ITP V.012: METAL AT THE MOVIES: PART 1: WHY YOU DO THIS

EDITORS NOTE: This documentary "Why You Do This" was unleashed in 2008, I'm not sure (too lazy to back into the ITP archives) if I've mentioned this documentary on ITP before, if not, here it is, if I have, encore. Here's an ITP EXCLUSIVE "thrown in story". The lead singer of a since disbanded local project (disbanded in 2000) that I used to book (NEXT MAN FLIP) singer (Rich Wager) was in the 80's progressive metal band ATOCHA (I'm not sure if I spelled his ex bands name right-his mom told him to get vocational training after the band disbanded, he's now a plumber in Dutchess County, NY) and his band toured with SLAYER back in the late 80's.. Wager told me stories of starving on the road (touring with SLAYER) as he would take the buffet from the SLAYER tour for later meals. Never forgot the story, and yes, it's true, typical of indie bands slugging it out on the road playing in front of 5 to 500 people.
BTW, regarding the MAGIC of YOU TUBE, I hope Rich Wager has found this video of his old band ATOCHA, he looks way better without the 'big hair".

Welcome to METAL AT THE MOVIES V.012 PART ONE: "WHY YOU DO THIS". What is like to be a small indie band touring the USA, talking off time from work (vacation time) to hit the road? Perhaps a combination of work ethic, passion vs, naive ideals of rock stardom. Holding a day job, to fund musical art, hoping to break even in an industry where commerce and art are often opposed. Paying dues, getting the right tour at the right time while balancing day jobs and careers.
Gotta start somewhere..

The Indie Metal documentary "Why You Do This" is narrated by Michael Dafferner of math core warriors CAR BOMB via NEWFILMMAKERS.

FROM BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
The one-hour documentary "Why You Do This" featuring interviews with members of LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA, CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED and GOATWHORE, among others, has been uploaded to YouTube and can be seen below.

"Why You Do This" is a personal story is told from the perspective of satellite engineer and vocalist Michael Dafferner, who is a member of an unknown "math-core" metal band called CAR BOMB. In 2007 Michael ventures out on his first U.S. tour and discovers that performing in an unknown band playing an unknown genre of music is not the ego boosting experience he was hoping for. The next year CAR BOMB is offered a tour with the goth-punk groups GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN and BELLA MORTE who offer the prospect of playing for large groups of people. Several thousands of dollars in debt and dozens of wasted vacation days later, the band finishes its disappointing tour. Finally, in 2009, CAR BOMB is offered a tour with the well-known and respected bands GOJIRA and THE CHARIOT. During this tour Michael learns what it would be like to live out his dream and the costs associated with making that dream come true.
