METAL AT THE MOVIES PART 12: THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Metal at the Movies is back (DAMNED IN BLACK-BLACK METAL NEWS tomorrow at the latest) with a David Fincher movie entitled "The Social Network"a documentary about the social networking site FACEBOOK. "THE SOCIAL NETWORK" will be scored by Trent Reznor (NINE INCH NAILS).

NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor has announced via the band's web site that he will score "The Social Network" — a.k.a. David Fincher's Facebook movie, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, and Rashida Jones.

"I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS and some new NIN," Trent wrote. "Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, 'The Social Network'. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook.

"I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned.

"Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on. Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out.

"The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.

"As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase — distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two).

"The film opens October 1 in the U.S., with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.

"Speaking of the film... it's really fucking good. And dark!"
BTW Trent Reznor and his wife are expecting their first child from, Blabbermouth.net:
The Pulse of Radio reports that NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor and his wife, singer Mariqueen Maandig, are expecting their first child, according to an interview with Maandig in Women's Wear Daily. Maandig did not say when the baby was due, although according to OC Weekly she posted on her private Facebook page that she's scheduled to give birth on October 10. She and Reznor have acknowledged that plans for a full-length CD release from the couple's collaborative project, HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS, have been put on hold until early next year due to her pregnancy.

HALIFAX METAL FEST 7/30th and 31st, 2010 PARAGON THEATER and GUS's PUB

Promoters have announced the HALIFAX METAL FEST 7/30, 31st, 2010, HALIFAX, CANADA @ the PARAGON THEATER and GUS's PUB.

Sick of all these wimpy festivals going on across Canada this summer? Luckily, the good folks over at Diminished Fifth Records
and Morbid Entertainment feel your pain, so they’ve put together a
two-night fest out in Halifax to fill that gaping hole of death metal
and grindcore in the summer fest itinerary.


Dubbed A Weekend of Noise: The Halifax Metal Festival, the ten-band
affair goes down July 30 and July 31. Headliners will be experimental
grind freakies Fuck the Facts on the 30th and Canada’s blackened death
metal kings Necronomicon on the 31st. Rounding out the bills will be
Iron Giant, Orchid’s Curse, Hellacaust and Soviet Crowbeak on July 30,
and the Daisy Anthesis, Obsydian, Napalm Raid and River Nihil on July
31.


Apart from the top-quality Canadian metal of the headliners on both
nights, our don’t-miss-them pick for this particular fest would have to
go to Hellacaust, who are awesome black/war metal from Halifax who get
bonus points for having an amazing name.


The July 30 show is happening at 10 p.m. at the Paragon Theatre, while
the July 31 throw-down is at the same time at Gus’ Pub. A $20 advance
ticket gets you into both shows; paying at the door will set you back
$15 for July 30 and $10 for July 31. Pick up advance tickets at Random
Play in Halifax or CD Heaven in Dartmouth.



As if two nights of raging Canadian metal isn’t enough, there will
also be door prizes to be won, including tickets to a Black Label

THERION REVEAL COVER ART FOR SITRA AHRA, VOCALIST SNOWY SHAW QUITS BAND

Swedish gothic/classical metal legends THERION have revealed the cover of the bands release entitled "Sitra Ahra" due out September on NUCLEAR BLAST.

I'm happy to announce that THERION are now entering the later phases of the recording of the new album, which will be mixed at the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm. The album title will be Sitra Ahra. 13 songs are being recorded, but it is at this moment not certain which, or if all, of those will end up on the actual record.”Sitra Ahra material, "Expect something spectacular, even by THERION standards!"Vocalist Thomas Vikstrom (ex-CANDLEMASS) became a permanent member of the band in May 2009. Vocalist Snowy Shaw has quit Swedish progressive/experimental metallers THERION after four years, two studio albums, live DVDs and numerous tours around the world.

"I've had a terrific and great time touring and working with THERION and I do wish them nothing but the best in the future, but I've felt for some time that it's time for me to move on," Snowy told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "I also wanna take the opportunity to show my gratitude and thank all the loyal fans for their support, love and understanding."

Shaw — who has previously toured and/or recorded with DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI and NOTRE DAME, among other acts — was forced to sit out this weekend's show with THERION at the Rockharz festival in Germany due to sickness. This would have been Snowy's last appearance with the band.

Snowy has written and co-written songs for the forthcoming THERION album, "Sitra Ahra", which is scheduled for release in September through Nuclear Blast Records.

Shaw's departure from THERION will not affect the group's upcoming live appearances, as singer Thomas Vikström will handle Snowy's parts at the Rockharz festival and on the upcoming tours in South/Central America, Mexico and Europe.

As a graphic designer and artist, Snowy was hired to oversee the visual aspects and help improve THERION's stage act and performance for the "Gothic Kabbalah" world tour 2007 and the band's 20th-anniversary tour.

HALLOWED BUTCHERY SET TO RELEASE "COFFIN LIFE" THIS SUMMER

Maine, USA, one man psychedelic doom project HALLOWED BUTCHERY (RYAN SCOTT FAIRFIELD) shall unleash a sixteen minute epic entitled "Coffin Life" on a split 12 inch (with BATILLUS) on VENDETTA RECORDS this summer. Samples of "Coffin Life" are currently available on HALLOWED BUTCHERY's MYSPACE.

My half of the upcoming BATILLUS split 12" record is complete. It features the 16 minute, 26 second conceptual epic "Coffin Life." The song tells the story of a man born and raised in small-town Maine: his unfulfilled dreams, his wasted years spent working, the death of his wife, his suicide, and an afterlife nothing like that of the sermons he devoted his life to.

Musically, it is an amalgamation of musical sub-genres: from filthy sludge metal, to backwoods country rock, to atmospheric doom, to folk-tinged indie rock, to ambient black metal, to progressive synth-rock. However, the reoccurring complaint from most of the critical reviews of my debut album was that it felt "disjointed" or "forced." This is not the case with this new song, which I believe seamlessly combines and mutates the aforementioned musical styles.

Mastering duties are once again courtesy of James Plotkin of Khanate/OLD fame. The fantastic Vendetta Records will be responsible for unleashing the 12" record upon the masses in June of this year.
