Florioda death metal legends MORBID ANGEL have revelaed the art work for the bands anticipated new release "Illud Divinum Insanus" due out 6/7/2011 on SEASON OF MIST. The cover artwork was designed by Gustavo Sazes.

Commented Sazes: "To create this cover we worked from several references, ideas, elements, and I would say a 'world' of options and paths.

"After a long brainstorming period and some [good and bad] ideas left behind, we came up with the concept of this organic surreal insane being; a fallen God or a weird mirror image of our own madness. It is a different MORBID ANGEL cover for sure, but I think that's how MORBID ANGEL is...Deviant and different on each new release. They never repeat themselves. They are always pushing the boundaries and setting new standards.

"I'm really proud of the final results and hope the fans appreciate my work, while listening to the new album!"

Prior to the release of the album, a single for the song "Nevermore" will be made available on May 16 as a digital download and seven-inch vinyl single. The B-side is an exclusive version of new song "Destructos Vs. The Earth", remixed by COMBICHRIST.

"Of all the remixes I've been asked to do I never expected one of the world's most notorious death metal bands to have an interest in hearing their music on the dance floor," said COMBICHRIST mainman Andy LaPlegua. "However, 'Destructos' is one of those tracks that are so versatile that it could have been recorded as a folk song and it would still sound amazing.

"I'm honored to be a part of this project and am excited to see how the MORBID ANGEL fans react to this unusual new direction."

The cover artwork for the single was designed by French artists Valnoir and Fursy Teyssier for Metastazis.

CURRENT LOGO(still ZIG RAY) use this for flyer! German death metal warriors DEFEATED SANITY have announced a late summer/early fall European tour with GORGASM and AMAGORTIS.
"Look out for dates soon! This will be the first tour with new frontman Konstantin Lühring."

Defeated Sanity recently issued the following update:

"We will play a small US tour around Maryland Deathfest in May, 2011. Expect these shows to be the final ones with AJ Magana on vocals. The dates will be released soon.

We enjoyed working with AJ as he is an awesome musician who inspired us with his voice but also a great person in general. Though, everyone of us knows this collaboration is tough to be kept alive over the distance we're living away from each other, making this decision inevitable.

So props to AJ for his contribution to Defeated Sanity. We wish him all the best for the future in both his musical and personal activities! Thank you brother!

As many of you expected our new permanent singer will be Konstantin Lühring (ex-DESPONDENCY).

During the shows he helped out as a session vocalist, he proved himself as the best choice to replace AJ in Defeated Sanity.
We want to welcome him as a permanent member and can't wait to unleash the new tunes we are already jamming with him!"

Dark Funeral - Angelus Exuro pro EternusINSTORES NOV 18, 2009 Swedish black metal legends DARK FUNERAL have sent this band update.

I/we understand that many of you impatiently are waiting for us to announce the new line-up, get back on tour, write and release a new album and so forth, and rightfully so! Personally I wish we would have been back at full force long time ago, but for obvious reasons, we don't want to make any sudden decisions here, which I'm sure you all understand!

Obviously, we could have chosen the quick and easy way, brought in some great and talented session musicians, and just kept on touring, but because we want to build a new, much stronger and sustainable line-up, that was an option was ruled out immediately.

Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick sign of life and let you know that things are moving along just fine. And as long as things continue to go according to our master plan, we should be back at full force before the summer. However, I'd like to point out that we haven't made any final decisions or hired anyone yet, but it shouldn't take much too long until we do. Stay tuned...

The world's first-ever heavy metal film festival will take place at the Downtown Independent Cinema in Los Angeles, California this coming March 31 through April 3, 2011.

The following four shorts will be a part of the first annual Heavy Metal Film Festival's inaugural short film program:

"Faces Of Budokan" - A short film by Mike Cassidy and Tim Sheridan (USA)

In March of 2003, "The Hottest Band in the World," KISS, embarked on a concert tour throughout Japan, stopping for three Crazy Nights at the legendary Budokan Hall in Tokyo. With consecutive sold-out shows bringing out over 14,200 Japanese super-fans each night, the Psycho Circus was as evident outside of the venue as it was inside. Dressed to Kill, the kabuki-faced fans from all walks of life joined en force to celebrate this much anticipated event. This KISS Army was more like a KISS family. With lavish costumes and elaborate face make-up, this spectacle was unrivaled by any modern day costume ball. In other words, it's Cold Gin time again! "Faces of Budokan" puts you front row for the "show" before the show. It's like "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" with an extra shot of sake and a spicy tuna roll!

"Beyond The Thunder" - Directors: Gregg Ferguson and Kurt Squiers (USA)

Finally, a documentary with balls. How did millions of fans connect with AC/DC? To find out... we asked them.

The mission: create a unique film about the fans of one of the greatest bands the world has ever known, AC/DC. The inaugural Heavy Metal Film Festival has been given the unique opportunity to screen 16 minutes of the film for its Los Angeles premiere, as directors Gregg Ferguson and Kurt Squiers are still battling time to complete the project.

"Death Angel: A Thrashumentary" (Trailer) - Director: Tommy Jones (USA)

This is an exclusive 12-minute trailer to the DVD that will be released in 2012. This film gives the viewer an in-depth look into the mighty DEATH ANGEL, one of the longest-running thrash metal acts from the San Francisco Bay Area known for turning out historic thrash bands such as METALLICA, TESTAMENT and EXODUS. With their classic debut album, "The Ultra-Violence", nearing its 25th anniversary, DEATH ANGEL has survived a span of 30 years of activity and now was the time to finally tell their story. Filmed on the "Relentless Retribution" world tour, the film shows the band on the road talking about their career, is cut with "fly-on-the-wall" documentary-style interview footage, and captures their trademarked, high-energy live performances that leaves their fans purged of sweat and adrenaline.

"Capital Metal" - Director: Mohammad Kabeer (India)

"Capital Metal" is a documentary about the local metal scene in New Delhi, India. It features big bands in the scene like THIRD SOVEREIGN and UNDYING INC., as well as little known yet extremely talented bands like PHOBIA and GUILLOTINE. The film focuses on various issues related to the scene, from handling their day jobs and playing metal to how they hold their own in a market dominated by Bollywood. Since no band in Delhi (no matter how popular they are) can play metal to support themselves, they all need a second job. The film was made in eight days with a meager budget of 200 dollars as part of a college project. It is the first metal documentary to be made in India and explores the passion to play music despite all odds and shows us that metal exists outside of Europe and America.

"Las Marimbas Del Infierno" (Marimbas From Hell) by Julio Hernández Cordón will be opening the festival on Thursday evening, March 31.

Advanced tickets to the Heavy Metal Film Festival are now available for purchase via the Downtown Independent Cinema Box Office. Ticket prices will be as follows:

* $9.00 per film
* $15.00 - opening night screening (includes after-party)
* $33.00 - day pass (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
* $66.60 - advanced purchase festival pass (ONLY 30 available at this special price; includes opening night)
* $99.00 – advanced purchase festival pass (ONLY 100 available; includes opening night)

And to top it off, the final track on the EP is another version of “Rebellion In Dreamland,” this time KARAOKE style! The band have launched a special contest, where they’ll be integrating a “choir” of their fans’ voices on the upcoming album version of the song! Diehards and wailers can take part in the competition by submitting a recording of their version of the song via physical demo submission or digital sound file. Full album details are available at this location.

Negură Bunget - Poartă de dincolo MCD - audio preview

Negura Bunget logo
Romanian black metal warriors NEGURA BUNGET are previewing a new track from the up coming Poartă de dincolo MCD: La marginea lumii (Outskirts of the world).
We are happy to present a preview track from the upcoming Poartă de dincolo MCD: La marginea lumii (Outskirts of the world). The track is now available on Reverbnation, Facebook and Myspace. The MCD will be released officially on April 25.
The material was recorded at Negura MUSIC studio. As the name suggests it, Poartă de dincolo (A gate from the above or Carrying from the other side) focuses on exploring the relation between worlds, either from above, under or beyond... The four tracks of the MCD present a spiritual travel to the possibilities of our inner being, reflected on the world above and beyond, on our ethereal and material being. Symbolical meanings engraved in the deepest corners of our mind open the world's mysteries… Long forgotten symbols empower the soul to recognize and expand the limits of our very existence. All is inside, all is on the outside.
Poartă de dincolo is the last Negură Bunget material to be released by code666 Records marking the end of a collaboration started almost 10 years ago.

PLACE OF SKULLS: As A Dog Returns To See European Release

UK/European doomsters PLACE OF SKULLS have set the bands anticipated new release entitled "As a Dog Returns" for a 4/4/2011 EUROPEAN release via Volcom with distribution by ADA Warner. PLACE OF SKULLS will embark on a spring 2011 European tour with Indiana, USA's THE GATES OF SLUMBER.

Volcom Entertainment is proud to join forces with legendary doom guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row, Cathedral) and PLACE OF SKULLS. Titled As A Dog Returns, the nine-track follow-up to 2006's The Black Is Never Far was released in the U.S. last fall via Giddy Up Records. Recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and Griffin with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing, As A Dog Returns will finally see a proper European release on April 4, 2011 via Volcom with distribution by ADA Warner.

Said Griffin of the cooperation: "We're extremely happy with this arrangement. I've had my eye on Volcom for some time now. They're a wide-reaching company and have their hand in other markets besides music... a clothing line, skateboard/surfing apparel, and more. It's cool that a company like this loves heavy music and only puts out the stuff they really dig. It's just a whole different angle than the way labels typically work."

Already commended by critics and fans alike, Cosmic Lava called As A Dog Returns, "intense and evocative…," with Doommantia adding, "...classy, solid and creative, the musicianship is second to none as Griffin is in top form, Tomaselli delivers a stellar performance on the drums and the bass playing of Abney is spot on." Metal Register boasted, "...As A Dog Returns proves, convincingly, that PLACE OF SKULLS are much more than just a Trouble tribute band...a solid and creative heavy metal/hard rock album that will leave an imprint on many a listener." Dangerdog also gave the record kudos claiming, "'The Maker,' 'Breath Of Life,' 'Psalm,' and 'Desperation' are some of the best, somber, foreboding, and often dark, heavy/doom metal you'll find on this side of the Atlantic."

Coinciding with the European release of As A Dog Returns, PLACE OF SKULLS will embark on a European tour with The Gates Of Slumber. Presented by Vibra-Agency, Volcom and Rock Hard Magazine, the dates are as follows:

3/31/2011 FIN - Helsinki, Kuudes Linja

4/01/2011 FIN - Oulu, Nuclear Nightclub

4/02/2011 FIN - Turku, Klubi

The band’s turbulent new full-length Grim Scary Tales presents the classic MACABRE style fans have come to expect, cleverly combining nursery rhyme sing-along quirkiness with ultra-tight, high-speed, gore/grind/death ingenuity. MACABRE have cleverly devised a “story book of murder” with this album, as Grim Scary Tales tracing back to the earliest recorded and most infamous mass killers.

“…this odd, transgressive, audacious record will be like manna from the drill-hole in the head of a Dahmer acid zombie for those who can abide a healthy dose of absurdity in their brutality. 8/10? – Decibel

“Every bit the raucous, gore-grind slab of still-quivering meat fans have come to expect from the band, Grim Scary Tales is another one in the win column for this now legendary trio. ” – MetalSucks

“…a mixed bag, offering some straight up blasters, semi-technical death (these guys are underrated musicians, IMO), “true metal” ballads, chicken-pickin’, poetry and those demented carnival sing-songs that the band likes to dabble in. 8.5/10? – Hellbound

“Blending elements of death metal, thrash, nursery rhymes, country rock, circus music, chamber music, a weird old town crier and even some world music themes Macabre takes the listener on a twisted sonic journey on every track.” – Metal Army America

“…their approach is utterly distinctive, with snappy, unfailingly energetic songs, based around either crisp machine gun death metal riffs or crunching, hooky mid-tempo grooves.” – Metal Reviews

“…the technical synchronicity that the band is capable of is nothing less than awe inspiring, and new fans just discovering Macabre with this disc might not fully appreciate their capability. 4/5? – Metal Rules

Darkness From SUMMON THE CROWS And WINTER Due Via Southern Lord In April

Experimental extreme metal label SOUTHERN LORD have sent this update on new releases. FROM EARSPLIT PR: Southern Lord Recordings have confirmed an arsenal of devastating new releases in the works and in some cases already completed, and awaiting release in the dark months ahead of us.

Set for release on April 12, the ‘Lord will reissue the cult death/doom epic Into Darkness, the crushing sole release from infamous Long Island-based trio WINTER. Initially released on Nuclear Blast in 1990, and while overlooked by the majority of modern “doom fans,” Into Darkness is a timeless, flooring classic album that will finally see the light again, on both CD and LP, in time for WINTER to perform their first official live show since reuniting, at this year’s Roadburn festival in Tilburg, Holland.

Also coming out on April 12, a limited edition release of Oslo, the second album from Norway-based terror trio SUMMON THE CROWS. Entitled One More For the Gallows, the d beat-fueled, ten-track crusher is an absolute neck-snapper, with elements of Discharge, Amebix, Wolfpack and Tragedy, with a whiff of low-end stench core filthiness all culminating in the SUMMMON THE CROWS sound. The CD-only release will see a one-time pressing of 1,000 copies.

Other releases erupting forth from the Southern Lord crypts as the year burns away the world will also witness brand new albums from ALL PIGS MUST DIE, BLACK BREATH, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, EAGLE TWIN, EARTH and blackened acres more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Polish death metal warriors DECAPITATED have issued studio report #6.
Alright guys!

We are slowly heading towards the end of the session. We have been here for six weeks now and we can feel the first signs of fatigue but we are still holding tight. We will be recording the vocals for the fifth song today. Rafal is in excellent form and his vocal is awesome. We have decided for a more middle range timbre because we felt it was the most powerful one. The vocals contribute a great deal to the intensity of the music and therefore the material has gained even more in its potency and destroying might.

I am not going to expand on the lyrics right now as I would like to leave it for later, and the same goes for the music. The author of the lyrics would like to remain anonymous for now. It is a person you all know well and I can only say that the lyrics will be quite controversial and will pertain to our surrounding reality.

To conclude, we are soon finishing the vocals, starting to record the solos and the album will be set for the mixing, which we have actually started already. Daniel is just finishing mixing drums and starting with the guitars.

Take care,

Thanks-Stay Metal, Stay Brutal-\m/ -l-

Wolfsmond Festival (abgesagt) UPDATE

Promoters for the Wolfsmond Festival, set to take place 8/26 and 27th, 2011 Nazza, Thüringen, DE have sent this non English update as perhaps a controversy is brewing between festival promoters and anti nazi activists ANTIFA.
FROM Wolfsmond Festival PROMOTERS:
Absage vom Festival!!! -.-

liebe grüße,

Thanks-Stay Metal, Stay Brutal-\m/ -l-

ONLY ONE PER COFFIN: EXHORDER Bassist Frankie Sparcello Dies

New Orleans, Louisiana thrash legends EXHORDER have announced that the bands bassist Frankie Sparcello passed away 3/22/2011. EXHORDER re united in 2009, and was a huge influence on the 80's underground and NOLA thrash scene. Many bands, including PANTERA, cite EXHORDER as an influence.
Bassist Frankie Sparcello (pictured below) of reactivated legendary New Orleans metallers EXHORDER passed away earlier today (Tuesday, March 22). More information will be made available shortly.

Sparcello joined EXHORDER prior to the recording sessions for the band's sophomore album, "The Law", which came out in 1992. The group broke up a short time later and reformed with its original lineup a few years later. Sparcello rejoined EXHORDER in 2009 and was scheduled to perform with the band at this year's Maryland Deathfest IX, which is set to take place May 26-29, 2011 at Sonar in Baltimore.

EXHORDER played the first concert with its new drummer Seth Davis on December 10, 2010 at The Hangar in the band's hometown.

Seth had been working closely with longtime EXHORDER sticksman Chris Nail in preparation for taking over drum duties for the band's live performances as well as the upcoming recordings.

EXHORDER's lineup for the December 10, 2010 concert was as follows:

Kyle Thomas - Vocals
Vinnie Labella - Guitar
Jay Ceravolo - Guitar
Seth Davis - Drums
Frankie Sparcello - Bass

Poland's Metal Mind Productions re-released the two albums (1990's "Slaughter in the Vatican" and 1992's "The Law") from EXHORDER in May 2008. Each limited-edition digipack title (limited to 2,000 copies) was made available on golden disc, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology.
"On March 22, 2011, Frankie Sparcello, our brother, friend and bassist sadly passed on from us. His sense of humor and gentle soul that touched so many will always be missing from us in our lives and on the stage we are honored to have shared with such a talented musician.

"In situations that were low for us as a band, Frankie usually managed to lift us from the darkness with his silly spirit. His ferocious bass playing and stage presence will always be revered.

"The outreach from family, friends and fans has been amazing for us and the extended EXHORDER family. People are coming from out of the woodworks to lend us their support, love and general kindness.

"Beneath the top layers of we that are known as EXHORDER are real, quality human beings that care deeply for one another and the ones we each call family or friend.

"EXHORDER also extends big arms to Frankie's family, and we consider you exactly that — family.

"Thank you again deeply from the bottom of our heavy hearts.

"Rest well, dear brother. We love you, Frankie."
"The members of CROWBAR would like to send their deepest condolences to the family, friends, and bandmates of [EXHORDER bassist] Frankie Sparcello. We found out last night of his untimely passing, and are all shocked, and saddened. We've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Frankie on many occasions, and have known him for many, many years. You will be missed brother. R.I.P."

Sparcello passed away yesterday (Tuesday, March 22). No official cause of death has yet been released
4/1/2011 UPDATE:
Longtime EXHORDER bassist Frankie Sparcello passed away on Tuesday, March 22nd.

The band will celebrate the life of Frankie on Sunday, April 3rd between 3 - 7 PM at The Hangar in New Orleans.

A message states: "Family, friends and fans of Frankie's music are all welcome to join in reminiscing about our departed friend over music, food and drinks."

Further details can be found at this location:
FROM Kyle Thomas (EXHORDER):
Vocalist Kyle Thomas of legendary New Orleans metallers EXHORDER has penned the following tribute to the band's bassist, Frankie Sparcello, who passed away on March 22, 2011:

"When Frankie joined EXHORDER back in 1990, I believe, it just so happened to be amid some of our darkest days as a band. We were struggling to find a good tour that everyone in the band could actually participate in and had to come up with the successor of our debut album.

"I knew Frankie beforehand, but only casually from hanging out at Last Stop. My earliest memory was him kicking my ass in pool in a random game. He was so polite about it, though; he didn't gloat once.

"When he joined the band, he immediately got settled in and clowned around as if he had always belonged. This, of course, rubbed me wrong. I was so unhappy with many things in my life at that time and somehow I managed to channel it onto him sometimes. He tried to make friends with me, but I wasn't having it. Don't get me wrong — we got along okay, but anyone that knows me knows that I'm particular about my closest circle and I can make things difficult when I choose to.

"We toured together across the U.S. and Europe, and all the while just kind of coexisted. The state of the band really just put an exclamation point on the whole thing. It wasn't until we had broken up and reformed in 2001 that I finally softened up to him.

"I bumped into Frankie at Pat's Pub one night shortly after Katrina. Very few people were home yet, and since Pat's was one of the only bars open, it was always busy. We got to talking and after we told each other our horror stories about the hurricane, I told him how great it was to see him and invited him over to the house. He suddenly stopped and looked at me with an incredulous look on his face and simply said, 'Really?' I affirmed my offer and when I asked him why he asked he said bluntly, 'I didn't even think you liked me.' Boy, did I feel about an inch tall at that moment! Immediately I sat down with him, ordered us a couple of drinks and bared my soul to him.

"Truly, I did not harbor any ill will or dislike for him, it was again just bad timing for him when he joined. EXHORDER was a band in turmoil and everything that went on internally back then was usually not without issue or friction.

"Ever since that night I have made sure that I hugged Frankie when I saw him, we told each other we love each other upon ending a conversation — not every single time, but enough.

"Frankie was welcome in my home, and never behaved disrespectfully to my wife or children.

"Although our friendship was not deeply rooted as many of his other friendships were, it was genuine. I only wish I could tell him all of this again.

"Frankie was never a guy that we really had to wonder where he was. If we were jamming, he was there.

"I am a decent bass player, but Frankie was easily one of the best of his kind. Take that from me, I know what it takes and he had it. We have had some very talented bass players come through over the years and try to win the job, but he just made it look easy where they struggled. The dude flat-out ripped.

"It will be tough to step on the stage without him, but I know Frankie would want us to keep going.

"I have a feeling that we are going to have some tough moments in the upcoming shows.

"To Bobbi, her children, Frankie's children and his family, my words will never take away the pain that we all share in the loss of such a great guy. Still, I express to each and every one of you that my heart is with you all in this awful tragedy. Frankie belonged to all of us at some point and we should all cherish the gift of him that we shared. May we all find comfort in one another and keep the good memories of Frankie alive. It's what he would have wanted, I am quite sure. He always managed to get us laughing when the road got hard for EXHORDER. I can only imagine how it was in his everyday life outside of the band.

"Frankie, I love you, I miss you and I hope you are jamming out hard with Randy Rhoads somewhere."

Thanks-Stay Metal, Stay Brutal-RIP Frankie Sparcello-\m/ -l-
