FROM DOOM METAL.COM:

NEWS - We've learnt this morning (European time) of the passing of Dave Sherman, aged 55, singer in Earthride and bass player in many Doom bands like Spirit Caravan, Bobby Liebling's Ram Family, The Obsessed, Weed Is Weed or Sourvein among many.
A native of Maryland, Dave was a fixture of the classic Maryland Doom scene and a generous man always kin to share a beer with fans or lend some help and advice to young musicians.
The scene will miss a man of great talent and even greater generosity.
The whole staff wishes our most sincere condoleances to his family and friends.

FROM WHILE HEAVEN WEPT:
Seldom am I ever at a loss for words...but yet another brother has left us prematurely and I'm in absolute shock. So many stories, so many stages...the antics...the legends. I'm going to miss you Dave G Sherman... all of WHW and myself join our brothers & sisters in the local scene and the larger Doom Metal community as a whole in mourning the loss of another friend and legend. You will never be forgotten brother... Tom

FROM THE GATES OF SLUMBER:

Dave was one of a kind.
I first met him in 98 or so, just after Shine had changed their name, I'd met up with Wayne and Sage of 66 Goat - a heavy duo at the time and flown out to NYC to roadie for them and Spirit Caravan; I met them in St. Mark's Place and my mind was blown. There were a lot of firsts that weekend. First time in NYC, met Merle Allin with Sherman, met Bobby Steele with Sherman, watched what 2 dimed SVT's can do to the celing of a rock club when the roof above the stage started to crumble (I believe this was the old Grog Shop in Cleveland). I was taking notes the whole time.
Sherman was an innately kind individual who I liked right away, (taking nothing from Gary and Wino, who were both awesome). I'd see him when we'd travel for shows and when Spirit Caravan played Indianapolis for the first time, or seeing Earthride at ShoD or Emissions in Youngstown: he always remembered me and asked what I was up to. And that meant a lot.
And when Gates of Slumber finally started going he was an early supporter and encouraged us and treated us like we deserved a seat at the table.
We toured the East and Mid-West with Earthride and later Europe, from Nottingham to Rome and all points in between, sleeping on the floor of The Old Angel in Nottingham, sleeping on the concrete at the port of Dover to just be able to stretch our legs out.
Some of my fondest memories have him in them.
His love of music and love of his friends was epic and he was so talented… . It's hard to believe another brother in arms is gone, but it seems to be the way we all go, huh? The good ones seem to go too early, but then some say our fates are written ahead of time: who knows? I'm sad that I'll never talk with him again, or listen to him tell stories, or watch him stir the caldron or ride his motorcycle. All on stage.
Rest in Peace, Sherman.
Motorbreath stallion: carry him through the night.
