FROM SLAYER:
MESSAGE TO FANS: Want to really piss off the Westboro Baptist Church at Jeff's Memorial Celebration? Do exactly what Slayer members and family are going to do - totally ignore them. They don't exist. And then come inside and celebrate Jeff's life with us.
California thrash legends SLAYER have announced a JEFF HANNEMAN memorial, set to take place 5/23/2013 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 - 7:30PM.
SLAYER guitarist JEFF HANNEMAN passed away 5/2/2013 of liver failure at 49.
SLAYER announced late guitarist JEFF HANNEMAN's official cause of death is " Alcohol related Cirrhosis of the Liver", therefore liver failure.
JEFF HANNEMAN was two years AWOL from SLAYER as EXODUS guitarist GARY HOLT replaced HANNEMAN for SLAYER's touring commitments, there for the hold up regarding a new SLAYER release.
SLAYER unleashed "World Painted Blood" 11/3/2009 on AMERICAN
RECORDINGS.
FROM SLAYER:
The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 23 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 - 7:30PM. Hanneman passed away on May 2 at the age of 49."The Memorial Celebration will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-in basis (subject to venue capacity). All ages are welcome, and paid parking will be available around the venue.
Jeff Hanneman helped shape Slayer's uncompromising thrash-metal sound as well as an entire genre of music. His riffs of fury and punk-rock attitude were heard in the songs he wrote, including Slayer classics "Angel of Death," "Raining Blood," "South of Heaven" and "War Ensemble." Hanneman co-founded Slayer with fellow-guitarist Kerry King, bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo in Huntington Park, CA in 1981. For more than 30 years, Hanneman was the band member who stayed out of the spotlight, rarely did interviews, amassed an impressive collection of World War II memorabilia, was with his wife Kathy for nearly three decades, shut off his phone and went incommunicado when he was home from tour, did not want to be on the road too late into any December as Christmas was his favorite holiday, and, from the time he was about 12 years old, woke up every, single day with one thing on his mind: playing the guitar.
It was once suggested to Slayer that if they would write "just one mainstream song that could get on the radio," they would likely sell millions of records and change the commercial course of their career, similar to what had happened to Metallica with 1993's "Enter Sandman." Jeff was the first to draw a line of integrity in the sand, replying, "We're going to make a Slayer record. If you can get it on the radio, fine, if not, then fuck it.
NOTE FROM TOM AND KERRY TO UK/EURO FANS: "We know that our fans everywhere are hurting for the loss of Jeff just as we are.
We want to let you all know that when we come to Europe this summer in June, July and August, we'll ALL be making noise together for our brother and dear friend Jeff... We'll See you then!"

On SATURDAY, MAY 25th of this year, the town of New Paltz is going to throw an ALL DAY celebration in his honor. And ALL of his friends are invited---which means that EVERYONE in town will be here celebrating!
We will start with a memorial service at HASBROUCK PARK at NOON.
We will then march into town (PARADE STYLE! as Ludwig would have LOVED) and commence music and events from 2PM into the the late night/early hours of the morning.
Music will be happening at CAFETERIA, SNUGS, CABALOOSA, OASIS, WATER STREET MARKET, and potentially elsewhere. Just like Ludwig, this celebration will be EVERYWHERE in town at once, welcoming in all and any with wide open arms and an extended high-five.
The event is OPEN TO ALL who loved and were affected by Ludwig. Please feel free to invite anyone that was a part of his life and community. I think this will be a wonderful event that Ludwig would have loved and treasured so much.
More details to come, which will be posted here on the event page once they come to us:
ALL OVER NEW PALTZ!!!Eternal ray of joy, little bodhisattva, son, brother, friend, loved one. LUDWIG MONTESA is a spirit unlike any other, and he has changed the lives of SO many people. Whether you knew him for two minutes or two decades, as soon as you spent time with Ludwig, you felt the raw and pure energy of the LOVE he had to offer. He is the type of soul that makes you take a second look at your own life and want to improve on your own character. Inner child always projected outward, Ludwig's charm was lovable, mysterious, and inviting. Despite his childlike innocence, behind those eyes was a wisdom that most people only hope to achieve one day far down the line in the journey that is life. Ludwig's wisdom came naturally to him, and he embodied a "be here now" mentality--naturally knowing how to live life in the moment and squeeze the pure essence of life out of EVERY moment.
Ludwig's smile, laugh, jokes, hugs, handshakes, and omnipresent nature will be missed dearly--and beyond measure--by all of the people that knew him. The streets of New Paltz will seem a little emptier without him; however, if there is some thing that Ludwig has left behind for his community it is love and light and a desire to strive to be a little more like him: real, genuine, pure. His ability to love unconditionally was uncanny, and the love that he had to offer was always true, immense, and awaiting you. Always. Ludwig always had the time to greet you with a high-five or a hug (despite whether or not he was "running late for the bus").
New Paltz was more than just a town with Ludwig in it, it was an EXPERIENCE--a wonderful, unforgettable, surreal experience in more ways than any of us can measure. He was a friend to all, a gentle soul, and a genuine being who knew the "secrets" of life we all seem to strive for--how to live a good life, a happy life, a life filled only with love and laughter and GREAT friends.
Ludwig is a staple of our town and community, the epicenter of this wild vortex that is New Paltz. He will be FOREVER loved by so many––just as he had loved so many.
