For over 20 years Paris France funeral doomsters MONOLITHE have unleashed slabs of glorious and cosmic misery upon unsuspecting ears.

Here ITP V.023 has MONOLITHE'S new release "KOSMODROM" on tap to review as it is the bands best effort as of yet.

MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM" kicks off  with "SPUTNIK 1", as the track employs both soulful clean (female courtesy of alternative pop artist London Lawhon) and death metal vocals. Brilliant, and I'm already in love with this track. After a few , a minutes of amazing instrumentation, "SPUTNIK 1" segues into a beautiful duet of clean female and death (male) vocals. Absolutely gorgeous.

MONOLITHE'S "VOSKHOD" is a heavier track beginning with death metal vocals and chuggy guitars, painting a dismal yet cosmic atmosphere...At 4:45, guitars sync into a momentous rhythm employing a mixture of light synths, spoken word and other worldly atmospherics..Riffs harmonize and change as "VOSKHOD" picks of from the beginning with post rock melodies.

MONOLITHE'S "KUDRYAVKA". enters at a slow and mournful pace complimented by mournful yet melodic guitars. "KUDRYAVKA". paints a dismal yet spiritual funeral doom atmosphere with plenty of variety in guitar.  .  .    .. .  . .

MONOLITHE'S "SOYUZ" features great, melodic riffs and great emotive death metal vocals. at 3:00, "SOYUZ" picks up the pace complimented by good rhythm guitar riffs. Five minutes into "SOYUZ" the band slows down the pace for a mournful funeral doom crawl complete with weeping, melodic guitars and great solos.

MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM"  closes with "KOSMONAVT", the longest track on the release, clocking in at over 20 minutes..MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMONAVT. crawls in at funeral dooms snails pace with dramatic and light keyboards, monster riffs and intense death metal vox. Eight minutes into "KOSMONAVT...,MONOLITHE'  slows down for a quiet transition with featuring post rock influences. At 12:45, MONOLITHE' come back to funeral doom, in all her melodic glory... .

. .  .

MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM"  is majestic and epic in atmosphere, perfect in execution. MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM" is conceptually about the space race from the Soviet perspective. .."SPUTNIK 1" and the 26 minute epic  "KOSMONAVT" are my favorite tracks featured on "KOSMODROM"..MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM", features tracks of over 10 minutes as it doesn't feel that long, in fact MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM" leaves the listener longing for more.

MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM" features good organic production and an overall great performance of diverse funeral and death doom.

MONOLITHE'S  "KOSMODROM" will bring you a little closer to the cosmos as the connection to the music isn't light years away.
