New York City, New York U.S.A. based folk, avant garde metal warriors IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT have been making waves with the bands experimental take on extreme metal.

Here ITP V.022 has IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S new release "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" on tap to review.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" kicks off with "CHUMP CHANGE", an experimental noise track with crusty riffs set to death metal vocals. A minute into "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY", the band features blast beats and more pronounced time signatures. "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" goes off on a noise excursion and it doesn't end there. "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" gets heavier with noise, latin jazz influences. From there "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY gets heavy in a grindcore sensibility.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "METROVERTIGO" features crusty inverted riffs as IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S KENNY GROHOWSKI is all over the place adding to the chaos. A piano is swiped as "METROVERTIGO" hits a grindcore kind of groove mixed with PORTAL atmospherics.

A few minutes into "METROVERTIGO", IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT' evoke a quiet experimental excursion before segueing to a heavier dynamic and assorted weirdness.

.IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S . "TOWER OF GLORY, CITY OF SHAME" kciks off with scrappy and crusty atonal, dissonant riffing with jazz drumming. At least "TOWER OF GLORY, CITY OF SHAME" experiemntation is the context of a song. A song that makes you feel uncomfortable in parts as the track unwinds itself into a melodic segment with blast beats.

. "TOWER OF GLORY, CITY OF SHAME" meanders on with spoken word, yelling, and a softer dynamic."TOWER OF GLORY, CITY OF SHAME" segues into some jazzy, experimental nuances, samples, and a beat down rhythm right into blast beats.

..IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S . "MERKURIUS GILDED", for starters reminds me of Australia's PORTAL considering it's suffocating atmosphere as this is as close as the band gets to an accessible tune.At 3:10 into IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "MERKURIUS GILDED", a guest appearance from the king of smooth jazz KENNY G breaks up the darkness with a taste of free jazz. .

.IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "DEATH ON A HIGHWAY" opens like a bulldozer full of death, grind, technical madness mixed with free jazz. I love the fast slow dynamic in the middle of "DEATH ON A HIGHWAY"and the free jazz closing.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "IN THE PLEASURE OF THEIR COMPANY" kicks off with free jazz, trumpets, saxophones as the band finally play jazz together in a free form style.THEN, the sound of the bass thumping and a mesmerizing calm as the band segue "IN THE PLEASURE OF THEIR COMPANY" into progressive rock instrumental.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "BEZUMNAYA" is a doomy, ambient, sampled noise excursion that speeds up unto full blast beat madness comparable to Australia's PORTAL. chugging guitar, and eerie spoken word with samples adorn "BEZUMNAYA" until the track finally slows down into a psychotic, ambient noise drone.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT'S "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" closes with "MAXIMALIST SCREAM" featuring blast beats, odd time signatures, death vocals, jazz excursions and an overall dark atmosphere of fear and dread. .

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT are a polarizing band taking influence from anyone from SUNN O))), JOHN COLTRANE, WEATHER REPORT to PORTAL.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT have just the right level of musicianship to pull off their lofty experimental ambitions as evidenced in the free form styling of "IN THE PLEASURE OF THEIR COMPANY".

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT flirt with so many progressive and avant garde ideas that the bands ambitions could make ones head spin.

However, putting all into the context of a song including death, grind, free jazz, progressive rock and dark ambient noise is no easy task.

CEPHALIC CARANGE were able to pull that off on one release. .

.IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT are weird for the sake of being weird. However, the band is charismatic in their musical ambitions as "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" gets better with repeat listens.

So have a drink and immerse your self into IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT complete madness. . .
