FROM KITAMA (PETE SEEGER's GRANDSON):
Kitama here, Pete & Toshi Seeger's grandson.
If there is a heaven - Grandpa (Pete) and Lee Hays were there last night welcoming Ronnie Gilbert in with open arms. They probably sang all through the night together. Of all the people my Grandpa knew and worked with I always felt that Ronnie Gilbert shared my Grandpa's vision of unwavering activism and took on new issues as she got older as times called for them in a way that very few others did.
Just as Grandpa took on the environmental movement, she became a champion in the women's rights movement. They saw how all movements are connected and how you cannot be a champion of one without being a supporter of another.
The NYT wrote a great obit on Ronnie. But, before reading that, I'd
like you to take a look at this concert from 1980 where the Weavers had a
reunion concert at Carnegie Hall. FYI, Ronnie was a founding member of
The Weavers with Grandpa, Fred Hellerman and Lee Hays.
Ronnie Gilbert will be missed and my heart goes out to her family.

FROM ARLO GUTHERIE:
June 7, 2015 - Washington, MA - The Farm
Just A Personal Update
It's finally really almost summer. I'm home. The lilacs have passed their season and we're catching up on all the work we've postponed while we were on the road. Last night I attended a dance recital where a couple of my grandkids were performing on stage, and knew my wife Jackie and my mom (both gone now), were somewhere just out of sight enjoying that legacy.

Ronnie Gilbert also
just passed away the other day - What a great and talented gal who I've
known pretty much all my life. She was one fourth of The Weavers, which
in and of itself would have qualified her with a badge of courage, but
she also continued throughout her life to stand as a beacon for anyone
hoping to make the world a little more equal and normal for those too
often told to stay on the fringes of society. I adored her. My old
buddy, and first producer, Fred Hellerman is the last of The Weavers
still standing. My heart goes out to him and his family as well as
Ronnie's own circle of friends and family.
Meanwhile, Tao & La Seeger and their new little one are visiting with us - So the larger family continues to interact through the generations. For those reading this not familiar with all these people - It's too complicated to explain in a short note. Just know I'm thrilled and honored to have known everyone in our extended family of friends and musicians, and even more, blessed that real friendships continue through many generations.
I'm off on a short trip south this afternoon - Things to do. But, they've been paving the main road down the hill from us here at The Farm, so I'll be back ASAP because my bike is running great and nothing makes it happier than a newly paved road through the winding hill country.
That's the update from The Farm... adg
FROM BILLY BRAGG:
Been a really bad week for American folk music with the deaths of Ronnie Gilbert of the Weavers, Guy Carawan of the Highlander School and the great Appalachian singer Jean Ritchie. Not many from that pre-60s generation left now.
