Chicago’s NOVEMBERS DOOM has finished recording its eighth full-length album, “Aphotic”, for a May 10 release via The End Records. So, it’s been exactly a year since we lasted posted any news on this website. This doesn’t mean we haven’t done anything. We had to break in our new drummer Niels, we’ve done quite a few shows in 2010 and we have been working on our new album. We have finished writing this album and recordings will start in April in the studio of our keyboard-player Martin in Germany. We have written six songs with an additional intermezzo and an acoustic track. Some of the song titles are: “To The Gallows”, “Burning All Boats And Bridges”, “Your Fall From Grace”, “The Wounded And The Dying”, “Your Heaven Is My Underworld” and “One With The Sea (Part 2)”. These might change though. The title for the new album will most probably be “Mors Viri”.
We have fulfilled our contractual obligations with Displeased Records (http://www.displeasedrecords.com/), so we are currently unsigned. We will record the album and shop it around when it is done and we’re positive one or even more labels will be interested. Of course interested labels can get in touch right away as well.
Next to that we can already mention that we came to an agreement with Spanish label Memento Mori (http://www.memento-mori.es/) to record some exclusive tracks for a split album with our German friends Ophis (http://www.ophisdoom.de/). This one should see the light of day in the fall of 2011.
Next to the recordings we have some great gigs lined up for you, so you can catch us on stage again in 2011. In additional news we can mention that Ed Warby has started recording the second full-length of The 11th Hour (http://www.myspace.com/11thhourdoom). As you might know Bram and Pim are part of the live band and can be seen live on stage with The 11th Hour on a couple occasions.
Pim was also asked by AJ of Beyond Belief (http://www.myspace.com/beyondbeliefofficial) and Seth of Severe Torture (http://www.severetorture.com/) to provide vocals to their new project called Extreme Cold Winter (http://www.myspace.com/extremecoldwinter), so keep an eye out for that one too!

**** Finnish doomsters SHAPE OF DESPAIR shall unleash a split 7 inch with Portuguese doomsters BEFORE THE RAIN. The split 7 inch shall be unleashed in June 2011 by AVANTGARDE Productions from Italy. Shape of Despair side is a cover version of the LYCIA song "Estrella" with Natalie on vocals only. FROM SHAPE OF DESPAIR: ‘Shape of Despair have parted ways with the vocalist Pasi Koskinen. Main reason is Pasi's contribution to his own band Ajattara which takes most of his time. We wish him the best for his future works and thank for the work we've done altogether.
There's no announcement yet for the next vocalist but at the moment Shape of despair is working on material for the next full-length album which hopefully sees the light next year.’

Some people have asked me whether there will be another festival in Baltimore in 2011. Although it's been only a month since Born to Be Doomed, it's probably ok to say it now: I have no plans for another festival, in 2011 or afterward. BtBD was the final festival for me.
There's at least one American doom metal festival next year, in Kenosha, WI, and perhaps another in the works in Pittsburgh, PA. Great bands will play at both, I'm sure. Maybe John Gallo will revive the Born Too Late festival one day, too?
So, thank you to all the bands and fans who made the Baltimore festivals such a good time.

Returning after last year's suffocating debut album Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh, ENCOFFINATION is about to strike back with their new opus to death. The album will include up to ten new songs of abysmal, funeral-bound death metal, recorded in Cooper, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia between January and May 2011.
Guitarist/vocalist Ghoat (Father Befouled, Vomitchapel) says of the new album: "Expect pure darkness. Take everything we have done before and turn it up. More death, more gloom, more decay. Guitars will crush, vocals will possess, and the atmosphere of ENCOFFINATION will strangle you. We are adding more texture in the riffs, more things to take you by the throat and steal your breath."
Based on Ghoat's own experiences of working in the funeral industry, O' Hell, Shine In Thy Whited Sepulchres will be a concept... not in the linear sense, but abstract; from the death of the human form to the sacrifice of flesh into the Earth. FROM ISIS: The digital releases begin with "Live I 9.23.03", a four-song, forty-minute recording from a performance at The Fillmore in San Francisco, which will be available on May 31. Each subsequent recording will be released at two week intervals with dates and album specifics listed below.

The former members of ISIS are busy working on new music with Mike Gallagher scoring films (most recently "22nd of May") and creating music under the MGR moniker, Aaron Turner working with Faith Coloccia on MAMIFFER and HOUSE OF LOW CULTURE, Jeff Caxide creating CRONE with a release forthcoming, Clifford Meyer working on two new projects: WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN and TAIGA as well as continuing with RED SPAROWES and Aaron Harris continuing his production career as he currently wraps up work on LESSER KEY's upcoming album.
ISIS' final studio album was "Wavering Radiant", released by Ipecac Recordings in April 2009.

DOOM IN JUNE FEST-DOOM IN JUNE II FESTIVAL – Saturday, June 4th, 2011 – The Cheyenne Saloon –As promised the celebrated DOOM IN JUNE FEST returns for the Second Annual homage to some of the coolest names in Doom and Stoner Rock Saturday, June 4th, 2011. Last year’s inaugural show was a fun-filled day of some great music that saw people congregating to Las Vegas from around the world. This year Salem Rose Music gives you another dose.
Following a similar format Doom In June II Fest kicks off the summer the first weekend of June (Sat. June 4th) with 15 confirmed bands – some longtime established names and an opportunity to catch some of the brightest young talents – in a carefree, good time environment at the infamous longtime rock club The Cheyenne Saloon (3103 N. Rancho Blvd.).
Set to perform are SOLITUDE AETURNUS, HOODED MENANCE (from Finland), STONE AXE, WO FAT, DUSTED ANGEL, LEECHES OF LORE, WHITE WITCH CANYON, HALLOWED ENGINE, STONEHELM, METH LEPPARD, PSILOCYBIN, …OF THE HORIZON, CROWNED BY FIRE, THE SWAMP DONKEY and locals DEAD NEON.
