San Francisco, California, U.S.A. death metal legends POSSESSED have posted about putting the 'cult" back in the culture of metal.
POSSESSED unleashed "REVELATIONS OF OBLIVION", 5/10/2019 via NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS.
FROM POSSESSED:
People keep asking me why I’ve been waxing philosophically a bit more and the answer is that I want to finish the rest of this album. So I’m basically just thinking about concepts that I can relate with. Last night I was thinking about. CULTURE
So yeah—put the cult back in culture.
Not in the weird, manipulative sense—but in the original meaning of cultus:
care, devotion, ritual, identity.
Culture used to mean:
These are my people
This is our sound
This is what we stand for
Somewhere along the line it got flattened into algorithms, trends, and disposable “content.”
Let culture mean something again.
Let belonging be earned.
Let loyalty be sacred.
That instinct never went away. It just got hijacked by brands and politics instead of tribes and art.
And metal—real metal—still understands that.
It’s not just music. It’s initiation.
Thanks-Stay Metal, Stay Brutal-\m/ -l-
