Australia's NE OBLIVISCARIS have been making waves in the extreme metal scene with their unique bran of progressive death metal.
Here ITP V.023 has NE OBLIVISCARIS new release "EXUL" on tap to review.
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S "EXUL" kicks off with 'EQUUS", a spiraling dervish of a track featuring clean and death metal vocals and a healthy dose of violin.
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S "MISERICORDE I-AS THE FLESH FALLS", is a technical, progressive metal juggernaut featuring excellent clean and death metal vocals and some awesome violin. In fact, the violin trades solos with NE OBLIVISCARIS'S guitarist. . In the middle of "MISERICORDE I-AS THE FLESH FALLS" the band takes an atmospheric break of violin to rim tapping before the track takes off again.
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S . "MISERICORDE II"-ANATOMY OF QUIESCENCE", enters as a ballad, in instrumental atmospherics featuring mournful violin, shredding guitar and a slow beat..At 3:53, features a dominant riff appearing out of no where with excellent violin. Enter drums and bass consolidated with the violin and the vocals (clean and death) segue into ""MISERICORDE II-ANATOMY OF QUIESCENCE",
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S ."SUSPYRE" enters with lightly picked acoustic guitar and a wondrous violin melody. "SUSPYRE kicks in with amazing progressive tech metal complimented by death and excellent clean vocals. ."SUSPYRE features bursts on technical, progressive death metal genius as NE OBLIVISCARIS'S pull na mighty sword.
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S 'GRAAL" is pure technical, progressive death metal bliss.NE OBLIVISCARIS'S perform, ance is flawless through out this track as it features both clean and death metal vocals. Hlaf way through 'GRAAL", NE OBLIVISCARIS' feature an OPETH like acoustic interlude, a calm before the storm.'GRAAL" features some great guitar solos and more violin for atmosphere.
NE OBLIVISCARIS'S "EXUL" closes with "ANHEDONIA"enters in the form of a ballad with beautiful clean singing and an interesting violin performance.
NE OBLIVISCARIS are an interesting band. featuring great, progressive musicianship as the guys have great chops.
NE OBLIVISCARIS have employed classical influences as there is evidence of that on "EXUL".
NE OBLIVISCARIS meld the clasical influences with folk and technical progressive metal with ease.
However, NE OBLIVISCARIS songwriting is a bit messy as the band is trying to do to much. I would like to hear .NE OBLIVISCARIS write more defined riffs and more solos. The violin, while good, distracts from the guitar and is used instead of, instead of addiction to,
I still like NE OBLIVISCARIS'S violin performance, it just it should be used for atmospherics.
Other than NE OBLIVISCARIS needing to tweek their songwriting, NE OBLIVISCARIS'S "EXUL" is an enlightened listen as the band is very talented.
.NE OBLIVISCARIS: "EXUL" .
