FROM PATRICIA THOMAS:
Pete Woods.
Farewell old friend. Seems like I've known you forever, long before I
started working in this crazy business. I've enjoyed both our
friendship and our working relationship and I hope that wherever you are
you find peace. Your dedication to Ave Noctum and to music and your friendship will be sorely missed by many.
FROM DE PROFUNDIS:
We are shocked and saddened today to learn about the tragic passing of Pete Woods of Ave Noctum.
Some of the fondest memories of our 2 decades as a band has been defined by Pete's live shots of our shows through the years. His writings as a music critic make his passion for the world of heavy music evident, and that is what made him one of the best.
Pete was an absolute pillar of the UK Metal scene, and it will not be the same without him.
FROM THE BLEEDING:
We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Pete Woods from Ave Noctum.
Pete was a true champion of underground music, and his passion and
support meant so much to bands like The Bleeding. Thank you for
everything, Pete – you will be greatly missed.
FROM CULT NEVER DIES:
We were saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Pete Woods, a longtime champion of all genuinely extreme and underground music, from old-school punk to
experimental industrial to the blackest of black metal. Pete had worked with several members of our parish and was even supposed to be writing a work for CND at some point, although, unfortunately, this ultimately won't come to pass.
Pete was a writer and photographer for over two decades and contributed to respected magazines, including Terrorizer, Dominion and Iron Fist. His enthusiastic but honest documentation of the underground began long before that, however, and, more importantly, it lasted beyond it, his online output arguably becoming even more critical as coverage of extreme and underground music began to disappear from the magazine stands.
To that end, he is probably best known as the founder of Ave Noctum, which he created in 2012 after the demise of the popular webzine Live4Metal. Along with a team of contributors, he worked on this with a rare level of drive, the page becoming an increasingly important source of information and carving a name for itself as one of the most respected extreme music webzines.
Pete was direct and straight-talking to a fault, and even if you didn't agree with him on every issue, there was never any doubt as to his motives. He never sought money or attention and clearly had no interest in becoming part of the mainstream rock/metal/media machine. Instead, he kept his ear firmly to the ground, seemingly living and breathing to bring to attention underground and outsider art.
