Originally from Chicago, Illinois (later TEXAS and now Los Angeles, California) MINISTRY are trendsetters in the industrial metal genre.
MINISTRY are legends for a reason. As the band sought retirement early last decade, front man, vocalist AL JOURGENSEN pulled the band together as he has alot more to say in these uncertain times.
Here ITP V.021 has MINISTRY'S new release "MORAL HYGIENE" as we all could use some these days.
MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" kicks off with "ALERT LEVEL" opens with a sample "How concerned are you?". A totally danceable beat melds well with a definitive melodic guitar riff. "This is immoral, there's no one to blame but our selves" screams AL JOURGENSEN. "ALERT LEVEL" continues with a sample of young environmentalist GRETA THUNBERG talking about climate change. Interesting.
MINISTRY"S "GOOD TROUBLE" is rocking rager and node to those who protest police brutality and misconduct. as JOURGENSEN sings you feel defeated, you feel oppressed..Maybe it's needed to start the unrest." Stop the unrest, the world is a mess". "GOOD TROUBLE" continues with samples of "What is we say justice, "Fuck the Police" in solidarity of the "BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTESTS". MINISTRY"S "GOOD TROUBLE" ends with JOURGENSEN screaming "Get the party started get the fascists out!".
MINISTRY"S "SABOTAGE IS SEX" is a heavier (metal) track with guest vocals from JELLO BIAFRIA (formally of THE DEAD KENNEDY'S) as he sings "It's open season on the oppressed.".
"Enjoy the plague, it might be your last", spews. JELLO BIAFRIA as lyrically he touches on anything from police brutality to the COVID19 pandemic.
MINISTRY"S "DISINFORMATION" melts faces with a cauldron of news samples about internet disinformation, a pandemic in it self and the rise of these groups on the web. Former U.S. president DONALD TRUMP is sampled with his "fake news" quote. Also, guitars are more prominent on "DISINFORMATION" with some catchy hard rock riffs and a solo.
MINISTRY"S "SEARCH AND DESTROY is a rager of a STOOGES cover.
MINISTRY"S "BELIEVE ME"is an alternative rocker with political samples and lyrical contempt for cult, corrrupt politicians.
MINISTRY"S "BROKEN SYSTEM" enters with light Sitar and a twangy guitar riff . Lyrically . JOURGENSEN sings about the state of the world, specifically the environment:"We aint go no air to breathe, no water to drink, no place to take shelter, the whole world's on the brink"
"I don't need to tell you how dire things are now", JOURGENSEN spews. "We're running out of time to save our planet".
MINISTRY"S "WE SHALL RESIST" is an electronic track with samples and AL JOURGENSEN's softly sung vocals.AL JOURGENSEN'S tackles the elephant in American culture, conspiracy theorists in his lyrical genius. "He is of the ancient warning and visions. The strokes of his pen reveal who they truly are. And in a rush of greed and madness, conspiratorists and misfits take control. Fascists". .
MINISTRY"S "DEATH TOLL" is an industrial track with news samples reading off the COVID19 death tolls. Anything from evangelists preachers to TV reporters are sampled.
MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" closes with . "TV SONG #6 (RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER MIX)" a speed metal extension of TV II from "KEOAAHEO". . TV SONG #6 is brutal as fuck with samples of former U.S. President DONALD TRUMP with blastbeats and other political and hilarious samples.
MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" is the bands best, and most relevant release in years.Lyrically "MORAL HYGIENE" is extension of "AMERIKKKANT".
MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" shows front man/vocalist AL JOURGENSEN' is fine form tackling social, political issues such as police brutality, climate change, fascism, hypocritical politicians and conspiracy theorists.
It seems the more the world falls of its axis, the more MINISTRY document, specifically American culture.
Musically, MINISTRY'S "MORAL HYGIENE" is a throwback to the bands 90's out put, ripe and full of political samples, a throwback to 80's and 90's industrial.
. MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" features a variety of material, from alternative hard rock, industrial, electronica to extreme metal.
Missing in the MINISTRY camp is the shred of the late (guitarist) MIKE SCACCIA and SIN QUIRIN as the latter recently left the band.
While musically MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" is no "KEOAAHEO", AL JOURGENSEN has a lot to say about social justice, as this is the bands most diverse release to date.
. MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" is more than a mirror to the U.S. social political issues, but a confrontation against hypocrisy and delusional conspiracy theories.
MINISTRY"S "MORAL HYGIENE" is a great weapon against social political ills, corruption and yes the bands best release in years. .
