I hope that these morons that attacked (just) 3 emo kids get their green cards revoked, and fuck amnesty for those douche bags, they should never immigrate to the USA..
Keep in mind that this is a class issue as well, working class vs. middle class and homophobia vs. gender bender, jock vs. goth/alternative cultures...Pathetic. This IS an interesting article, as MEXICO very much like Japan apes American and Western culture, often two steps behind America as the USA is 3 steps behind Europe. BTW, punk sold out and died in the 70's, wtf, Mexico get a clue.
Again, metal heads, hardcore kids, what fucking ever, the rationalization for these attacks against emos is LAAAAME. Attacking someone because of their haircut and what they wear, the color of their skin, smell of their breath? No one knows who the real enemy is as corperations are just laughing. Emos kids are just middle class goths, but these issues of class, sexism, homophobia should be addressed vs. Mexican cultural norms and redefining subcultures, religion, and establishing a counter cultural identity. The Mexican identity crisis continues vs. the "promised land" and delusion of American and western culture. When kids get out muscled in the hardcore and death metal pits, they turn to black metal and doom or else where, extreme, more brutal, genres, less machismo. Now with emo and hardcore being mainstream, as both genres WERE for outcast, misfit sub cultures in the 80's and early 90's, the genuine , but intelligent will seek an outlet in other music cultures, some not some mainstream.
I really see both sides of the story here, as emo/punk/hardcore culture in America is so mainstream and house broken that it attracts it's fair share of spoiled, middle class kids, jocks, and ignorant mall core/fashion kids. The black metal scene has it's fair share of racists, homophobes, wingnuts and middle class spoiled kids living with mommy and daddy too. Emo=housebroken commercial rock. 80's Nu Wave=(The Cure, The Smiths) housebroken pop with punk fashion. What's the difference? I really want to buy that book by Josh Kun, sounds like a good read. This comment sounds interesting, perhaps some of the emos are highschool dropouts, dysfunctional in thier own way, if there's nothing wrong with them, what are they complaining about?. Sounds like where I live, people complain about the way someone looks, the smell of their breath,STUPID shit, with sexist, homophobic overtones.. Yet there is NOTHING, (couldn't be anything wrong with them :rolls eyes:) wrong with them, but they sit there, unemployed and complain, BULLSHIT, not substantial.. Some emos internalize issues while jocks externalize it. : "And I think that's the thing. In the Mexican culture, everybody works. You could be a construction worker, but you work and try to get yourself ahead. But the emo kids, it's like, I don't know, it's very 'argh' to just see a bunch of kids not do anything all day". In the USA most emo kids are working or middle class, was that bitching about squatter culture? Envy? It should be an issue of behavior if at all.
Despite the media hype in MEXICO, Emo/hardcore culture is much worse, and violent here, because both genres went mainstream eons ago, as issues of class, lack of integrity and homophobia are more diversionary than ever.
Really, when is the apocalypse coming, because I just want to see the end of this shit before the great equalizer. If you're anything like these idiots that attacked these emo kids, please seek help or end your life. Really, you're not a "troo" metal head or punk if you attack an emo.
For emos, cheer up, you're not so different after all, both punk and hardcore sold out..
This is why I'm metal head, socialist and liberal.
FROM MTV:
Behind The Emo Attacks: We Head To Mexico City To Talk To The People Involved
"Punk has not been commoditized and mainstreamed to the extent it has here in the U.S., where something like 'emo' is in it's third or fourth wave, and there's nothing particularly 'alternative' about it," Kun continued. "In Mexico, it's still an underground identity, and it's taken to extremes. ... It's really striking how overly sexualized it is. Emo kids are so-called 'emo-sexuals' and punks are super-macho and straight. So when they fight, it's about identities."
And despite the rather glum predictions of those in the scene, Kun says there are already signs that emo kids are beginning to be accepted. He points to an instance in Tijuana, one of the sites of the original violence, where rather than attack emos, punkeros decided to embrace them, because it was the punk-rock thing to do.
"Basically, the punk leaders there came together and told all the other punks that violence was not the 'punk' thing to do," he explained. "They said that if you were a true punk, you'd learn to accept the emo kids, because they're different just like we are."
