FROM ALEX SKOLNICK (TESTAMENT):
Very sad to hear this news (and an unfortunate 1st post of 2021):
As a guitarist, he created new possibilities in extreme metal with technically sophisticated solos that held their own alongside the best in more popularized metal genres.
While I didn’t know him well, we did had have a few public appearances together over the years and I always found him to be humble, very dedicated to music and with a good sense of humor.
A good guy & far too young to go
RIP
FROM ORPHANED LAND:
We've had the privilege to share the stage on countless occasions.
Our deepest condolences for the families and friends.
FROM JOUNI VALJAKKA (WHISPERED):
Devastating news. Rest in peace Alexi.
When I heard Bodom's music for the first time as a kid, it opened a totally new world for me regarding guitar and songwriting. Alexi is mainly known as guitarist more than a songwriter, yet he wrote so many great melodies and riffs. Whispered would be something quite different without Laiho I'd dare to say.
Rest in peace Alexi.

FROM HERE COMES THE KRAKEN:
FROM INERTIA ENTERTAINMENT (CANADA):
Saddened to hear of the passing of Alexi Laiho
I remember first hearing Hatebreeder and thinking wow, these guys (Children Of Bodom) are going to be huge! It was exciting for me when they finally came to North America. I hosted them 3 times in under a year as a support band with Dimmu Borgir, Iced Earth and Lamb Of God, then they sold out a couple shows at Opera House in 2005 before moving on to headline the Kool Haus in 2006. Their initial rise was rapid. Sadly as with Metal in North America, they were ceilinged at this point and aside from some support tours at the Amphitheatre, they never grew past the Sound Academy/Kool Haus Level.
Booking Bodom one last time in 2019, I knew Alexi was was not well, everyone did, it was no secret he did not look healthy. Here was a Killer Musician who loved to play guitar, slowly withering away. I knew from someone who was close to him Alexi never took proper care of his health, all he wanted to do was play his guitar, and would become so consumed with it, he would neglect his life in general (eating/sleeping proper) add other things to that, and eventually you can have. fatal mix...
Rest in Peace Alexi, 41 is way too young to die. I hope you are at peace now.
FROM LEO JIMENEZ:
Rest in peace mate. It's hard for me to think you're gone, just at my age. It's hard.

Today
we heard one more (deadnight) warrior has left us: R.i.p. Alexi Laiho.
Alexi joined us as a lead guitarist in 1998 and recorded Nihil album and
our split 7" ep with Driller Killer with us. It goes without saying
what a virtuoso he was with his instrument. Nihil would have sounded
totally different without him. He was quiet, down to earth master of six
strings. We parted our ways in good spirits and it was great to see how
big his band got. Amazing talent, amazing guitarist and absolutely
amazing guy. Our condolences to his family!

........and this year is off to a great start - what a way to wake up today......shocked and saddened and now angry I can find ANY pics of us together.......RIP the one and only Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom - one of my favorite bands to come out of the same period as Shadows Fall............just another amazing talent that has left us way to soon......years ago we watched “Dude, Where’s my Car” back on tour one night in a drunken haze and it became our thing for when we would see each other over the next few decades (and yes the first time we actually gave each other Sharpie back tattoos as well)- every time we saw each other we would go “Dude, what’s mine say?” And we would point to our back and then the other guy would answer “sweet” and then the other guy would go “what’s mine say?” followed by the response of “dude” - really bummed I’m not gonna be able to hear that Finnish voice go “DUDE?” Halfway across a catering tent or stage or dressing room somewhere....RIP my friend!

FROM ELVENKING:
We are devastated by this horrible news. Alexi Lahio through his music with Children of Bodom (and Sinergy) has been a great influence for Elvenking especially in our first days. We remember the car trips to the studio we made all together for the recordings of our demo and first album. We used to wake up at 7 AM and travel to the studio everyday, and it is impossible to forget all the times we listened to “Something Wild” and “Hatebreeder” at full volume, praising the songwriting, the guitar sound, and hoping to be able to make an album at least as half as good as these metal masterpieces. Many years have passed since, and we still loved the way this awesome musician continued to carry on his career until COB’s awesome last album “Hexed”.
We have no words except a big “thank you for the great music”
FROM ELUVEITIE:
