This journey started in 2017 and we couldn’t be more excited to finally share this news with you all. The album was written as one 60-minute song which has been divided into 7 tracks and will feature our own brand of atmospheric progressive death metal, with influences from black metal, progressive rock, electronica and shoegaze.
The over-arching concept for the album is how groups, people or institutions oppress others they perceive as beneath them, which is a tale as old as time.
WOE tracklisting:
1. The Behemoth That Lies Asleep
2. Slaves
3. Tear Down This Holy Mountain
4. Prosperity
5. Blomsterkrans
6. In The Heavens Above, You Will Become A Monster
7. This Torment Has No End, Only New Beginnings
An Abstract Illusion is:
Christian Berglönn - Vocals
Robert Stenvall – Keyboards, backing vocals
Karl Westerlund – Guitars, bass
We got help from our friend Leith Ajob, who provided the magnificent drumming on the whole album. Sarkawt Karlsson provided a clarinet solo on track 3, Lukas Backeström provided violins on track 5 and bassoon on track 7, Carolina Teruel provided cello on track 5 and Lovisa Strindell provided vocals on track 6.
Artwork was done by Nightjar art of Adam Burke (Sólstafir, Vektor, Barren Earth, First Fragment, Gatecreeper and many more)
Mixing and mastering was done by Robin Leijon (Equilibrium, ATENA, and In Dying Arms).

Six years after a highly praised full-length debut album (Illuminate The Path), An Abstract Illusion return with their second album Woe. A giant and intricate slab of atmospheric death metal inspired by black metal, progressive rock and electronica, Woe offers up some of An Abstract Illusion's most accomplished melodies and riffs to date. A 60-minute song divided into seven pieces, combining beauty and brutality in a unique way, the album's musical depth is a feat to behold, one that will remain lodged in the psyche long after the final note is heard. Let the waves wash over you, the behemoth has awoken... A note from An Abstract Illusion about the lyrics: "The over-arching concept for the album is groups, people or institutions oppressing others they perceive as beneath them. Removal of rights to bodily autonomy, child abuse, honour-based violence. The POV is taking on the role of the oppressor in the lyrics to "Slaves" (song title is another hint)."
