Founded in 2002 at a EARTH PLUS event by guitarist Nathan Weaver and Aaron Weaver, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are an Olympia, Washington based atmospheric black metal duo with ECO friendly/Earth First lyrical themes. Dabbling in shoegazer atmospherics, folk, crust and 90's black metal misanthropic, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM enchant listeners with tales of the scenic North West (USA) forests.
Here we as ITP V.011 has the latest release from WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM "CELESTIAL LINEAGE".
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "CELESTIAL LINEAGE" kicks off with the track "Thuja Magus Imperium". Featuring the ominous sound of church bells and awesome female Gregorian chants,"Thuja Magus Imperium" slowly enters a dark realm of ambiance, beauty and epic black metal majesty. "Thuja Magus Imperium" evokes a dark beautiful segue of melodic blackened doom featuring female ethereal vocals as Nathan Weaver's black metal rasps emote images of dew scented sunsets in the North Western forests.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM "Permanent Changes in Consciousness" is a 1:54 instrumental track of desolate sounds capes, fire crackling, swords sharpened, the sounds of work ethic of the great outdoors.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "Subterranean Initiation" is pure minimalistic necro black metal with quality blast beats, evoking epic atmospheres. "Subterranean Initiation"'s floor drops at 4:10 for an ambient/crust/noise jam out segueing perfectly for an epic win of an ambient, black metal closing.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "Rainbow Illness", an instrumental track, evoking an ambient soundtrack to a wondrous hike up the most scenic mountain range, as the track closes with bird song. As you wipe the sleep from your eyes, one can imagine waking up in the woods to the sound of birds chirping as the sun rises.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "Woodland Cathedral" creeps in at a funeral doom, snails pace, sparse, ambient chords, and absolutely astonishing female Gregorian, chanted vocals. I can imagine listening to this track at sunset or sunrise to mark a wondrous journey.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "Astral Blood" is quality epic, necro black metal, performed tight and with conviction. "Astral Blood" (4:00) morphs into an acoustic lullaby, epic in composition, transition and execution before a mid paced interlude builds tension into the most darkest forests of a necro black metal hellride.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "CELESTIAL LINEAGE" closes with "Prayer of Transformation" a ten some odd minute epic opus crawling in slowly, with each chord pronounced with conviction and backed with complimentary keyboards. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "Prayer of Transformation"'s blackened funeral doom dirge segues into a sparse, isolated acoustic interlude, slowly and cohesively closing the season as howling winds echo through the nightfall.
In a genre littered with clones of generic lyrical themes, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are a unique black metal project, refreshing in the projects experiment with desolate atmospheres, and a dynamic of ambient textures. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's extended compositions cohesively meld black metal angst with a passionate sound scape for the beauty of nature.
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "CELESTIAL LINEAGE" is a wondrous epic with well placed interludes, harps, and the awesome addition of Jessica Kenny's clean ethereal vocals, as "CELESTIAL LINEAGE" really is the ultimate beauty and darkness.
As Autumn leaves fall, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are the soundtrack to the beauty of your natural landscape, to be conserved, and respected. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's "CELESTIAL LINEAGE", is the ultimate under dog contender for the best release of 2011.
