ITP V.020 UPDATE: BBL WITH MORE EXTREME METAL NEWS
I've needed a break from blogging as I've been glued to CNN regarding the global protests against the Minneapolis, Minnesota police officer DEREK CHAUVIN's third degree murder and voluntary manslaughter of GEORGE FLOYD.
ITP V.020 is ANTI RACIST (ITP's author is African American/Native American) and in solidarity with the protesters.
Be back tomorrow.

FROM ICE CUBE:
All 4 officers should be arrested and charged with murder, TODAY. Once they put him in the patrol car he should’ve never been pulled out the car and killed.
— Ice Cube (@icecube) May 31, 2020
They’d rather arrest hundreds of American citizens then 3 of their own. Very telling.
— Ice Cube (@icecube) May 31, 2020
FROM JOHN CAMBELL (LAMB OF GOD):
This video from 50 years ago spoke the truth then, still rings true today. The slow move away from our insanely racist past isn’t happening fast enough and we are suffering the consequences. Everyone has an individual responsibility to be a part of positive change. https://t.co/ROuF89JpvU

FROM ROGER WATERS:
White Silence Is Violence!
Watch this video! The Police, and those they serve, would clearly rather jack up the violence and would rather burn down the town, than be held accountable under the law.
How about, Murder in the first degree, life imprisonment for the killer and Murder two for the accomplices?
How about actual real law?
FROM ETHEREAL SHROUD:
I feel now is a better time as any to make a point - next time you support a racist band and overlook their abhorrent viewpoints, trying to differentiate the artist from the music, remember the viewpoints they promote and support. They're the same ones that allow people like George Floyd to be murdered just for existing.

FROM BAD RELIGION:
Let us be clear; though our band’s music focuses on the inequalities of our modern society, as white men we can never fully know the reality of being Black in America. We can stand with you, hear you, learn from you how America has failed, and work together to create a new world where all people are free, are heard and are protected and celebrated.
The continuation of systemic and institutionalized racism illuminates the failure of our democracy to fulfill what the philosopher John Dewey called the "moral meaning" of democracy, that it foster the all-around growth of every citizen. We must reclaim our democracy, actively exercise the right to vote that our ancestors gave their lives for and elect leaders committed to the realization of a radical democracy that honors and nurtures all of us.
Be kind and take care of each other, Bad Religion

FROM WOE:
To everyone marching, protesting, kneeling, shouting, standing strong, sending support, and documenting the fight for justice, the fight against absolute power, the fight against authority without accountability, the fight against a racism with roots worked deep into the soil of society: the world is watching, the world is with you, the world will remember.
For those who can't be out there, you can still do your part to support. Donate to organizations that help the cause. Talk with your friends and family. Use your voice to reach people who aren't listening.
If you are looking for organizations worthy of donation, here are some suggestions:

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”
― Frederick Douglass
FROM ZEALOTRY:
All our Bandcamp proceeds for the month of June will be donated to community bail funds and other organizations providing aid to #GeorgeFloyd protesters. We hope other bands join us in doing the same.

FROM NOTHING MORE:
Like many of you, we are shocked and appalled by the senseless killing of George Floyd. In relflecting on this incident and the many other instances of Police Brutality we tried to determine how we could help promote reform in our country and to help hold police accountable for their actions so that equal justice could be shared by all, regardless of race, profession, or class.
Although it may be a drop in the bucket, we've decided to donate money to get out the vote efforts. In the past we have supported @headcountorg in their efforts to register to vote and today we have decided to continue that support both by donating money, by asking you to consider doing the same and more importantly by asking all of you to register to vote. Don't believe those who tell you you're vote doesn't count. Let your government representatives know you want change and remember that next time your at the ballot box. Get involved. Register to vote now at headcount.org/nm

Few days ago, we posted a picture of the burning minneapolis police station subtitled « Lords Of Chaos » in reference to the infamous book about Black Metal and its controversial adaptation. Looking backward, it was probably a mistake to post this as a meme, and other visuals referring to Black Metal tormented past were juxtaposed to the mayhem going on in the USA. Maybe it’s better to laugh than cry over the deeply injust and oppressive context which lead to these totally legitimate outbursts of violence.
But I think we should go deeper than just the fun of putting Black Metal Imagery over USA riots.
A well known french webcomic writer Le Petit Metalleux Illustré (The Illustrated Little Metalhead) recently said in a FB thread that Black Metal and Social Justice are not incompatible.
This seems probably incoherent, since Second Wave Black Metal has been a genre created by white people in a very rich country, and even though you can find explanations in the social context of why it was created and why the burning churches etc…The whole just remains an edgy white teen whine.
Unfortunately, this myth and the values of individualism, hate, misanthropy has been perpetuated by many of the bands following them, mainly consisting of White People who basically have nothing to say, nothing but making Black Metal an empty shell or worse, a musical vector of nationalist, racist or white supermacist ideas.
I think no one should deny that Black Metal has a serious nazi-invasion problem, but it seems that this fact is being denied by most persons in the scene, which is an even more serious problem. Bands hide their far-rights ideologies behind a mask of apolitism. Surely some bands doesn’t speak overtly of white supremacy, but that doesn’t excuse them for being racist vermin. And since Black Metal fan-base consists of mostly white people -unconcerned of problems of systemic racists violence and police racist brutality-, this reality of a Facist-Invaded Black Metal scene is denied by the fans under the argument of « It is just music, we don’t care about politics », and this when they are not themselves also openly racist.
The RABM scene took a huge développement these last years. Unfortunately - but things tend to change-, Persons of Colour, LGBTQIA+ and minorities in general are under-represented. But many bands have taken a stand against oppression, lyrically or just as persons, and especially these last time, in response of the murder of George Floyd and the events following his tragic death.
Right now is a moment to take a stand, dear Black Metal Bands.
Deafheaven, Alcest , Heretoir , friend and comrades Etxgina and other took theirs. RABM has to be inclusive and aware of POC’s and other minorities’ oppressions.
But now is the time to take a stand for the « apolitical bands » to show their support to minorities and to the Black Live Matters movement and for every person living under racial systemic oppression.
Right now is the time to tell your an ally ! If there’s no racism behind your apolitical stands, right now is the time to stand for it.
Right now is the time for labels and promoters who systematically deny the problems of Fascists in Black Metal by being blind to politics, to take your stand. I won't name and tag you, Labels and Promoters, but most of the people reading this will know damn well who I'm talking about.
