MTV: PARAMOUNT GLOBAL WILL SHUT DOWN REMAINING MTV MUSIC CHANNELS IN ALL TERRITORIES EXCEPT THE U.S.A.

 

 

 

 

 PARAMOUNT GLOBAL, the parent company of MTV will shut down all MTV channels in all territories except the U.S.A. by 12/31/2025.

The iconic brand's parent company, Paramount Global, has confirmed plans to shut down all remaining MTV music channels by December 31, 2025 In all Territories Except The US

MTV Music – The flagship music video destination

MTV 80s – Home to beloved retro hits and nostalgic favorites

MTV 90s – The ultimate throwback channel for alternative rock and pop classics

Club MTV – Dance music and electronic beats around the clock

MTV Live – Live performances and concert coverage

Will all be gone at the end of the year

What is shutting down

• MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live: will all stop broadcasting in the UK and other European markets at the end of 2025.

• The flagship MTV channel (MTV HD in the UK) will continue to broadcast.

Why is this happening

• The closures are a strategic business decision by parent company Paramount to reduce costs. 
  
  

Similar shutdowns are expected in other international markets, such as Australia, Poland, France, and Brazil. 

MTV channels in the US, including MTV, MTV2, MTV Live, and MTV Classic, are not affected by these changes. 

While the UK's MTV HD will continue, its programming will focus on reality shows, as it has for several years, and will not be music-focused. 

The move reflects the industry-wide shift from traditional linear television to online streaming platforms for music consumption. 

This is a continuation of a trend for MTV, which stopped airing music videos on its UK flagship channel in 2011. 

In a related move in 2023, MTV also shut down its news division, MTV News.
