ITP V.010 REVIEW: IMMOLATION: MAJESTY AND DECAY:
http://spak-individualthoughtpatterns.blogspot.com/2010/04/itp-review-immolation-majesty-and-decay.html

IMMOLATION are a legendary New York Death Metal (NYDM) band with an extensive career of raising the bar for death metal featuring anti Christian lyrical themes, brutal
insightful riffing, awesome blast beat drumming and menacing growled vocals. IMMOLATION, an institution in the death metal genre, have been flying the flag of extremity for over 25 years expanding the bands fan base into a new generation of extreme metal fans.

SCION MUSIC FESTS (free music festivals promoted by SCION car company featuring many veteran and rising extreme metal bands) have become quite popular. Record label SCION A/V have given many artists (of various genres) an opportunity to release musically transitional or experimental EP's on their label as artists opt for an outlet for quality material outside the confines of their primary record deal. SCION A/V's metal department have released awesome EP's from ENSLAVED, WORMROT, MAUGRUDERGRIND and now IMMOLATION.

Here at ITP V.011 we have IMMOLATION's five song EP "Providence" unleashed as a FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD via SCION/AV this month.

IMMOLATION's "Providence" kicks off with the track "What They Bring". IMMOLATION bring all of the typical IMMOLATION ingredients to the table for some tasty death metal brutality: Awesome blast beat drumming via Steve Shalaty, excellent and very catchy riffing via Robery Vigna, and Ross Dolan's typical growls as IMMOLATION create a dark atmosphere of an unholy terror of dissonant intensity. IMMOLATION's "What They Bring" evokes breakdowns with pinch harmonics squeals, tight well played thrash as the riffs are very prevalent and catchy.

IMMOLATION's "Illumination" kicks off with classical/horror inspired piano chords, a progressive approach as the tune blasts off into a dark oblivion of unholy brutality as by now you should have a lighter to your bible.

IMMOLATION's "Still Lost" evokes prominent, grind infused riffing with brutal as FVCK, simple and catchy breakdowns. You'll have to peel your self off the floor in the pit.

The title track of "Providence" evoke mid paced, doomy textures combining good songwriting with quality (pinch harmonic) riff, time changes and tight drumming via Steve Shalaty.

IMMOLATION's "Providence" (EP) closes with the track "Swallow The Fear" as the track kicks off with a good primary riff as that compositions potential is ruined with bizarre, over used pinch harmonics and prog rock riffing. However, "Swallow The Fear" picks up momentum (3:02) with a good quality Robert Vigna solo into the unholy blast land of brutality and from there..arrrg, (bibles ripped in half)..One page at a time, bibles...DE-STROYED....

IMMOLATION's "Providence" (EP) is a quality release featuring very good and clean production via Paul Orofino (MILLBROOK STUDIOS, Millbrook, New York)..IMMOLATION retain the bands dark, unholy atmosphere combining brutality, excellent musicianship with catchy, prominent riffing.

Perhaps IMMOLATION's "Providence" overuses "pinch harmonics squeals" as some may complain those riffs reek of "nu metal". Arguably, IMMOLATION's "Providence" balances good quality songwriting with a musical progression of dissonant and devastating brutality.

IMMOLATION's "Providence" is a quality, transitional holdover until the bands next (full length) release, and from the sound of this EP, I can hardly wait until the bands next brutal offering.
