The Chance, Poughkeepsie, NY (STILL) for sale

THE CHANCE THEATER, Poughkeepsie, NY is confirmed for sale, stated owner FRANK PALLET via the TIMES HERALD RECORD.

 FROM THE CHANCE MYSPACE:
Vandalizing your local venues is just not cool!

When coming to The Chance please respect our property and our cause.

We strive to put on the best shows around for YOU!

We strive to keep a safe and clean environment for YOU!

We do not want our patrons to be exposed to vulgar and unnecessary graffiti in our complex!

We ESPECIALLY do not appreciate our local bands coming in here, playing and then tagging up our walls with self-promotion.

We provide a stage, microphones, websites and flyer's for that.
It is completely unnecessary and unacceptable for any band to disrespect our facility in that way
From now on, any band name, logo etc, that is found tagged on our property, we will contact that band and have the members or a representative of the group come in and scrub the wording pertaining to the act off of the walls.

If this is not adhered to, we will simply no longer book your act.

Thanks for your cooperation and continued support!!!

FROM THE TIMES HERALD RECORD:
If the Chance is your favorite live-music venue, it likely still will be for a long time to come.
Don't buy into everything you hear or read.
It's true, the Chance Entertainment Complex in Poughkeepsie is for sale. But then, it has been for five years.
"It's something that we've been entertaining for a few years now. It's not front-page news," said co-owner Frank Pallet in response to a story that appeared on the front page of the Poughkeepsie Journal yesterday. "If we sell it, we sell it; if we don't, we'll keep going. It's not really a big deal."
Pallet has listed the complex — which includes the Chance Theater, the Loft and a club previously called Club Crannell — from time to time over the past five years and said he'd entertain the right offer. But, if the right offer doesn't come along, he'll continue as he has been for 14 years.

Tom G. Fischer leaves CELTIC FROST

TOM G. FISCHER (TOM WARRIOR) has quit legendary black metal warriors CELTIC FROST after the bands 2005-2007 re-union.

CELTIC FROST unleashed "Monotheist" 5/29/2006 via CENTURY MEDIA.

FROM TOM G. FISCHER:
"I am devastated beyond description, and I am infinitely disappointed. As the one member of CELTIC FROST who is exposed most dramatically to the feedback by our audiences and the media, I feel troubled and humiliated about being unable to honor the enormous goodwill extended to CELTIC FROST during the past few years and meet the justified expectations of our fans.

"I have always seen the 'Monotheist' album as a mere beginning, and a tame one at that. My mind and spirit are full of energy, creativity, and ideas. CELTIC FROST had become the unreserved focus of my life for the second time.I was looking forward immeasurably to working on the next CELTIC FROST album. To me, it needed to be darker, heavier, and more experimental than 'Monotheist'.

"And yet, CELTIC FROST consisted of three individuals, and I was only one of them. In the end I had to concede to myself that there was no other option.

"My friendship with and respect for Martin Eric Ain [bass] remain unaffected. Moreover, I am in the process of assessing my options to eventually complete, record, and release some of the ideas I originally created for CELTIC FROST and the planned next album in the course of the past few years, and to take our distinctive music out on the road again.

"There is no way back."

"It was not my departure from CELTIC FROST which caused the group's inexorable demise. It was the group's inexorable demise which caused my departure.

"CELTIC FROST's approach was unlike any other I have encountered in my many years in the music industry.Regardless of whether one revered or detested CELTIC FROST, this was a deeply unique group. And while there were unquestionably some who did detest CELTIC FROST, it seemed impossible for them to manifest any criticism beyond petty personal attacks or preposterous conjecture typically rooted in their own distorted perception rather than in the group's actual reality. In fact, this might also be true for some of us within the group itself.

"In its second incarnation, CELTIC FROST was far more unassailable than in its first. It could only be destroyed from within. And this, we accomplished to perfection.

"Leaving the project which was the focus of most of my existence, the group that was the content of my life, was not a decision I took hastily or lightly. On the contrary, it was, and still is, extremely difficult and almost unbearably painful. My departure was a consequence of the personal environment prevailing within the group for some five years, and particularly since CELTIC FROST stepped back into the limelight in May 2006. I would not have taken this step if there had been a glimpse of another option. But there wasn't; the damage incurred had finally become irreversible.

"For the past seven and a half years, CELTIC FROST was for the second time synonymous with my life, my energy, my passion, my vision, and my creativity. So much so, that I was frequently berated by those around me for the intensity of my identification with the band. But CELTIC FROST was, of course, not just art and creativity — it was also an assemblage of very distinctive and extremely volatile human characters. This was the group's very propellant and, ultimately, its ruin. The thought that this great, extraordinary band no longer exists, that it had to disintegrate due to what in effect constituted human complacency, is utterly insufferable.

"It is also completely unbefitting the unique legacy of CELTIC FROST.

"It has become simply impossible to reply to the uncounted phone calls and mails I have received since the news of my departure broke. To learn that CELTIC FROST has come to mean so much to so many is extremely moving. At the same time, it is also dreadful to know how disappointed all those are who loved the band. This also includes our friends and mentors, some of whom tried to intervene together with me until the last minute (and, in some cases, past it) to prevent the worst from happening.Carmen and HR Giger, for example, Ravn of 1349, or the group's brilliant manager, Antje Lange.

"Moreover, it is nearly impossible to justify the course of events in the face of those who worked so hard to enable the disinterment and second rise of CELTIC FROST: our live guitarists V Santura and Anders Odden, our webmasters, our crew, and the staff of our concert agency, Twisted Talent, and of our record company partners, Century Media.

"I am attempting to collect my thoughts right now, which is still incredibly difficult.Artistically, I did not want to leave CELTIC FROST at all; I have never been happier with the music and creativity in the band. I saw 'Monotheist' as only the first of hopefully several distinctive albums by this group.I thus plan on continuing exactly in the artistic vein of CELTIC FROST.I had very a distinct vision of what the next two CELTIC FROST albums might consist of, and I intend to eventually fulfill this vision and complete these albums with a new group.I would also like to continue touring and perform the music I have written in CELTIC FROST over the years for audiences all across the globe.

"In closing, at long last, I am also deeply indebted to my friend Wrath of AVERSE SEFIRA for his forceful epitaph in honor of CELTIC FROST, which stands representatively for the many comments I have received.

FROM CELTIC FROST:
"CELTIC FROST singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Fischer has left CELTIC FROST due to the irresolvable, severe erosion of the personal basis so urgently required to collaborate within a band so unique, volatile, and ambitious."

Mexican metal heads clash with emos or hardcore kids vs emos

"Every time and emo kid cries a Viking comes from the heavens and dismembers him"-
Listening to friends make fun of emos: Hey scenesters, get of our shows. This is one of  last months funniest or weirdest articles on Blabbermouth.net. BTW, MEXICO, South and Central America, and Tawain believe it or not have a HUGE death and black metal scene as the separation of church vs. state is an even more substantial issue in those nations, there fore those (extreme) genres are having more of an impact.  So look out emos and floor punching hardcore kids. So don't wear those Avenged Sevenfold shirts to the Mexican mall, don't wear those girls pants young men, and leave the eye liner to yer girlfriends.. Even the hardcore kids hate emo, and they are hated by death and black metal fans.
However, the homophobic rationalization of the attacks against emo kids has us all annoyed and worried. A friend of mine once said that up until the 70's, it was pretty much common for Mexican men to beat and kill random women with a low misdemeanor penalty. Later the civil rights movement from the USA finally had an effect on Mexico. Many Mexican men still think of woman as their personal property, as sexism is one of the most negative aspects of the other wise beautiful Mexican culture. So it's ok to attack emo kids because they look like "homos" and British Mods? Not in my country. Mexico is a catholic nation, wich such homophobic propaganda being shoveddown these kids throats via their "church", it's no wonder some kids were attacked..Emos, (although awful music, fashion and culture) with it's gender/ bender fashion statement are somehow associated with being "gay". .                                                          Again, some of these kids whom attacked the emos are more confused about religion and sexuality then a feather in a wirlwind. Religion, rebel by starting your own anti religious metal band, NOT by attacking some kids.

I've always been against the idea of cruelty to someone simply because they are different in look, idealism and theory..I'll stick to that theory, and practice it, to each their own and tolerance. However,  from my experiences locally, most of those emo, alternative, rap and hardcore kids are the ones starting the shit, and destroying their regional scene. Emo isn't a different subculture, it's just stupid, white, middle class, wanna be goths, that upgraded their culture from nu metal, rock, to emo and poppier "music". Suketh. Most of the original wave of emo bands have sold out to pop or pop/punk culture.
This whole drama reminds me of the book and movie "The Outsiders" but these emo kids are not nearly that poor. Chances are, the emos will be "sad" enough to destroy themselves, why bother destroying them?
In reality, these mob attacks on emos in MEXICO are probably "scene rivalries" that should end RIGHT NOW, before all music scenes south of the border get shut down. The attacks on emos in MEXICO were blamed on metal heads, but if you read the article
it was other punks. Hardcore kids vs. emos?..More likely..Macho, floor punching, working class bullies vs. awfully shallow, alienated, middle class kids, both equally obnoxious. Both HATED by metal heads and rational people.
And..Please don't immigrate here or bring more Mex-EMOS or assholes of any music culture to the USA.I honestly don't care what happens on either side in Mexico, but when us metal heads say fuck off:...:Remembers the Norwegian black metal scene via the 90's: .To both emos, other punks and whomever attacked those emos: Take your mall core, intolerance and get fucked.
Support what you like, instead of bash what you hate..Support extreme metal..
BTW, one of the "emo" kids (in the newspaper photo) with his emo haircut is wearing a Brujeria t-shirt. Brujeria are a Mexican death metal band featuring ex members of Fear  Factory, Napalm Death ect. So who says Mexicans don't have diverse taste in music? It's not about what you wear.
Friend to ME: "Can we throw out all emos, hardcore kids, and Retards Attempting Poetry people". ME: "Unfortunately it's not do able"..Maybe they'll stop them at the border".

In other extreme metal "news":

Catholicon decides to call it quits after 15 years

from www. 666slooflirpa. org

due to changes in the religious outlook of a few members in the band, Catholicon have decided to call it quits after 15 years. Catholicon was one of the pioneers of the "USBM" scene and influenced many of the young bands in the scene today. they still plan to finish "of ages past" which they are currently recording, but it will take more of a born again christian stance in the lyrics instead of the usual blasphemous lyrical content.the album should be released by years end . none of the band members could be reached for comment . 4/1/08 (ahaha)
( Joke,? Dunno. ) FROM SMNNEWS.COM'S MYSPACE 3/31/08: ..If you use our site regularly, you may have heard about the RIAAs recent attempts to intimidate us into deleting content that isnt even hosted on our site to begin with, and to try and scare us into turning over the user information of people they think broke some law by sharing links to music on our site. This isnt the first time we’ve been threatened by forces in the music industry desperate to maintain their stranglehold on the scene as they see their relevantness slipping away. Due to these threats, we’ve been forced to shut down part of our site as we sort through and remove the content in question (but I guess it’s okay for Google to link to these things?). However, we remain dedicated to the privacy of our users and will fight their requests to turn over the account information of the members they singled out.
