Following on from the power-trio's critically acclaimed Revelations in Alchemy debut LP last year, Unorthodox Equilibrium is yet another aptly titled account of the miasmic, sonic sorcery SHROUD OF THE HERETIC create. The band's first full-length exhibited a hungry horde consumed with churning Metal of Death firmly in the post-Incantation canon. Now, with yet another year of growth behind them and bolder visions to realize, SHROUD OF THE HERETIC stretch their cavernous maw wider and to far more epic lengths here on Unorthodox Equilibrium, displaying a more unique identity that's no less morbid and mesmerizing and thusly challenging the precepts of the "sepulchral death metal" idiom that's seen such a resurgence in recent years. With four vast 'n' viscous tracks stretched across an album and each one as evocatively titled as the last, SHROUD OF THE HERETIC right the balance with Unorthodox Equilibrium.
