SLIPKNOT: Paul Gray of Slipknot treated by doctor charged

The DES MOINES REGISTER has reported that DR. DANIEL BALDI, physician of deceased SLIPKNOT bassist PAUL GRAY was charged with 8 counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with over prescribing narcotic pain killers to patients whom later died.

Gray died of an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, a medical examiner has ruled.
Gray's body was discovered about 10:50 a.m. May 24 by a maintenance worker at TownePlace Suites in Urbandale, Iowa.
A hypodermic needle lay near the bed, and "all kinds of pills" surrounded Gray, who was hunched over in the corner of the room, according to a 911 call.

Polk County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Schmunk said today that it was two injected drugs — fentanyl is a synthetic form of morphine — that killed Gray. The pills did not contribute to his death, Schmunk said.

Gray also suffered from significant heart disease, Schmunk said.

FROM BLABBERMOUTH.NET VIA DR. BALDI's LAWYER GUY COOK:
Daniel Baldi, who helped run an Iowa Health System pain clinic, is accused of unintentionally causing the death of Paul Gray by writing "high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict" starting on December 27, 2005, according to charging documents released at the doctor's court hearing today.

The doctor's lawyer, Guy Cook, told DesMoinesRegister.com his client plans to vigorously fight the charges.

"It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor," the lawyer said. "Unexpected deaths can occur in severe, chronic pain patients, unrelated to medical treatment. This is especially true with patients who are drug addicts or drug abusers."

Gray passed away more than two years ago from an accidental overdose of drugs, leaving behind his wife Brenna and daughter October
