Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. thrash metal warriors MUNICIPAL WASTE:have spent 20 years thrashing the globe as a rather under rated new millennium  thrash band from the New Wave Of Thrash Metal.scene. 

Here ITP V.022 has  MUNICIPAL WASTE'S new release  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN" on tap to review. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN" kicks off with the title track, a punk influenced thrash rager that takes off hard and heavy with good solos. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "DEMORALIZER" is straight up 80's influenced thrash with some twin melodic guitars for starters. A minute into "DEMORALIZER", the track speeds up old school punky, thrash style with some good solos. I see a good pit for this track. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "LAST CRAWL" is a fast track with the usual barking vocals as I can imagine the circle pits and stage diving to this song. .Mid way through "LAST CRAWL", the track slows to mid paces with gang back up vocals. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "GRAVE DIVE" is a well written track having more in common with 80's, 90's hardcore than thrash. 

 MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "THE BITE" is a complete rager with some good thrash riffs, a fast pace, double bass drumming and fun. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "HIGH SPEED STEEL" musically represents the songs title, fast, concise and tight thrash with simple riffs. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "THERMONUCLEAR PROTECTION" kicks off with some heavy thrash riffing, then reverts back to punk influenced hardcore rock o' rama. Half way through "THERMONUCLEAR PROTECTION" the track changes riffs that have more to do with hardcore or 80's metal rip off riffs than thrash.

 MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "BLOOD VESSEL/BOAT JAIL" is by far the best track on this release. Experimenting with djent, blast beats and keeping a simple punk vibe, the track slays. 

 MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "CRANK THE HEAT" features good drumming, an infectious chorus and good metal riffing. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "RESTLESS AND WICKED" is a good, simple thrash rager, featuring good riffing, enough to get a good pit going. 

 MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "TEN CENT BEER NIGHT thrashes with heaviness and might and I love the lyrics. "Clear the pit". 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S "BARRELED RAGE" is a good thrash rager with a booming chorus and the track is little complex compared to the previous tracks on "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN".

.MUNICIPAL WASTE'S kicks off "PUTTING ON ERRORS" with  metalized punk, hardcore down to the simple chord progressions. "PUTTING ON ERRORS" ends in full on metal although it should be the other way around. 

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN" closes with "PARANORMAL JANITOR", a good old school thrash metal song, with a mid temp feel and some melodic riffing.

MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN"  sounds like more of a "crossover" record than straight up thrash. Don't get me wrong, MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  offer up some thrash riffing.  However the thrash riffs are downsized for a more punk, hardcore flavor that would unite both the hardcore, punk AND metal scenes. 

Although a noble ambition, liking MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  may depending upon what side you are on regarding punk, hardcore and thrash metal. 

The second half  MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN" has more "METAL" moments and more diversity as the three genres (punk, hardcore and metal) and mixed and represented well. 

However, most of the first half of MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  "ELECTRIFIED BRAIN" seems redundant with the same punk drum beat and the same three chord punk, thrash crossover. 

I wouldn't mind it if MUNICIPAL WASTE' expanded their songs past the two to three minute mark and melded all three genres in the context of a song. 

However, punky hardcore laden cross over thrash metal is MUNICIPAL WASTE'S thing and I doubt they would add more thrash riffing. 

  MUNICIPAL WASTE'S  lyrical topics cover cheap beers, the art of cleaning, nuclear war protection and more working class and societal issues.

Anyway, I'm sure there would be some sick circle and mosh pits for MUNICIPAL WASTE as they slay live so do get to one of their ragers.
