ITP V.012: ONLY ONE PER COFFIN: R.I.P WHITNEY HOUSTON

Amy Winehouse's father accepting Amy's Grammy win comments on Whitney Houston, Etta James: "There's a beautiful girl band in heaven."

Pop diva Whitney Houston passed away in a Beverly Hills, LA hotel around 4pm PST. Known for her soaring gospel influenced vocals, Houston endured a rocky drug induced marriage to NEW EDITION and r and b vocalist BOBBY BROWN and has sold millions of albums worldwide. Known for power pop ballads ("I will always love you") and a genetic disposition to great, gospel influenced vox (Whitney's mom gospel/soul singer Sissy Houston), Whitney Houston's drug haze negatively impacted her career until rehab and a 2009 platinum selling come back release.

Whitney Houston returned to rehab as recently as 2011..

Whitney Houston's body was found in her hotel rooms bathtub, as her cause of death, while still be investigated is rumored to be a drowning, prescription Zanax, but no illegal drugs were found on the scene.

Whitney Houston's and Bobby Brown's daughter Bobbi Christinia, was hospitalized twice within the 24 hours of her moms death regarding anxiety, alcohol and prescription anxiety meds.

Whitney Houston's inspirational 1991 SUPER BOWL performance of the U.S. national anthem, while pre recorded and lip synced was timely as the U.S. was in the middle of the Persian Gulf war. Controversy surrounded the issue of Whitney Houston's lip synced/pre recorded performance of the U.S. National anthem as TV Network NBC mandated that all performers pre record their rendition of the National Anthem as Garth Brooks refused and Jon Bon Jovi stepped in.

Whitney Houston died on the eve of the U.S. GRAMMY AWARDS at 48.

UPDATE 5:18 AM EST: FROM DIGITAL SPY.COM:
Whitney Houston possibly drowned in the bathtub, early reports have indicated.

The singer passed away on Saturday (February 11) in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel, where she was preparing for Clive Davis's pre-Grammy gala in Los Angeles.

No illegal drugs have been found at the scene, but prescription drugs were discovered in the room, TMZ reports.

Houston's body has since been removed from the bathtub and taken for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Beverly Hills police officers, who are said to be still searching the room, found various pill bottles but no evidence that the star had been drinking alcohol.

Tributes have poured in since the news of Houston's death, with Mariah Carey saying she's "heartbroken and in tears".

ITP V.012 EDITORS NOTE:
It's been a very weird week. Regarding the SUPER BOWL "dead mic" policy (NBC), let Whitney have the mic, I'm sure she can pull off our National Anthem live. Houston's death on the eve of the U.S. Grammy's will cast a tragic, morbid shadow over the event, sure to be a Houston tribute considering the timing.

FROM ROLLING STONE:
While the autopsy results have not yet been released, reports are coming out that Whitney Houston may have drowned in her hotel bathtub.

TMZ is reporting that Houston was found in the tub with her face below the water’s surface. Sources said Houston’s hairdresser had gone to check on the singer after becoming concerned that she had been in the bathroom for more than an hour. The body’s position suggested that Houston slid down the back of the tub into the water.

One of Houston's bodyguards reportedly pulled Houston out of the tub and attempted CPR before the paramedics arrived. Houston was declared dead at 3:55 p.m.

There are reports that Houston was known to be taking Xanax and other prescription sedatives, which, combined with alcohol, may have caused her to lose consciousness in the bathtub.

- Bobby Brown and New Edition have released the following statement on the passing of Whitney Houston…

"We are absolutely shocked and saddened by the sudden and untimely death of our dear sister Whitney. As a group, we are extremely close; when one of us hurts, we all hurt.

As much as we are in pain right now, we will continue to draw strength from God, as we support and comfort our brother Bobby, their daughter Bobbi-Christina and Whitney's mother Cissy Houston. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the entire Brown-Houston family today and always."

As previously reported, Brown and New Edition have a concert tonight in Mississippi. Brown was fighting off crying fits, but he and the group were going to perform as planned.
“I would like to say, I love you Whitney,” Brown reportedly told attendees. “The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage.”

FROM MORBID ANGEL:Deeply saddened with the news of the death of Whitney Houston....RIP..!!

FROM ALL SHALL PERISH: RIP Whitney Houston.
FROM GEORGE TAKEI: RIP, Whitney Houston. We will always love you.

FROM ARETHA FRANKLIN:
"I just can't talk about it now. It's so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn't believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen. My heart goes out to Cissy (Houston's mother), her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby (Brown)."

FROM SEBASTIAN BACH (SKID ROW):
"This is hitting me hard. I used to sing ALL of Whitney Houston's songs all the time. I absolutely loved her voice. I practiced along to her songs countless times and her music affects me deeply.

"I cannot believe how temporary life is. How fragile music is. Everything you know, everything you hold dear can be ripped away at a moment's notice and you won't even see it coming.

"I always figured Whitney would record another record that would blow us all away. So sad that was not meant to be.

"48 years old? Ugh. It makes me sick. Such a loss.

"RIP, Whitney Houston.

"My condolences to my friend Bobby Brown and his children."

FROM BRET MICHAELS (POISON):
"My deepest condolences to Whitney Houston's family and friends.

"I first met Whitney when we were in Rome on tour. I couldn't sleep so I went down to the lobby. There she was sitting on the couch reading a book. Apparently she couldn't sleep either. We sat and hung out chatting for quite a while. She was awesome.

"Over the years, we ran into each other at several other events, the most memorable being when we were performing in Rio for the Hollywood Rocks festival. I happened to walk up to my room from the pool where a bunch of us had been sitting and saw the news about the Northridge earthquake. I remember telling her, the guys from AEROSMITH and others about the news...

"Again... what a great person with a great voice and amazing talent. She will be missed."

FROM CHERIE CURRIE (RUNAWAYS):
I am truly saddened this morning upon hearing of Whitney Houston's death. Her song 'The Greatest Love Of All' was so inspiring for me and many others in the mid-80s when we were battling our demons. It gave us strength and perspective. I loved her. My sadness gives way to anger because I know what caused her death. It almost took mine back then, but by the grace of God I'm still here. I would never have believed that the woman that gave so many hope with that voice and songs would lose the fight she helped so many to win.

"RIP, Whitney.

"What a talent. What a tragedy. You will be sorely missed.
