WHITE WARD are an UKRAINIAN Avant garde black metal band employing elements of jazz fusion with blackgaze and post, black metal.

Here ITP V.022 has WHITE WARD'S groundbreaking release "FALSE LIGHT" on tap to review.

WHITE WARD'S "FALSE LIGHT" kicks off with "LEVIATHAN" featuring screaming black metal vocals, blast beats and well composed black metal riffing."LEVIATHAN'S" The melodic rhythm guitar playing is emotive.A few minutes into "LEVIATHAN" one can hear either a saxophone or violin as the track slows down into a snails pace. At 6:48 into "LEVIATHAN" a somber saxophone solo echos across the tracks urban soundscape and it is beautiful.  At 8:50,  "LEVIATHAN" joins the saxophone in a louder dynamic with  blistering black metal riffs, and clean and black metal vocals. \m/ \m/

WHITE WARD'S "SALT PARADISE" enters with  acoustic folk and clean baritone vocals. A beautiful sax solo adorns "SALT PARADISE" as it dips in and out of the track with grace and elegance. .

WHITE WARD'S "PHOENIX" enters in an atmospheric mode with saxophones blaring as the track segues into some vicious black metal. Get in the pit, as "PHOENIX" slays.

Instead of a guitar solo, "PHOENIX" features a prominent SAXOPHONE solo.  At 5: 01 into "PHOENIX" the track slows down for a sexy sax solo, straight from the urban nights as the song segues into some blistering black metal. Well played. At 8:15 "PHOENIX" employs brilliant clean vocals for a nu wave almost danceable break,  flirting with and switching genres in the blink of an eye. The spoken word that closes "PHOENIX is brilliant  as it speaks of the tragedy of the Earth's destruction. .

WHITE WARD'S "SILENCE CIRCLES" is a multi genre affair mixing free jazz with vicious black metal adorned with light synths. I love "SILENCE CIRCLES" segues from free jazz sax to sick metal provoking a soft loud dynamic. Clean vocals duet with black metal rasps as "SILENCE CIRCLES" hits a peak of mind melting, genre bending true art.

.WHITE WARD'S ."ECHOES IN ETERNITY" is an instrumental, free jazz track featuring saxophone, synths and assorted noises.

WHITE WARD'S "CRONUS" enters as an alternative rock track, accessible with clean vocals. At 1:25 WHITE WARD' up the ante and segue into pure black metal, both vicious and emotive at the same time.WHITE WARD simultaneously destroy and bring everything to the table including a sax solo and some vicious riffing.

The title track from WHITE WARD'S "FALSE LIGHT" kicks off with some free jazz before blasting away with speed and precision into some truly vicious and undeniably tight black metal. At 5:23, "FALSE LIGHT" takes an ambient jazz turn, emoting both sadness and sensuality. At 7:17 "FALSE LIGHT"  returns to blistering black metal combining blast beats with solid and melodic riffing.

Guest clean vocals adorn "FALSE LIGHT" emoting a melancholy feel as an an anthem of hard times.

WHITE WARD'S "FALSE LIGHT" closes with "DOWNFALL" a somber, samples spoken word track.

WHITE WARD have just outdone themselves. If you thought "LOVE EXCHANGE FAILURE" was groundbreaking you'll be sure to love "FALSE LIGHT".

WHITE WARD'S "FALSE LIGHT" seamlessly meld three or four different genres including jazz and post rock with  blistering black metal creating various moods via atmospheres into a cauldron of human emotions.

There are not enough superlatives to describe .WHITE WARD'S genre melding and face melting music. The guest clean vocalists are a nice touch on an awesome piece of ground breaking art as it gives credence to the genre melding WHITE WARD do so well.

WHITE WARD surprise the listener with that moment of genre melding as it as it happens in the blink of an eye.

Is perhaps WHITE WARD'S "FALSE LIGHT" the AOTY (ALBUM OF THE YEAR),  Maybe.

ITP V.022 would also like to express my heartbreak and sadness on the on the on going war between Russia and Ukraine and wish all Ukrainians life, love and safety.
