ITP V.015 ONLY ONE PER COFFIN: R.I.P. LEONARD NIMOY (ACTOR-"SPOCK" STAR TREK)

It is with a broken heart, and with utter sadness we announce actor/director LEONARD NIMOY (ACTOR-"SPOCK" STAR TREK) has passed from end stage of chronic obstructive pulmonary at 83.

ITP V.015 EDITORS NOTE: ITP's editor is a big STAR TREK fan, as most of the technology featured on the revolutionary series are now household items. Not to mention the racial barriers STAR TREK broke, the first screen kiss between a black actress and white actor.
LEONARD NIMOY was an excellent actor a great HUMAN, as he lived "long and prosper." R.I.P. SPOCK.

FROM GEORGE TAKEI (ACTOR DIRECTOR):
Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend. We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to "Live Long And Prosper," and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.

FROM HRC:
Today, HRC remembers longtime LGBT advocate Leonard Nimoy. In 2007, HRC was lucky enough to have Mr. Nimoy speak at our gala dinner in San Francisco. In his speech, he spoke about progress, education and diversity. You will be missed...

FROM NOH8:

To an iconic actor who supported freedom and love for all. Rest in Peace Leonard Nimoy, and thank you. (via Freedom to Marry)

FROM BLACK ROCK COALITION:
The Black Rock Coalition acknowledges the passing of the great Leonard Simon Nimoy. Although we'd never met the man personally, the largess and dedication to the arts. He was an aggressive philanthropist who supported a great many charities (American Cancer Society, Beit T'Shuvah, Nimoy Foundation for The Arts, March of Dimes, American Foundation for Equal Rights, among others) but his devotion to art and developing artists was unique for someone of his stature. He sat on several boards and made generous contributions to numerous arts institutions, museums and performing arts centers. One was the refurbishing of the old Thalia movie theater on West 95th Street, which has long since been incorporated into Symphony Space and renamed the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater. The Thalia was one of the last independent art film theaters in NYC and was slated to be condemned, but Mr. Nimoy came COMPLETELY OUT OF POCKET to refurbish the space before it was annexed into Symphony Space. The BRC produced many shows at that venue, presenting Tamar-kali, 24-7 Spyz, Katreese Barnes, Krystle Warren, EARTHDRIVER ORG, and, of course, The BRC Orchestra. Our respect for Mr. Nimoy is profound and deep--in his transition, we lose a hell of a lot more than Spock... Rest In Power, sir. Your time here has truly been a blessing to us all.

FROM U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:
Pres. Obama on the passing of Leonard Nimoy:
"Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy. Leonard was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time. And of course, Leonard was Spock. Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek’s optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity’s future.
I loved Spock.
In 2007, I had the chance to meet Leonard in person. It was only logical to greet him with the Vulcan salute, the universal sign for “Live long and prosper.” And after 83 years on this planet – and on his visits to many others – it’s clear Leonard Nimoy did just that. Michelle and I join his family, friends, and countless fans who miss him so dearly today.”
