ITP V.018 SOCIAL JUSTICE: HRC WORKING AGAINST LGBTQ DISCRIMINATION

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has sent the below statement as the organization is working against LGBTQ discrimination.

FROM HRC:

It’s happening again.

From Oklahoma to New York to Arizona and beyond ... legislators are using their power to try to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people.

Our goal is 1,000 signatures from NY by midnight. HRC needs to show we have support from members in ALL 50 states and DC to fight shameful attempts to deny LGBTQ people equal protections under the law, such as:

  • HIV Criminalization Bills. It’s hard to believe, but in New York, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma and West Virginia, our opponents are trying to pass laws that target people living with HIV & AIDS.
  • Bills that Deny Foster Kids a Forever Home with LGBTQ Families. Right now, a bill is moving through the Oklahoma state legislature that would make it legal to turn down qualified LGBTQ Oklahomans seeking to adopt or become foster parents to children in need.
  • Ballot Measures Targeting Transgender Youth. In just a few days, voters in Anchorage will go to the polls to vote on Prop 1, which would rip away crucially important protections against discrimination for transgender people — including protections in public schools.

Right now, our staff and volunteers are on the ground — they’re organizing, protesting, educating voters and meeting with legislators. But we need more people speaking out in NY and across the country. Get mad, get loud and join us!

Thanks-Signing this pledge is an easy way to help. Thank you for believing in equality — and fighting for it.
