them for a very special one-off performance.

Dan Nelson and ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante were interviewed by the "Metal Eye" show on Z1 TV when ANTHRAX performed at this year's edition of the biggest Croatian music festival, T-Mobile INmusic festival, on June 25, 2009 at Jarun lake in Zagreb, Croatia. Watch the chat below. Also available is footage of the group's performance at the event.
