Me and New York METS fans wake up to good news. Generational talent and former NEW YORK YANKEES outfielder JUAN SOTO has signed with our NEW YORK METS.

 FROM ABC NEWS:

Outfielder Juan Soto and the New York Mets are in agreement on a 15-year, $765 million deal, sources tell ESPN. The deal is the largest deal in professional sports history.

FROM HOWIE ROSE (NEW YORK METS ANNOUNCER): YANKEE FANS BE MAD:

 FROM NBC NEWS:

The New York Mets have signed superstar outfielder Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million contract, according multiple reports Sunday. It is the largest contract in sports history.
The decision brings the now-former Yankees star across town to Queens in a bold move by a franchise that has long been overshadowed by the Bronx Bombers.

 FROM RICHARD NEER:

Angry Yankee fans, jubilant Mets fans.
This could be a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.
On the face of it, it looks like a coup. People are writing that the Mets are now the big dog intown. It sure stings to lose Soto for Bomber fans.
But consider this.
If Cohen doesn't open his wallet to add pitching and a first/third baseman, are the Mets measurably better than they were last season? The play in a very tough division, withe the Phillies and Braves, and the Dodgers looming in the West.
The rotation and pen are full of question marks.
The Yanks have a pretty good rotation that they now could add to with a star to match Cole. There's money for Alonso or another good first sacker, and although Pete won't match Soto's numbers, in a lineup with Judge, he should be better than 2024.
They do have other needs on the infield and in center and left, but have the resources to address those needs.
I'm not saying the Yankees will be better in the long run. There are lots of moves left for both teams, and addressing them may be more important than this one signing.
So be happy Mets fans, but know that the Yankees won't go quietly.
