Since 2002, Finland based OMNIUM GATHERUM have helped define melo death (melodic death metal) and along with country men INSOMNIUM, have cultivated an underground buzz.  

Considering line up changes, and sharing a guitarist with INSMONIUM, OMNIUM GATHERUM are ready for a break through with the bands new release "ORIGIN". 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "ORIGIN" kicks off with "EMERGENCE", a bluesy, melodic instrumental piece. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "PRIME" starts off as a rager then segues into melodic bliss. "PRIME" is an over all, is an uptempo track as light keyboards are in the back round. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  ."PARAGON". features melodic riffs, adorned with light keyboards and clean vocals at the chorus. Very pop sounding. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "RECKONING" sounds like 80's pop with a lightly picked middle part conjoined with the chorus. A bluesy, 80's inspired guitar riff adorns  "RECKONING" with light clean vocals. There are some thrash riffs in  "RECKONING", along with the keyboards,  thus giving  it an epic feel. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "FORTITUDE" is a mid tempo track with the obligatory melodic passages, a play on atmospherics.. A softer mellow passage segues into a heavier riff as "FORTITUDE" employs clean vocals for the chorus. "FORTITUDE"'S soft to heavy formula could be better with better songwriting, as this is pure easy listening. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "FRICTION" is a heavier track with some right progressive influences all while keeping the bands melodic flavor. "FRICTION" segues into clean vocals at the chorus. "FRICTION'S  trade off of clean and death metal vocals, along with quality guitar solos makes for an interesting listen.

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "TEMPEST"  is a well written melodic death metal track with prog tendencies, reminding me of old OPETH. ."TEMPEST" takes a brief stab at blast beats, bringing an atmospheric melo death metal feel to the fore front, and perhaps the best track on "ORIGIN".

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "UNITY" is a perfect single featuring a melodic chord progression adorned with beautiful keyboards."UNITY" features  JUKKA PELKOHEN'S excellent vocals segues with clean vocals at the tracks end. "UNITY" also features a scorching guitar solo, both full of shred and melodic at the same time. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "SOLEMN"enters within a melancholy piano piece and then segues into some heavy and melodic metal. ."SOLEMN" features some vicious thrash written in epic fashion, enough to provoke a mosh pit and crowd surfing. Both death, clean vocals and symphonic keyboards adorn the over 8:00 minute "SOLEMN" as the track is definitely dramatic. .  

OMNIUM GATHERUM'S "ORIGIN" closes with  "IN FRONT OF ME" is an INFECTED MUSHROOM cover within OMNIUM GATHERUM' patented melodic death metal flavor. 

 OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" is a releases of halves: The first half of   OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" is "Meh" dipping too far into the easy listening AORDM (Adult oriented death metal) as I just heard that's a thing now. 

 OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" lacks strong songwriting on the first half of the release provoking boredom. 

However, on the second half of  OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN", the band combines heavier, melodic death metal with progressive tendencies, a back too the roots so to speak. 

Whatever you think of AORDM (Adult oriented death metal) OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" should be a break through release for the band on the stength of the single "UNITY" alone. 

  OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" may takes some risks, but the release if definitely not a failure. Sometimes you wonder if there's any difference between OMNIUM GATHERUM, INSOMNIUM, DARK TRANQUILLITY or even old OPETH. 

OMNIUM GATHERUM are forging their own path as I'm sure "ORIGIN" will get airplay and sell plenty of units. 

 OMNIUM GATHERUM'S  "ORIGIN" is a grower, the more you listen, the more you're intimately connected to this release.
