FROM IVAR BJORNSON (ENSLAVED):

Grutle and I have contributed a song to Nynorsk kultursentrums project called "Mitt Språk – Min Song" (My Language - My Song); "Strie Draumar" (Troublesome Dreams) picks up a subject from both Norway's but also Grutle's personal history. How society dealt with mental health and the shame that was or still is attached to it.

Grutle comments; "When it comes to the text itself, it is very inspired by life here in western Norway, but in an era that despite the fact that there are only a few generations in time, appears to be very distant. It is difficult for us now, five decades into the oil age and the welfare state, to think about the life our grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents lived, in a relatively recent past. There were often poor conditions, hard work and very little help to get for those who could not close themselves to feeding themselves or their families. In addition, one must keep in mind that the society around here at that time was very marked by strict Lutheranism, and there were not many tricks one had to do before one ended up in disfavor with both the sheriff and the priest."
Nynorsk is one of three official languages (in order of appearance: Samisk, Nynorsk and Bokmål) - with roots all the way back to the first language spoken in historical times - and is, among other places in Norway, still spoken where Grutle and Ivar grew up.
