Who doesn't know the story of mad captain Ahab, whose life goal it was to hunt down and kill the white whale Moby Dick, which eventually cost him his own life? Just as mighty and menacing as his nemesis is how AHAB's apocalyptic funeral doom pours out of the speakers. Tough, grim, evil. This is what it must have felt like when Moby Dick pulled down the ship crew hunting him, into the stormy sea. And even though the Germans' new album 'The Divinity Of Oceans' deals with different subject matter – the true story of the horrendous events that happened on board HMS Essex – nothing has changed in AHAB's slow and brutal direction. On the SUMMER BREEZE stage this band will make the forces of nature palpable for every member of the crowd. Armed with their new album 'The Giant', the future looks promising for AHAB.
A new star on the metal firmament is rising over Sheffield, UK these days. That's where WHILE SHE SLEEPS hail from, with a short but successful history preceding them. After releasing their 2010 debut 'The North Stands For Nothing', they went straight on to play the English Sonisphere festival. This year the British youngsters are gearing up to take over the rest of the continent. Besides SUMMER BREEZE, they will even get a chance at Rock am Ring / Rock im Park, two of Germany's biggest rock festivals. In this country the band couldn't have wished for a better start than this triple whammy. Is this the prologue to a massive breaktrhough on all fronts? Only time will tell, but this five-piece definitely has got what it takes.
It is a widely known fact that SUMMER BREEZE is celebrating its anniversary this year. It's no secret either that people like to drink (a lot) during such festivities. However, no one knew yet that Frankfurt's cider thrashers TANKARD will be on hand, drinking other people's beer. Already on Wednesday the Hessians (hopefully with new songs on their setlist) will make sure that some festivalgoers wake up the next morning with a fierce hangover and an even worse pain in the neck. Even though, thanks to Weight Watchers, frontman Gerre has mutated from a massive beer barrel to an almost petite elf, this doesn't take away from the fact that TANKARD are still absolute guarantee for fun when it comes to bringing any club or festival to boiling point within minutes.
It is a very special honour for us to welcome CROWBAR at SUMMER BREEZE 2012. After the grand masters of sludge/doom/core unfortunately had to cancel their appearance last year, they will finally play one of their rare summer festival shows in Dinkelsbühl for your eyes and ears only. Under their belts the New Orleans natives bring tons of impossibly heavy classics from milestone albums such as 'Time Heals Nothing', 'Broken Glass' and 'Odd Fellows Rest', as well as new crushing riff monsters from their first studio album since 2005, titled 'Sever The Wicked Hand'. Get ready for the heaviest guitars of the universe in conjunction with Kirk Windstein's unique voice, which unites anger, pain and desperation on the one hand with confidence and strength on the other. To put it simply: Unmissable!
Unfortunately FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE have had to cancel their apperance at the Nuclear Blast Label Night, and therefore at SUMMER BREEZE, the reason being conflicting schedules.
However, there's no need for sadness. Frankfurt's cider thrashers TANKARD, who have just begun recording their new album these days, are a more than worthy replacement. Maybe Gerre & Co. will even have some new high percentage thrash grenades on their setlist in time for SUMMER BREEZE!
SUMMER BREEZE Open Air is about to go into its 15th round. For the sixth time, the metallic breeze will blow in beautiful Dinkelsbuehl, Germany from August 16th to 18th, 2012. As usual, this year’s SUMMER BREEZE will take place over three days on two open air stages on the airfield of the Aeroclub Dinkelsbuehl between Sinbronn and Illenschwang. On two open air stages with no simultaneous performances and already from Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 in the Party Tent and on our fourth stage, the Camel Stage, there will be a merciless display of hard music. The weekend ticket is available for 77.- Euros (excl. pre-sale fee, incl. parking/camping and bus shuttle between the festival site and the town of Dinkelsbühl)!
