Dear Cold Waves friends and supporters:
And here it is. We held out for as long as possible while building options and taking care of business details, but it’s time to join in the chant: Cold Waves 2020 is officially cancelled.
Our hearts are broken. But we all know your safety and health, our artist and crew health, the still-looming capacity restrictions and the agonizing guessing over international travel and visas, has made this untenable for September 2020.
- If you purchased: 3 day passes, Friday or Sunday single day tickets through Metro (ETIX or box office) will be refunded at the point purchase. If you purchased online via Etix your refund will happen automatically within 10-14 business days. If you purchased at the metro box office you will need to go to Metro for that refund. Please contact ask@metrochicago.com if you are coming in for a refund as box office hours are limited.
- However: we have rescheduled Front 242 (with special guests CONSOLIDATED!) for Sunday April 4, 2021 to close out the rescheduled 242 tour next year. All single-day Front 242 Cold Waves purchasers will receive an email later today with details about your ticket, which will be honored for the new date.
- If you purchased tix through Cracknation or Cold Waves directly, you will be contacted personally within the next 24 hours. Many buyers have expressed varying interests, from refunds to donations to rolling over their purchased tickets to future Cold Waves events (such as Front 242, etc). We will work each scenario out with the buyers individually. Again, please expect an email within the next 2 days.
As mentioned, our booking team has rebuilt the Front 242 tour for March/April 2021. We are working separately with The Young Gods to rebuild later dates for them, details TBA.
A tiny glimmer: Cold Waves is holding a late December weekend as a contingency plan; a domestic talent showcase to celebrate CWIX in some fashion. We will see how the next few months plays out before moving forward, but only if should we find ourselves in a surprising upswing of health, safety and sanity as the world looks to return to the warm embrace of the live concert culture. Let’s put a pin in it, and see what happens. We will come back to this in September, along with some other ideas to keep the Cold Waves spirit alive in 2020.
Other than that, please be safe, stay healthy and take care of each other. Lift up the people that need it the most, look out for those that need your empathy and support, and goddammit, fight the power and protect the people in our society who find themselves under fire.
We will see many of you next spring for Front 242.
But most definitely, mark your calendars for September 16-19, 2021.
