ITP V.012: RE RATE/BLAST BACK (2009)

ITP V.012 RE RATE/BLASTBACK is a re rating of under rated or over rated ITP METAL REVIEWS.
There is NO GUARANTEE that every CD that ITP has reviewed will get a re rating.
Eventually, depending upon TIME and circumstances, ITP's author will EDIT ITP V.09 and ITP V.010 reviews regarding paragraph spacing and layout, hey that's just me, I like things double spaced.

EDITORS NOTE: I will post CD covers later.

ITP V.09: RE RATE: A great year for for up coming death metal bands (ULCERATE, PORTAL, AUGURY) as the many veteran bands unleashed "return to form" releases (NILE). Ironically, 2009 was such an awesome year for death metal, the new comers upstaged everyone. Veteran extreme metal bands unleashed quality releases and hardly made (ITP's) 2009 top 10. Funeral doom and drone exceeded expectations with a cross over to post metal (ESOTERIC, AHAB) as HALLOWED BUTCHERY experimented with shoe gaze expanding dooms scope with awesome talent and brilliant musical ideas. SUNN O))) expanded ambient drone into a new musical scope from ambient spoken word to free form jazz, all in the blink of eye. If any underrated extreme metal genre's influence was felt, doom in all of her sub genres spawned the prozac crawl, agonized, psychotic scream of DSBM,  a bastard step child of black metal and funeral doom, (XASTHUR, LIFELOVER) rendering veteran black metal bands (DARK FUNERAL) irrelevant.

UNDERRATED:
SUNN O))): MONOLITHS AND DIMENSIONS:http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2009/10/itp-review-sunn-o-monoliths-and.html

SUNN O))) are a duo that illicit a love hate relationship with music fans as many of the bands detractors consider them incohesive noise. Yes, either you LOVE or HATE SUNN O ))) and there is NO inbetween NOR casual listeners. ATILLA's (MAYHEM) menacing, and let's face it, sexy spoken word melded with ambient drone and wondrous horn arrangements broke multi genre musical boundaries in a dark beauty.
YES, this is absolutely stunning music.

GOROD: PROCESS OF A NEW DECLINE: http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2009/06/itp-review-gorod-process-of-new-decline.html
French technical death metal with guttural vocals, tenacious grooves, memorable riffs, progressive songwriting, and arthritis inducing technical muscianship. GORODS first three releases are stuck in my consciousnesses for a tech/death metal orgasm. What was I thinking when I underrated GOROD?

SLAYER: WORLD PAINTED RED: http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2009/11/itp-review-slayer-world-painted-blood.html

Of course, I absolutely ADORE SLAYER, and while "WORLD PAINTED RED" isn't my fave SLAYER release, it's SLAYER because spreading a little hate worldwide is a virtue. However, compared to the first three SLAYER classics and "GOD HATES US ALL", SLAYER's "WORLD PAINTED RED" is still lacking that re play value, the rating won't go up much.

AHAB: THE DIVINITY OF OCEANS: http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2009/07/itp-review-ahab-divinity-of-oceans.html

Ahoy, the wonders of the Sea beckon, and I love AHAB's clean and death vocals..
I feel that I'm floating on the Sea and yes, the boat sways, looking for Whale and fish, as we are doomed in these waters in a constant journey for land. I will choose the Sea. All aboard, as "Yet Another Raft of The Medusa (Pollard's Weakness)"=a classic tune from a criminally underrated band.

ESOTERIC: THE MANIACAL VALE: http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2009/05/itp-review-esoteric-maniacal-vale.html

Mesmerizing, psychedelic doom, ungodly sound textures with quality production. ESOTERIC's "The Maniacal Vale"'s SONGWRITING succeeds where many funeral doom bands fail, combining variety, with repetitive riffing and psychedelic atmospheres, this release is intoxicating.

OVERRATED:

DARK FUNERAL: ANGELUS EXURO PRO ETERNUS
http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2010/01/itp-review-dark-funeral-angelus-exuro.html

Not at all a bad effort from DARK FUNERAL as Sweden's Kings of black metal experimental with a variety of mid paced melo/black metal tunes. However, GORATH's (a release that ITP should have but didn't review) interesting twist on melo/black metal was far more insightful.
