ITP EDITORIAL: HUMANITY IS DOOMED WILL BE DEDICATED TO BLACK SABBATH, RONNIE JAMES DIO AND PETER STEELE
ITP WILL be dedicating our doom genre feature HUMANITY IS DOOMED to the immeasurable influence of BLACK SABBATH (in memory of RONNIE JAMES DIO) and also PETER STEELE (TYPE O NEGATIVE).
I'm so glad I got to see BLACK SABBATH at OZZFEST and also HEAVEN AND HELL with Ronnie James Dio.
ITP author woke up this morning in tears, a week after RONNIE JAMES DIO death as I was asked what BLACK SABBATH means to ME.
BLACK SABBATH is a HUGE influence to metal, as the band founded my favorite sub genre of metal: DOOOOOOOOM.
There are three bands whom founded metal: BLACK SABBATH, BLUE CHEER and LED ZEPPELIN. Then the NEW WAVE OF BRITISH HEAVY METAL: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon ect. Then the thrash metal movement: KREATOR, DESTRUCTION, METALLICA, EXODUS, TESTAMENT, SLAYER. Then, the Death, Black, Grind and Extreme metal scene: VENOM, BATHORY, DEATH, MAYHEM, AUTOPSY, NAPALM DEATH.
BLACK SABBATH were the anti dote to hippie culture, scaring the hippies, bringing apocalyptic anti war themes to the masses, and a slow, plodding, atmospheric influential sound..
You can hear the BLACK SABBATH influence echo through out generations of metal. From PANTERA, to TYPE O NEGATIVE to hardcore breakdowns, Gothic metal, traditional, stoner, death, funeral doom, and in ALL genres of metal. Without BLACK SABBATH these bands and the sub genre of doom would simply NOT exist.
Black Sabbath's influence on metal is indelible, monumental, from the "tri tone" (chord) guitar tone, to slow plodding, atmospheric doom, to the metal horns salute \m/ \m/.
Metal owes a huge debt to BLACK SABBATH and finally BLACK SABBATH got their due.
Finally in 2006, BLACK SABBATH were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, the peoples choice band, our influence, I'm soo proud.
Thank you and HAILS to BLACK SABBATH. \m/ \m/ -l-
