CAN BARDD are a Switzerland based black metal duo making waves in the scene. CAN BARDD combine folk with tight, vicious atmospheric,  black metal. 

Here ITP V.021 has  CAN BARDD'S new released  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK". 

 

CAN BARDD'S   "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" kicks off with  "ECHOES OF THE MOSS", an beautiful and dramatic ambient piece. 

CAN BARDD'S   "UNE COURONNE DE BRANCHES"  is an epic, 10 minute, AWESOME and powerful atmospheric black metal track with folk elements (flute ect.). Both clean and blackened screamed vocals adorn "UNE COURONNE DE BRANCHES" as the track revels in brilliant instrumentation. From the beauty of ambient to the intensity of blast beats "UNE COURONNE DE BRANCHES" is a dramatic hymn. 

At 6:30,  "UNE COURONNE DE BRANCHES" segues into ambient folk, beautiful I must say, with clean chorus vocals the song is it's very own anthem. . 

 CAN BARDD'S "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART 1" enters within neo, classical acoustic guitar and clean folk vocals. At 2:35, . "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART 1" segues into epic, atmospheric black metal. Violin adorns  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART 1" as the track switches back and forth with a heavy soft dynamic. I love the chorus of clean vocals, it brings an epic feel as  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART 1" guitars and violin pick up the beautiful melody.  .

.CAN BARDD'S "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART II" kicks in with some vicious atmospheric black metal, and excellent performance. I love "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART II" chorus,   adorned by flute and blast beats. .At 4:00,  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK PART II" takes a breather for a soft, spoken word part before blasting into the wilderness of atmospheric and beautifully written folk black metal. 

CAN BARDD'S ."CREPUSCULE" enters with an intoxicating keyboard melody adorned with violin and MALO CAVELLI''S excellent vocals. "CREPUSCULE" plays with heavy and soft dynamics employing blast beats and that great keyboard melody. At 4;13,  "CREPUSCULE" segues into a beautiful classical interlude complete with violins as the full band kicks in for epic anthem. 

.CAN BARDD'S  "SPLEEN BY THE POND" is an eerie, ambient instrumental piece, that, like the sun rising builds upon itself into a thing of beauty. 

.CAN BARDD'S "AUTUMN SHORE" segues perfectly from  "SPLEEN BY THE POND" into a beautiful dark black metal track with a wondrous folk melody. Again,.CAN BARDD' exhibit and heavy and soft dynamics with intoxicating piano and  blackened folk for an epic track.   

 CAN BARDD'S  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" closes with  "BLOMSTERKRANSEN", a beautiful acoustically performed Neo-classical, folk tune featuring Linnéa Lindqvist on vocals.  

CAN BARDD'S  main man MALO CAVELLI'' was only 18 when he got this project off the ground as he has a world a potential. 

 

. CAN BARDD'S  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" is mature, well crafted epic folk, black metal release. 

"DEVOURED BY THE OAK" features well written compositions as the folk elements are the back bone complemented by heavier interludes seguing into epic and heavy atmospheres. 

CAN BARDD' can be compared to MOONSORROW, SAOR and ENSIFERUM. However,  CAN BARDD meld excellent folk, with a variety of instrumentation within a vicious black metal performance. 

I must add that  the folk elements on   CAN BARDD'S  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" are all organic, well written and performed  for an epic atmosphere without being cheesy. 

CAN BARDD'S  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" narrates the ethos of the wilderness as the epic folk melodies are a great contrast to epic black metal. 

I now consider myself a fan of  CAN BARDD as I hear the project has filled out into a full band and do perform live. 

 

 CAN BARDD'S  "DEVOURED BY THE OAK" is so intoxicating and well composed that this release is perhaps (AOTY) ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
