ITP V.019 TECH: EUROPEAN UNION VOTES IN FAVOR OF ARTICLE 13, MEMES EXEMPT

The EUROPEAN UNION have voted in favor of the controversial article 13 as the new law tightens restrictions of copyright.






Article 13 states that linking to infringing content is illegal. It was debated that copyright bots are inaccurate.
Article 13 also holds tech companies liable for copyright infringements including all  copy written material.

Exempt form ARTICLE 13 are memes, online Encyclopedias, communications services, cloud storage, online marketplaces and open source software development. 

ARTICLE 13 legislation won 348 to 278.
