 MEMORIAM, formed in 2016 were meant as a tribute to extreme metal greats BOLT THROWER. MEMORIAM have marked their own sound equal parts BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION mixed with epic war themes. 

 

Here ITP V.023 has perhaps MEMORIAM'S best release to date,  "RISE TO POWER"  on tap to review. 

 MEMORIAM: "RISE TO POWER"  kicks off with "NEVER FORGET, NEVER AGAIN (6 MILLION DEAD), an ode to WWII and holocaust survivors.  MEMORIAM'S rocks with melodic twin guitars, definitive riffing  rooted in death metal with barking lead vocals.  

 MEMORIAM'S "TOTAL WAR"  features  definitive rhythm guitar riffs and a slow, melodic guitar breakdown. Blast beats segue a minute into MEMORIAM'S "TOTAL WAR" with classic death metal riffs. Good songwriting as the band warn fans not to feed the war machine. 

 MEMORIAM'S "I AM THE ENEMY" enters slowly with a technical melodic riff. MEMORIAM'S "I AM THE ENEMY "takes off a minute into the track with mid pace  and melodic guitar tones. 

 MEMORIAM'S "THE CONFLICT IS WITHIN" mixes melodic guitar riffs with mid paced, and simple death metal. 

 MEMORIAM'S "ANNIHILATION'S DAWN" features tight drumming, technical death metal flourishes and a faster pace.MEMORIAM'S "ANNIHILATION'S DAWN" features simple, but good thrash riffing, effectively driving the track along. 

 MEMORIAM'S  "ALL IS LOST", features a repetitive chorus backed by some good melodic death metal riffing. 

 The title track to MEMORIAM'S."RISE TO POWER"  is a faster paced track melding melodic guitar with good riffs and quality songwriting. "RISE TO POWER" screams vocalist KARL WILLETTE. 

MEMORIAM'S."RISE TO POWER" closes with  "THIS PAIN" as the track features an acoustic intro as the band segues in in epic tone. MEMORIAM'S. THIS PAIN" rides along with some good thrash riffing, melodic guitar solos and times changes. 

MEMORIAM'S."RISE TO POWER" successfully bridges the gap between old school to melodic death metal. Crusty thrash riffs adorn MEMORIAM'S."RISE TO POWER" as the band melds a more melodic version of themselves. 

There is evidence of BOLT THROWER and some BENEDICTION on some tracks, but clearly MEMORIAM have their own thing going. 

MEMORIAM feature mature anti war lyrics ("NEVER FORGET, NEVER AGAIN (6 MILLION DEAD) and "TOTAL WAR") and good production. 

MEMORIAM'S musicianship is more than competent as drummer SPIKEY T. SMITH shines on the record. 

MEMORIAM'S aptly titled."RISE TO POWER" is the beginning of a rising star.  .
