 The killing of Daunte Wright occurred on April 11, 2021, in Brooklyn Center, a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota adjacent to Minneapolis. Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black man, was shot by police after he re-entered his vehicle during a traffic stop. According to Brooklyn Center police, a female officer intended to use her taser, but discharged her firearm instead, striking Wright with one shot. Wright drove several blocks before crashing his vehicle into another and hitting a cement barrier. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting sparked protests and demonstrations around the city, including looting at several businesses, leading to a citywide curfew in Brooklyn Center. Unrest also spread overnight in parts of Minneapolis and Saint Paul

Hennepin County Medical Examiner rules police shooting of Daunte Wright a homicide
The fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright has been ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot and killed by an officer during a traffic violation stop on Sunday. During a press conference on Monday, Police Chief Tim Gannon said he believes the officer meant to pull out a taser when Wright was shot and called the incident an “accidental discharge.” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey both announced 7 pm curfews on Monday following demonstrations on Sunday.
