FROM ROADBURN 2014 PROMOTERS:
Roadburn favorites @ YOB will be making a highly anticipated return appearance in 2014, playing two crushing sets of their unique doom. They will play The Great Cessation for their album set on Saturday, April 12th, and headlining the Afterburner on Sunday, April 13th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
Yob has been a trailblazer in modern doom by incorporating elements of prog, stoner, space rock and sludge to create a mesmerizing blend of heaviness that they weave into epic masterpieces. They excel at creating labyrinthine songs that never seem to lose their momentum through multiple changes. We are thrilled to bring Portland, Oregon’s finest to Roadburn in 2014, and especially honored that they will be playing exclusive shows.
Yob founder Mike Scheidt says, “Coming back to Roadburn for a third time….to play our fifth and sixth sets total at this festival…. it is difficult to come up with words to adequately express our feelings. We have made it very clear how much we love the spirit of the Roadburn Festival. It is an unparallelled experience encompassing everything we embrace as both artists and fans. We will bring what we hope to be the best we have ever done in both of our sets of music. Playing The Great Cessation live in entirety will be a YOB first. For our second set, we will perform songs covering our entire discography, including something new as well. To be able to play, to be in attendance as fans, and to once again walk the streets of Tilburg and live in the soul that is Roadburn is something we are very grateful for. April 2014 is too far away.”
Underground favourites Graves at Sea will bring their crushing brand of slow, sluggish despair to Roadburn Festival 2014, laying waste to all before them.
Formed in 2002 in Phoenix, AZ but now mostly based in Portland OR, Graves at Sea gained much praise for their nasty, bulldozing, blackened sludgecore, putting them squarely in the camp of heavy as hell, feedbacking riff worshippers Khanate, Burning Witch or Corrupted, only to call it quits in 2007.
After a 4 year hiatus the band came back with a vengeance in 2012, cranking out their hateful riffage and snarling, distorted yet primal vokills as fiercely as ever. Bask in Graves at Sea‘s dismal atmosphere on Thursday, April 10th at Het Patronaat in Tilburg, The Netherlands, as their gut wrenching sickness will be palpable. Don’t let them grind you down though!
From deep in the earth you can feel massive vibrations… soon they become audible — huge distant riffs growing louder and turning into a sonic assault with a familiar feel and groove. Suddenly you realize… NOLA is in the house! Roadburn 2014 welcomes legendary New Orleans riffmasters Crowbar Band to the 013 venue main stage on Thursday, April 10th.
With ties to Down, Eyehategod, Acid Bath and Pantera, Crowbar will definitely provide Roadburners with a perfect cure for their New Orleans metal jones in 2014.
Led by founder Kirk Windstein (also a member of doom legends Down), Crowbar have been forerunners in sludge metal since 1991. Their last album, Sever The Wicked Hand, shows the band is still going strong as they expertly run through a number of different tempos in tight, well-crafted songs while dropping riff after head banging riff.
The vocal approach on Sever offers up quite a bit of variety as well, and the record stands as one of the most overlooked from 2011. Along with their classic records like Crowbar, Time Heals Nothing and Obedience Through Suffering, they will have an enormous amount of great material to draw from. Prepare for a headbanging frenzy!
Led by @ T-Roy Medlin, SOURVEIN have been one of America’s premier, uncompromising, doomed sludge-acts for the past twenty years, and we’re stoked to announce the band’s return to Roadburn Festival 2014 on Thursday, April 10th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
Over these troubled decades, Sourvein have always excelled at delivering damaged, blackened misery and pulverizing heaviness, thriving on brutal riffmongering and T-Roy’s vicious vokills, which prove to be a much darker and scarier proposition than most fellow dope-lope heavies.
Sourvein keep things simultaneously dirty but also pure and simple – there’s nothing flashy about the band. T-Roy‘s raw, fucked-up, gritty emotions drag you down into a nasty swamp of sickened sludge, leaving you ready to die or amped up to kill and escape.
Either way, Sourvein will be ratcheting up the sheer brutality of their relentless sludge by playing all three of the band’s much acclaimed EP’s, Emerald Vulture, Ghetto Angel and Imperial Bastard, in their entirety exclusively at Roadburn Festival 2014.
“We’re beyond excited to return to the mighty Roadburn Festival on our 20th anniversary tour” says T-Roy, “and this year we have a very special set prepared just for the Roadburn crowd. We will be doing our trilogy” live, all 3 EP’s back to back and some songs off the first record that we’ve never done live… So we really look forward to this being an awesome time. See you at Roadburn 2014.”

Roadburn 2014 just got a whole lot heavier. We’re pleased to announce that Vancouver’s Anciients will play on Thursday,April 10th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Released last April, Anciients debut full-length Heart of Oak onSeason of Mist has received much fanfare and critical acclaim.
Uniquely heavy moments lead to lush guitar passages, harsh and clean vocals bring equally entrancing elements of light and shade, Heart of Oak is an expansive metal album that will put Anciients at the top of many ‘best newcomers of 2013′ lists. Heart of Oak is a stunning start of Anciients‘ career. We’re looking forward to see the band showcase the best that avant-metal has to offer at one of their very first European shows.
Roadburn Festival 2014 will run for four days from Thursday, April 10th to Sunday, April 13th, 2014 at the 013 venue inTilburg, The Netherlands.
